Chapter 105: Protecting Astin from invasion [3]
Aurelia's POV.
Aurelia is fighting against Oswald, dragging the fight through the city, moving through the streets while swinging wildly. Her new drake is following close,
"Stand down, boy!" She screams at her new drake. "Mommy has this!"
With a wicked smile, chilling to the sight, she steps forward and attacks the general with a loud hit when the hilt of her scythe hits the sword Oswald is wielding.
The blade of her weapon almost reaches his face, but he moves it in the last second, only cutting through the fabric of the hood and some of his hair, revealing his face and confirming it is him.
"Tsk." He clicks his tongue and jumps back, creating distance. "To think they are willing the safety of this town to a brute like you!"
"As if you care about the safety of the people that live here!" She answers and goes again for another swing.
Aurelia's vicious attacks with her scythe get deflected by Oswald's precise faints and parrys. A schythe like Aurelia's has the advantage of being able to pass through defenses. Every time she hits, she makes it so the tip of the blade is pointing directly at her objective. But he is capable of keeping his center of mass and whole body out of the danger zone. No matter how hard Aurelia hits, the shaft of her weapon hits the blade with a clank and Oswald comes out unfazed and without feeling the hit.
"No grace to fight... What a disgrace!" He claims when he blocks another attack.
A light beams from him and takes a step forward. A swift movement with his sword and precise footwork, he takes a swing.
Assaulted by several cuts that come out of the air, Aurelia fails to defend from the counter skill Oswald just used on her, taking a chunk of her HP.
"Shit!" she screams in pain before jumping back.
"Grrrooooowwll!" The drake goes when he sees he managed to get the first hit in the encounter.
"He... You are better than I imagined." She smirks. "To think someone as strong as you would be cowering behind all those losers we had to deal with, coward."
"And you are a brute with no finesse... I am not letting this town be protected by Russell and the mess you and your group are in!"
"Huh? We are the mess? You are the one that has been getting people killed and bringing monsters!"
"Your brain could barely understand what I am trying to do... I have been preparing for this day for years, and I will not allow a brute like you to ruin what I have been building!"
Aurelia was already taking a big leap toward him before he finished the sentence, swinging her weapon with precision. Then, with no beat lost, she uses [Inferno] directly on him.
--------------------
There are other monsters running around town, not only the big one we just fought. Lisa is staying close to me while I dispatch every small beast in my way. Goblins, wolves... They are all low level enemies that would be hard for normal people that have never trained any skill. Soldiers are capable of advancing through them, killing with ease the monsters that are in the level of vermin.
A group of 6 soldiers is using a spear wall formation to fight a series of goblins that are on the way without anyone directing them. Seems that for minor nuisance like those these guards are capable of dealing without the need of our help.
Lisa is, although afraid, helping where she can. When we find people injured she uses her healing spell. A couple of goblins start to run at us as we are moving to where more monsters are, and she uses her smite skill for the first time and often prays for the soldiers and other people.
She can run her mouth from time to time, and often has shown the ability to act how she should. The slap she gave me yesterday still stings in my face, even after healing.
It doesn't kill the goblin but it stuns it for enough time for me to kill the other and she to call upon divine punishment over the creature with her [Smite] skill again. Both goblins die.
"You were having problems fighting days ago, even getting a panic attack in the forest. You have improved a lot." I say to Lisa.
"T-thank you... I just want to be helpful for once..." She blushes a bit and oks to the ground with her hands together in front of her skirt. "I am usually just a burden and I still feel fear during combat..."
"Well, you are being helpful."
"How did all of these monsters come in here, anyway?" Lisa asks while staying close to me. "There are too many!"
"There are too many for Oswald to be the only one doing it..." I explain.
"And Aurelia is still not around. You would think she would be flying around town with her new pet." Karina comments.
She should be here by now, we should have seen her in the sky trying to find us or at least going around killing monsters. She enjoys showing off, proud of what she did to everyone. Then why is she not here anymore?
"We are looking for Aurelia. I am worried now."
And as I say and turn.
"Be careful!" Someone screams.
I seek the source of the yelling. Guards with arrows are trying to shoot down a creature I could define as fire foxes coming down the streets. Me and my ass with no water spells are going to suffer with these.
The soldiers are having trouble with these, having only normal weapons, getting their iron items melting or outright doing little to the creatures. The mages are nowhere to be around.
"Were are the magic users?! We cannot fight them like this!"
"Shit." I curse and move forward. "Lisa! Just focus on support!"
I say. I was hoping to leave the minor creatures to them, but those creatures are too much for them. If I just leave them they will most likely die.
