Chapter 20: chapter 20
Author's note before starting, if I named it Javier Miller for President Javier Milei, I don't know if the All Karate dojo exists in the series, so let's assume I made it up.
[Tournament Day, Third-Person POV]
The matches had begun, following an incredible musical performance by Carrie Underwood that left everyone amazed. The first fights, however, were dull to watch—average skills, nothing impressive.
"Eli Moskowitz from Miyagi-Do versus Javier Miller from All Karate," announced the presenter.
Eli walked confidently toward the referee, only to be stopped by David, who patted him firmly on the shoulder.
"Listen to me, Eli. I want you to go out there and show how far you've come. Prove that you're no longer the bully you used to be."
"Yes!" Eli responded with visible determination. He walked with renewed confidence and stood before the referee.
"Bow to me. Bow to each other. Fight!" the referee declared.
Eli started aggressively, throwing punches and feints. His opponent defended well until Eli executed a clean shoulder throw, sending Javier to the ground. Eli followed up with a quick strike, scoring the first point.
"Point for Miyagi-Do! Return to your corners," the referee instructed.
When both fighters were ready, the referee signaled again.
"Fight!"
This time, Javier took the offensive, launching powerful kicks. Eli managed to block them but took noticeable damage to his arms in the process. Eli countered with punches, aiming for close-quarters combat, but Javier intercepted one of his strikes. Using his lower body for leverage, Javier locked Eli's shoulder and threw him to the ground.
As Javier moved in to finish, Eli rolled and countered with a leg sweep, knocking Javier down as well. Both fighters scrambled to their feet, Eli retreating to create distance and catch his breath. Seeing this, Javier smirked and rushed forward. Pretending to go for a low leg sweep, Javier used his hand for balance and whipped a high kick straight to Eli's face.
"Point for All Karate! Return to your corners," the referee declared.
"Did you see that kick, Sensei? That was capoeira. The way he completely caught Eli off guard… that guy's good," David said excitedly, his eagerness to fight growing by the second.
"Yes, he's skilled," Sensei LaRusso agreed, arms crossed. "But I trust Eli."
As the match resumed, Eli switched to a defensive strategy, reacting to Javier's attacks. When Javier made a mistake, Eli capitalized with a quick strike, scoring another point.
"2-1, point for Miyagi-Do! Return to your corners. Fight!"
Javier decided to play it safe, slowing his pace and avoiding risks. The two fighters cautiously circled each other, searching for an opening. Eli finally struck with a quick low kick to Javier's shin, followed by a high kick to his face that knocked him out cold.
The referee rushed over, signaling the medics to check on Javier. After a few tense seconds, Javier got up on his own, showing no serious injuries. The fighters exchanged a handshake as the referee raised Eli's arm.
"The winner: Eli Moskowitz from Miyagi-Do!"
Cheers erupted from the Miyagi-Do section, celebrating their first victory of the day.
