Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Powerful Entity
Hiromi Kato was just thrilled to have found someone who truly understood her younger sister. However, Rei Ao's next words left her utterly bewildered.
"Moreover, I have a way to address the issue with Megumi."
"Huh?"
Hiromi froze. Her initial reaction was one of disbelief.
After all, their family had taken Megumi to several hospitals, but no doctor could diagnose the cause of her condition, let alone offer any treatment. They'd been cautious in caring for her, raising her as safely as possible.
And now he claimed he could cure her?
"Rei Ao, I know you mean well for Megumi, but isn't this going a bit too far?" Hiromi said awkwardly, fearing that giving Megumi too much hope could lead to crushing disappointment later.
However, Rei Ao wasn't one for empty words; he was a man of action. Right in front of Hiromi, he gently stroked Megumi's cheek, then leaned in and kissed her softly on the lips, leaving Hiromi in shock.
"???"
Hiromi was baffled. 'Is this supposed to be a cure? Isn't he just showing affection?'
Yet, events quickly took an unexpected turn. She watched, stunned, as red scales began to appear across her sister's face.
"W-what is happening?!" Hiromi cried out in alarm.
"Rei Ao, what… what's going on with me?" Megumi, equally shocked, felt the strange sensations coursing through her.
Rei Ao smiled gently. "This is a protective power I've given to you."
[Name]: Megumi Kato
[Level]: Level 1
[Abilities]: "Dragon Power," "Spirit of Light," "Soul Protection," "Mystic Presence," "Inherent Device: Spirit-Severing Blade"
"Mystic Presence": Allows the user to suppress their presence at will.
"Inherent Device: Spirit-Severing Blade": Capable of dispelling illusions, breaking defenses, and disrupting energy.
(TL: I don't understand why this "Spirit of Light" or "Soul Protection" isn't "Rei Ao's Blessings"?)
'This weapon seems tailor-made for assassination.' Megumi had essentially become a real assassin.
"Rei Ao… thank you."
Now that she understood her presence had transformed into a controlled power, the tenderness and affection in Megumi's gaze overflowed. Ignoring her sister's stunned look, she leaned in once more to embrace Rei Ao's neck and kiss him again, this time with greater intent and depth.
"…"
Finally, Hiromi couldn't hold back and interrupted.
"Could you two stop kissing and explain to me what on earth is going on?"
"Is this some kind of prank or a video recording?" Recently, she'd seen many short videos of people pranking their family members online. She looked around, half-expecting to spot a camera or some recording device.
"Sis, there's no need to look. There aren't any cameras, and we're not filming anything," Megumi assured, stopping Hiromi's speculations.
She looked at Rei Ao. Since the power was his, she felt it wasn't her place to explain it. But since he was revealing his abilities to her sister, he must have his reasons, and she trusted him.
Rei Ao nodded slightly and said, "Hiromi Kato-san, in truth, Megumi's problem with her presence isn't an illness. Rather, it's an incomplete ability—essentially a passive supernatural power."
"Su-supernatural?" Hiromi's immediate reaction was disbelief, as such a concept challenged her worldview. However, recalling Megumi's unusual presence all along, perhaps calling it supernatural wasn't entirely unreasonable, especially after what she'd just witnessed.
The red scales on Megumi's face and arms had now vanished, as if it had all been an illusion.
The reason Rei Ao hadn't concealed his powers was, in fact, to gain Hiromi's understanding.
He raised his hand.
'Whoosh!'
Suddenly, flames erupted, burning vigorously in his palm.
"Ah! Fire!"
Hiromi's instinct was, of course, to put it out, but Rei Ao grasped her hand firmly.
"Calm down. The flames I control won't harm you."
"!!!"
Hiromi was stunned to realize that although the fire was right on her arm, she felt neither the burn nor any heat.
"How is this even possible?!"
Rei Ao shrugged. "Seeing is believing. The truth is as you've observed: I possess supernatural abilities, and I've already resolved Megumi's issue with her presence. You don't need to worry anymore."
Megumi nodded in agreement. "Yes, Sis. I can now control my presence."
However, Megumi Kato had no intention of becoming dazzling or drawing attention. She still preferred to remain unnoticed in the eyes of others—being someone special in Rei Ao's eyes alone was enough.
"…"
Hiromi Kato looked shocked, overwhelmed by everything she had just witnessed. After a moment, she couldn't help but ask, "Are you sure it's okay to tell me about this?"
After all, this was about supernatural abilities. If she were to let such a secret slip, it could bring a lot of trouble for Rei Ao. Yet he seemed to trust her completely, which left her feeling puzzled.
In response, Rei Ao smiled calmly. "You're Megumi's sister, after all," he said. "Now that Megumi and I are bound by fate, I don't believe a sister who cares for her would ever put her in harm's way."
"…"
He had a point. Hiromi always put her family first, especially her dear little sister. The thought of anyone mistreating Megumi made her clench her fists.
"Besides, Hiromi Kato-san, haven't you also been open with me?" Rei Ao said playfully.
"!!!"
Honest? Hiromi suddenly recalled the awkward moment when she had barged into Megumi's room not long ago.
"Oh…"
Her face instantly flushed with embarrassment as the memory rushed back, her cheeks turning bright red.
"Alright, alright, I get it," she said, scratching her head awkwardly. "I won't meddle in your affairs anymore. My head's spinning; I need to go rest for a bit."
With that, she hurried off to her room, unable to face them any longer.
As he watched her retreat, Rei Ao couldn't help but murmur, "A mature woman with a little innocence is really something special."
