Chapter 48
Misha gripped the rod, ready to practice fire magic.
“Well, at first, you might experience continuous failures, but don’t get discouraged and keep going—”
Suddenly, an enormous flame engulfed the field with incredible power.
“What kind of power is this! Even I can’t produce such a blast without putting my all into it!” exclaimed Master Hanna.
Well, that’s to be expected… I even felt a temporary rise in temperature around me…
“I’m quite high level in terms of magic,” Misha said.
“This is too high!” I replied.
Then, the fire seemed to have ignited some dry branches and started spreading.
“This is bad… We need to use the most powerful water magic we have…”
Hanna extended her hands forward, and water collided with the flames.
But the fire’s intensity was overwhelmingly strong, and it barely weakened.
“How can this be! Even my top-tier magic from the capital isn’t working!?” Hanna was clearly perplexed.
I felt sorry; Misha’s abilities were just nonsensically overpowered…
“Um, could this possibly be bad…?” Misha asked, turning towards me.
“Yeah, this isn’t good…”
Moreover, the wind was quite strong that day, posing a risk of the fire spreading towards the town.
“This is an accident during practice, so I’m not to blame, right?”
“Even so, we can’t just run away! We have to do something…”
As an A-rank adventurer, I didn’t have the power to extinguish a fire…
“I understand, I have an idea,” Hanna spoke up. “Misha, I’ll teach you water magic now! With your power, you might be able to produce enough water to stop the flames!”
It made sense; the one who created such flames might be capable of producing enough water to extinguish them.
“Water magic is much more difficult than fire, but it might work. No, please make it work!”
“I’ll try,” Misha nodded in agreement.
“There’s not much time, but I’ll teach you as best as I can!”
Thus began an urgent magic lesson against a backdrop of flames.
“Remember, imagine a mass of water in your mind. Think of throwing a pool’s worth of water into the air.”
“Okay, I understand…”
“Now imagine that water expanding rapidly. Make sure it gets big.”
“I think I can do it…”
“Then let it fly. Thrust your hands forward.”
“I think I’ve got it…”
“Go ahead, practice!”
Misha extended her hands and called out, “Water, burst forth with all your might!”
A waterfall-like mass of water, seemingly appearing from nowhere, crashed into the flames.
Thanks to that, the fire rapidly diminished and was successfully extinguished.
“You did it! Well done, Misha!” Hanna exclaimed joyously.
“Great job, Misha!” I praised her sincerely.
Misha’s talent for attack magic was indeed exceptional.
“Thank you, Master. Now, I can protect you even if we’re attacked by many enemies.”
Misha was in high spirits.
There were problems, but all’s well that ends well.
But there was still an issue.
“Hey, Misha, how long are you going to keep producing water?”
“Oh, I forgot to ask how to stop it…”
I had a bad feeling.
“Hanna, please tell her how to stop it quickly!”
“Ah? The water magic will continue until it runs out; there’s no way to stop it…”
So Misha’s water magic was too powerful…
The field was slightly sloped, and we were on the lower side.
Meaning, the water was flowing down towards us.
A flood was imminent!
“This is bad! Misha, we have to run!”
“But I’m still releasing water… It’s weakening, but…”
No choice!
I picked up Misha and said, “Aim the water towards the back!”
Then I started running.
“Thank you, Master! I’m so happy to be carried like a princess!”
“This is no time for that!”
“Don’t leave me behind!” Master Hanna ran after us, panicked.
Somehow, we had to escape!
◇
Afterward, although a flood was averted, some damage occurred outside Hanna’s house, with some of her junk being submerged in water.
“Misha… there’s nothing more I can teach you… Continue to persevere as a mage… You’ve mastered everything,” Hanna said, looking exhausted.
It felt more like a dismissal than mastery.
Anyway, Misha had learned both fire and water magic, so I guess it was a success.
