Coin’s Edge: Reincarnated as a Extra

Chapter 48: You must take responsibility for this!

"So… have you read all of it?" Derek asked while adjusting his glasses and looking at the book Hector had just placed on his desk.

"I did." Hector nodded and lifted his head toward Derek politely.

Derek had closed his eyes and had leaned back in his chair, glancing out the small window.

"You can keep it," he said in an even tone.

"H-Huh? W-What do you mean?" Hector stammered, caught off guard by the situation, his awkward words.

"I told… You can take it," Derek repeated, briefly glancing at Hector before shifting his gaze back to the window.

But that wasn't all—he added a few more words next.

"You can take any book there!" He pointed his old, rough finger at a stack of books on his desk.

"Huh? What is that?" Hector's eyes widened in surprise as he noticed another book, one he had barely seen just moments ago.

It was a strange book, bound in aged leather, the kind he had only ever seen in historical movies.

It made him shudder.

"It's a rare book that I really like… and it holds what you want to research."

"Pressure points!"

Silence.

"Really?… B-But, is it different from the book you gave me before?" Hector swallowed his saliva, his eyes greedily fixed on the book beneath Derek's finger.

If Derek hadn't said it was his, Hector was certain he would have lunged forward and stolen it.

So, he forced himself to stay composed, suppressing the excitement surging within him. Lowering his head politely, he displayed obedience and goodwill. An obedient child always received the greatest rewards.

"You'll find out soon enough… If I tell you now, there won't be any excitement anymore!"

"Thank you very much! I'm grateful for your kindness," Hector happily stored the book in his storage system. But his expression swiftly changed—he knew that nothing ever came easily.

Derek, having clearly noticed Hector's reaction, let out a sigh, the deep wrinkles on his forehead becoming more pronounced.

"It's a small reward… for the life you ended."

Hector shuddered at those words. His feet froze for a moment, and he quickly tried to turn his face away, afraid that Derke might read his thoughts from the change in his expression.

"Did he mean… Jet? Wait… wait… I recall now! Jet's empire slaughtered his family… so that explains everything."

Hector absentmindedly rubbed his chin, a habit of his whenever he was deep in thought.

However, his contemplation didn't last long before a chilling sensation crept up his spine.

The instructor glared at him aggressively, making it clear that no further questions would be tolerated.

"And now, get out of my room! I have a lot of work to do."

"Y-Yes, sir!" Hector stammered, realizing that it was time to leave.

Instantly, he started moving—slowly at first, step by step—before quickly breaking into a run.

Yet, just as he reached for the door, a rough voice echoed through the room. It wasn't entirely clear, but it was powerful enough for him to hear.

A voice filled with pure mana.

"If you want to survive… You should leave that academy as soon as possible!"

"Hm?" Hector rolled his eyes and rubbed his chin again, replaying Derek's words in his mind.

Then, he let out a deep breath and continued down the castle hallway, trying to calm his unsettling thoughts.

"Why did he say that to me?… What's going to happen to the academy?"

"He has been reminding me ever since the incident with Jet... But if I run away now, my fate won't be much different. After all, I've already been wanted across the world since I killed Jet."

"However, something is definitely wrong at the academy… Many instructors have disappeared without a trace. I have a bad feeling about this."

"I guess… what Derke said was absolutely true. I don't trust him, but my lucky coin is a different story."

"So… I'll leave this place after I fulfill my promise to Bam… Just a few days left! It's not too long."

A sigh escaped his lips once again.

"Just stick to the plan..."

He kept his feet firmly on the floor, looking around in amusement, savoring the last moments of his life at the academy.

"Oops, I won't be able to complete my program…"

"At the very least, I wanted to get my degree."

Tap.

Tap.

Tap.

"Tsk! Those eyes are too annoying. I should leave here as soon as possible."

Hector cleared his throat in discomfort, avoiding the unfriendly gazes directed at him.

Ever since he had killed Jet, people's wariness toward him had increased significantly. Now, he was completely isolated by all the students.

They believed Hector was corrupted—or worse, cursed. And he understood why. Countless incidents had happened to him, yet he always survived without a single wound.

More precisely, everyone was looking for a pretext for everything that had happened at the academy, as if it were his fault, although the truth was barely like that.

However, he was satisfied with his new role as a back sheep!

Suddenly, something entered his eyes as he scanned the whole surroundings.

''Huh? Is it her?''

"Again!… She's still doing that?" Hector glanced toward a certain spot at the far end of the hallway.

With his special eyes, he could see beyond the wall, where a young girl was hiding.

Of course, it was Violet.

She had been watching him ever since that day.

But Hector ignored her and continued walking.

"I won't apologize to her… She'll give up soon."

"I assume my relationship with her will end once I leave this academy."

"Damn!... Stupid uncle!" Violet glanced furtively at Hector from behind the wall, clenching her fists in anger.

At this moment, her ears flushed even more… She didn't understand! Why was she reacting like this to Hector and the foolish thing she had said to him?

She had never experienced anything like this before… She had never once felt embarrassed like this.

Since then, Waren had always teased her, so… she wanted to find out the reason behind it and experience it again!

And it was too strange.

"You must take responsibility for this!"