"Ah… so, Rei Ao, you've had your eye on my sister all along?" Megumi said suddenly, analyzing his actions step by step.
"First, your expression changed when you saw her just now; then, you called her by name, even though I never mentioned it. And just now, you even demonstrated your supernatural powers deliberately."
Megumi locked her gaze with Rei Ao's eyes. "Am I right, Rei Ao?"
"Megumi, are you a mind-reader?" Rei Ao said, pretending to be shocked, though it didn't fool her.
It was also a roundabout way of admitting his thoughts.
"…"
Megumi chuckled lightly. "I had a feeling you weren't entirely innocent when you asked me last time if my sister had a boyfriend."
"Hahaha."
"So, Megumi, are you regretting being my girlfriend now?"
Rei Ao reached for Megumi's hand, which she offered without hesitation. She blinked her wide, clear eyes, looking up at him calmly, and pointed to her lips.
"Rei Ao, haven't you already left your blessings on me?"
"So you must already consider me your possession, right?"
"Even if I did regret it, a possessive person like you wouldn't let me go, would you?"
Megumi really did know him inside out. But there was one thing he felt he needed to correct.
Wrapping his arm around her waist, he leaned close to her ear and whispered, "Rather than possession, I think 'treasure' is a more accurate word."
With that, he leaned in towards her lips.
Megumi closed her eyes, waiting.
Soon enough, Rei Ao took things further. But Megumi suddenly grabbed his hand and, in a shy, soft voice, asked, "Rei Ao, let's… go to my room."
"Alright."
Without hesitation, Rei Ao lifted Megumi into his arms and started towards her room.
As he reached her door, though, the door across the hall opened.
With her face flushed bright red, Hiromi threw two items into Megumi's arms.
"Don't forget to use these!!"
Then she shut the door again instantly.
Seeing the small packets in her arms, Rei Ao chuckled. "Your sister really is looking out for you, isn't she? Hahaha."
"Ugh!" Megumi was so embarrassed she wished she could disappear.
Before she could say anything, Rei Ao carried her into the bedroom.
"..."
Hiromi Kato rubbed her temples vigorously.
Ahhh!
What on earth was she doing?
Her sister was about to be… intimate, and here she was, even giving her supplies for safety.
But that wasn't the most mortifying part.
Soon enough, Megumi's voice drifted into her ears.
"…"
The fact that her younger sister would become a woman before her… she wanted to die!
…
'Whoosh!'
Dragon wings stirred the clouds in the sky.
Tohru, with her dragon's eyes, gazed down from high above at the city glowing with neon lights, even in the night.
She had now seen this world with her own eyes.
Just as Rei Ao had said, humans were indeed extremely weak.
She had followed his advice to conceal her presence with magic.
But now, what was she supposed to do?
Return?
Tohru realized that the worlds had already merged, and she could easily open a portal back to her original world.
Yet she hesitated.
If she went back, she would once again be thrust into endless battles, wars, and treacherous schemes.
The thought of such a predictable, tiring future filled Tohru with exhaustion.
"I just want to rest, to live a quiet life."
A glimmer of light flickered in her dragon's eyes.
Compared to the chaos of her own world, this one was peaceful.
"Could I live here?"
Tohru couldn't help but wonder.
She flew aimlessly, searching for a place to settle.
…
Tohru, for once, had some rare quiet time.
But the four little angels and demons found no such peace.
"Gab, Vigne, Satania, something big has happened!"
Raphiel gathered them all together.
"Ugh… Raphi, what are you doing up so late?"
Gabriel yawned dramatically, rubbing her eyes. She didn't want anyone to realize she had been up all night gaming.
Satania, however, was truly sleepy, her head nodding while wearing her nightcap.
Vignette, on the other hand, simply hadn't slept well.
The sounds she'd heard at Rei Ao's house for hours that day kept replaying in her mind, making it impossible to shake them off.
Seeing how distracted everyone was, Raphiel frowned slightly but went on with the main point.
"There's been a major event in the human world."
"Heaven just sent word—a very powerful entity from another world seems to have crossed over into the human realm."
Gabriel waved her hand dismissively. "How strong could it be?"
Right now, all she wanted was to get back to her game.
"Very strong. Its power might rival your sister Zelel."
Vignette snapped to attention.
"Gab's sister…"
She widened her eyes. "Zelel, the strongest seraph in heaven?!"
Hearing her sister's name, Gabriel immediately lost all sleepiness, and her expression turned serious.
"As strong as my sister?"
"The strongest? Who's the strongest?"
Satania's ears perked up.
With hands on her hips, she announced proudly, "I, Satania, am the strongest demon!"
No one paid attention to her antics, though. The situation Raphiel described was too serious.
A powerful entity in the human world capable of leveling everything…
"We wouldn't stand a chance against an opponent like that."
Vignette sighed, looking helpless.
"Indeed," Raphiel nodded. "Heaven and the underworld have already discussed it; our job is just to pinpoint the location. Then we'll have reinforcements from heaven and the underworld."
"So there'll be reinforcements. That's a relief."
Vignette let out a breath.
Satania, meanwhile, raised her hand. "My master is strong too! We could ask him for help!"
"Master?"
Raphiel looked puzzled.
Did her little plaything have a master? She hadn't heard of this.
"She means Rei Ao," Vignette explained awkwardly.
What Satania's master had taught her was… unconventional but surprisingly effective.
"Oh?"
Raphiel's eyes twinkled.
The hint of embarrassment in Vignette's expression didn't escape her notice.
It seemed something interesting had happened that she didn't know about.
