Crimson System of Vampire Prince

Chapter 64: The Scarlet Book

Victor smiled and closed the book. He glanced at the statue above the hearth and muttered, "I don't know if this is the truth, but I agree with you on one thing: I don't like Humans. I was a human, then turned into a Vampire. But, even if I had remained a human, I would have felt the same thing."

He exhaled and leaned back. "The ugly side of Humans, I have experienced it closely." He whispered. His eyes closed, and as he drifted into deep slumber.

A pitch-black darkness felt like tall walls surrounding him.

Tap!

The concentric waves of water spread toward him. His eyes darted around the darkness. He realized that he couldn't see through it. The floor didn't feel like water, but his every step produced ripples in it.

"Victor, you're late. You have to remember your past. Soon". A familiar sound echoed around him and faded away slowly. Then, suddenly, a bright light appeared; he closed his eyes and shielded himself with his arm in a reflex.

"Oh, a human possessing the blood of ancient Vampires." A feminine, sweet sound tickled his ears.

He lowered his arm and saw a palm-sized girl floating midair. She was wearing a white dress, and her long, white, feathered wings fluttered behind her. Her eyes were of a rainbow color, and she flew around him like a little bird.

Victor exclaimed, "A fairy!... but how?"

"Aiyaa! You're cute too." She chirped in a squeaky voice.

Baffled, he looked around himself. There was no one else, he whispered, "Wasn't I in that secret room? How did I get here?"

Fairy's rainbow eyes squinted, she flew toward his face and replied, "You're still in my tomb. This is your soul space—some also call it mind space. The darkness you're experiencing is because you haven't unlocked your past lives' memories."

She gazed him in the eyes and smirked, "You're weak."

"Who are you? And I don't appreciate your tone?" He growled at her.

"Hahahaha, Cute!" She giggled and flew away.

He glared at her, with fists clenched and gritting his teeth. 'She is getting on my nerves.'

The Fairy stopped, and her face turned serious. She looked down on him from above and replied, "My name is Fey, the cursed descendant of fairies. I don't know how much time has passed, but I still loathe humans. I sensed a similar emotion in your heart. You were human and but now—you're a Vampire."

Victor's eyes widened, and his jaw dropped. He froze for a moment. 'Fairy, the Tomb of a fairy? Was it true then that they existed? But, how could the whole race vanish from the face of the Neero?'

Fey remained in the air, arms crossed and eyes fixed on him.

He glanced at her and asked, 'What are you doing in my soul space?'

A smile spread on Fey's face, and she closed the distance between the two. She whispered, "I will tell you when you're strong enough. Heed my advice and learn a useful skill before you leave for that competition you were talking about. Your life will be in danger."

Victor woke up, and he glanced around himself with widened eyes. He was back in the room, no, a tomb. His eyes drifted toward the stone figure of a fairy.

"Fey!" he exclaimed and stumbled back, falling on his ass.

"This figure…is similar to the one I saw in a dream." He muttered, and then his heart thrummed like a war drum. He realized that it wasn't a dream. He gazed at her with a stiff neck, then remembered her warning. To learn a skill, a useful skill.

He exhaled, standing up, and muttered, "Can I ever dream again, like a normal person?"

"A skill, huh, my Blood Echo hasn't made any progress, and I don't have any other skill than that." He muttered. He glanced at his hands and thought, 'I have only made a little progress in sword, and my aim has become a little better. But, I have to increase my skills.' He opened up the system and glanced at his CP, "Only 2000 from the recent rewards. I won't be able to buy decent skills with this much."

Frustrated, his eyes wandered around the room. His eyes paused on the bookshelves, nearly placed in the corner. He walked toward them and stood before the one he hadn't cleaned yet. He scanned the dust-filled books, and all of them were properly preserved. Even though dust covered them and a long time had passed, the books remained preserved.

He randomly took out one book and scanned it. He muttered, "Useless." And threw behind himself. One after the other, he checked the books, but there was nothing he could use. Many of them were useful, but he couldn't use them right away. He slumped back on the sofa, threw his head back, and closed his eyes. He knew that the warning from Fey might not be true, but he couldn't take a risk. Why not be prepared beforehand? They were already at a huge disadvantage.

Then, suddenly, he remembered a cryptic book he got from the Crimson Altar of the Moon Goddess. He took it out of his inventory and opened it up. Nothing has changed; the book was still empty with only a cryptic word on the first page.

'I am a Vampire.' A thought rang in his head. He pricked his finger with his teeth, brought his hand above the cover of the book, and a drop fell on it.

Whoosh!

A gust of air came out, followed by the red smoke.

This!

He backed away, leaving the book. The crimson smoke felt like a living being; it swirled above the book, and then it was pulled in.

Swoosh!

All the smoke got pulled inside the book, and it closed with the rustling sound of pages. Victor observed everything with widened eyes and was frozen in his place. After a few seconds of waiting, as he saw nothing had happened, he moved closer to the book. He picked up the book with trembling hands.

The cover of the book has changed into Scarlet, resembling more blood than a book.

Buzzz!

It pulsed in his hand like a living heart.
