Chapter 489: Arrows That Never Fly
In the sky, too many to count flames danced.
No genius was needed to know that they would fall on the Crucible and burn thousands of soldiers.
Malvador also saw it and he nodded in appreciation.
Pablo couldn't care about him and focused only on the solution.
It's someone's Ego. A long range Ego. This does not belong to my soldiers and I don't think Harlia's soldiers have something like this as well. So that only leaves Malvador. Judging by his reaction, he knew about this. Fine.
Pablo raced his mind to find a way to be safe from the approaching fireballs.
"I can extinguish them, Commander." One soldier said.
"No." Pablo refused. "If you extinguish, the next wave will come. We have to nip it from the bud."
"How will we find the bud out of all these soldiers while fighting?" Another soldier asked.
"This is probably being done by a Vampire since Malvador knows about it. This is a long range attack. And the one using it won't be around us. He wouldn't want to be near the spot where the fire balls will strike. He must be standing at the back, hidden. Draxus, go and find that man before everything burns. Kill him right away and share the news of his death. Got it?"
"As you wish." Draxus agreed and slipped inside his shadow.
"Alright. The one who said that they can extinguish the fire, make sure to do it when you see it reach dangerously close. Now get back to work. Don't lotter. Even if the fire kills us all, our hands should be killing not praying. GO!"
"YES!"
The soldiers carried on their kills and Pablo carried on his walk.
Malvador did the same as both men found their blood boiling as they reached closer and closer.
But unlike them, someone did reach his desired position.
"Czar! I have reached the back! There is a whole troop here. They consist of at least two hundred soldiers. Both the Vampires and Cannibals are in this team. They all have bows and arrows and some of them have their hands extended towards the sky. These people are hidden completely because we can't look past the large number of soldiers we are dealing with."
Draxus' message arrived and after a while of silence, Pablo replied, "They are there because they can throw arrows at us while we stay busy fighting with other soldiers. No matter how skilled the soldiers are, if the million arrows were shot, there would be at least fifty deaths. Also, the soldiers standing with their palms outstretched towards the sky, they might be the ones behind these fire balls in the sky. That's the only possible reason they are standing like that."
"So what do you want me to do?"
"Do you even need to ask?"
Draxus smiled. "I got it."
Pablo stopped talking and looked around. He stood on his toes to see past Malvador as well.
There he saw some Vampire and Cannibal soldiers with their bows and arrows and they were still. Their target was aimed at the sky and Pablo couldn't understand why they were waiting. If they could shoot then just shoot, why wait?
Malvador figured what Pablo was looking at past him but the Vampire king didn't give a damn about that.
Pablo also stood normally on his feet. Unlike Malvador, he hadn't placed any of the soldiers at the back of his army as he already had less soldiers as compared to the joined forces of the Cannibals and the Vampires. If he had made some soldiers of the Forza kingdom stay at the back with bows and arrows, he would have only faced difficulty during the war. No advantage.
The fire balls in the sky appeared closer now and he waited for Draxus to give the news.
But a man like Pablo doesn't get to wait as he had a man like Draxus with him.
"Czar, I am behind the soldiers who have their hands stretched out towards the sky."
"What the fcuk are you doing behind them? Watching their ass? Since when did you become like this? Kill them all and join the fight!" Pablo yelled as he was hoping for the news of the death of those soldiers, not Draxus hiding behind those soldiers.
"Hear me out first, Czar. I would have killed them but don't you think it's weird that these soldiers with bow and arrows are just standing with their aim at the sky? They hadn't shot their arrows at all. They should have done that just after the War had started and everyone was running towards each other. What are they waiting for?"
"I know. But there is no way to find the answer for that. But if you don't kill those soldiers who don't have bows but their long range Ego, many of our soldiers will burn to death. So stop thinking and just pass the verdict for fucks sake!"
Draxus' heavy breath fell on Pablo's ears and after a second, the right hand man made the decision.
"Glory to Czar, I guess."
There were more than a hundred soldiers with their hands raised towards the sky and Draxus was inside the shadow of the first soldier in line.
He wasted no time as Pablo had ordered and sucked the soldier inside the shadow.
No one noticed a thing and Draxus killed the soldier inside the shadow.
Then the man moved onto the next soldier and sucked him inside the shadow as well.
Like that, he killed the second soldier and in both times, he asked Pablo if the fireballs vanished from the sky or not.
The answer was no and Draxus carried on. And even if the answer was yes, Draxus wouldn't have stopped killing all these soldiers.
There were more than ninety soldiers to kill and if Draxus tried to kill them one by one then it would take a lot of time and the fireballs might reach the ground by then. He had to do something. Something effective.
And the solution he reached for something effective was…
He came out of his shadows and stood in front of the soldiers.
The time for hiding was over.
It was now time to seek.
