Chapter 13: Chapter 13.
I stood there, waiting for the enemy Devils to arrive, when I yet again heard the sound of paper tearing…
Well, that was rather annoying, but I should have expected that by now.
Then I heard another sound of paper tearing, causing my hand to clench around the Bonewood Staff.
Okay, now that? That was really annoying. Twice in a damn row? Fucking hell.
But I couldn't allow for any distractions, I had a battle to fight after all.
And so I waited for several minutes, looking into the sky all the while, and at the exact ten minute mark, I could just barely make out a winged figure coming towards me.
It looked like the Sundancers had done a part of their job, as I couldn't see the other four. Meaning they've successfully managed to delay over half of the Devils, a good job for summons that seemed to have been quite a bit weaker than myself.
The figure eventually came close enough for me to be able to see her, and I saw that she was a rather buxom woman with large breasts, long blue hair that flowed in the wind and she was wearing a simple maroon dress, and black heeled shoes. Her shirt was open at her chest, giving me a nice view of her breasts and cleavage, she had two large black angel-like wings. And I also noticed that she also wore a gold necklace around her neck.
But the most noticeable thing about her, other than her nice tits was the large spear made out of what looked like gold.
"Lich! What are you doing here in Kuoh!?" The Devil demanded, as she flowed down to me, her two large black angel-like wings slowing her descent.
Alright, so it looked like she didn't know who I was, which was good. But I also didn't recognize her as a member of the faculty of Kuoh Academy… perhaps the Devils that I saw with my magic were unknown members?
They could have been newly reincarnated Devils, and if so? They have my pity, I'd never wish Devilfication on anyone unwilling, after all.
I prepared my magics, just in case she attacked… but I had a slight hope that she could be talked down.
Mostly because I didn't want to get caught in the middle of fighting her when her allies eventually arrived, as I didn't think that a 5v1 would go in your favor.
I stared at the Devil for a moment, as she glared at me, we were both waiting for the other to make the first move.
"Well? Are you going to answer my question, Lich?" She demanded, as she moved closer to me, brandishing her spear as some sort of intimidation tactic.
"Lich? Do you take me for some manner of human poser, heathen?" I intoned, a menacing note to my voice as the Bonewood Staff in my hand glowed a sickly green, "I shall have you know, I am a perfectly natural boned skeleton, and not some jumped up soul jammed into a pair of bones."
"…What?" She asked, looking genuinely confused as she faltered in her steps.
…Yeah actually, what the fuck was I saying there? Damn it, I was panicking again…
"Listen, I have no idea as to why you are here, and have no quarrel with your kind. If you are willing to explain your reasoning as to why you are here, I shall let you go." I said after a moment, raising my staff slightly in a threatening manner.
"Ah… ahahaha, do you really think that you can threaten me? Oh, I'm so scared of a pile of bones! Kyaaaa!" The Devil mocked me, letting out a derisive fake scream as she waved her hands 'fearfully', "Now. If you're done playing around, kindly move aside, and I won't kill you"
"Move aside? You dare to presume that I would move aside to you? You whose motives I do not know? You who would gladly stab me in the back as I acquiesce to your nonsensical demands? I don't think so." I growled out, as I prepared myself for combat.
"Well, if you really do want to know? We sensed a rather powerful Sacred Gear in the nearby area… now, I wonder. Just what could you be doing here, Lich? Did you sense it as well? Is that why you're here?" She asked, raising her own spear in preparation.
Then I had to quickly dodge out of the way, as she fired a blast of light directly at me.
"Well then, it looks like negotiations have broken down, shame." I muttered to myself, as I fired a Zap in her direction, but she just barely dodged out of the way of the blast.
The two of us looked at each other for a moment, before I was forced to dodge yet another spear that she seemed to have created with her magic.
Turning around, I saw that the road was carved into pieces, due to the sheer power of the spear. Damn it, that's going to be pretty annoying to explain away later.
So in the interest of lowering collateral damage, I quickly flew up into the air, meeting her eye level.
"Well now, that was rather rude, don't you think?" I said, as I glared at the woman in front of me, "Apologize."
"Ha! For what? Damaging the road? How about this, if you beg for your pitiful life, then maybe… just maybe I'll say I'm sorry~" The Devil woman said with a taunting grin, as another spear appeared in her hand.
She then threw it, but I was quickly able to dodge out of the way yet again, before returning fire with another Zap.
I watched as the glowing bubble shot towards her, but she was able to deflect it with yet another light spear, though it broke apart upon contact.
"Agh! Just die already!" She shouted, as she started to fire several swiftly and shoddily made spears of light at me.
It was rather easy to dodge them, as they quickly fizzled out, some of them did so before even reaching me.
Using a quick Thought Acceleration, I watched as the world slowed down around me.
I could already see a slight light manifesting in the palm of her hand, meaning she'd be trying to make another light spear.
Could she make other light weaponry? Perhaps swords, axes, or the like? And just how was a Devil able to use light?
Wasn't that supposed to be one of their weaknesses? Or was this specific Devil just special? Perhaps it's a Sacred Gear?
But whether she had a Sacred Gear or not didn't matter that much to me in the moment, as I watched the light ever so slightly take more form, becoming a little bit larger than it was before.
Okay, so her light magic was rather quick to form… especially when she was rapidly firing her spears at me.
When they got near me, I was able to just vaguely sense some sort of connection to them. Nothing actually tangible, but I felt that I might be able to do something similar in the future.
I had an affinity for Sun Magic, after all, at least that's what my instincts are telling me. So maybe in the future, I could use what I've seen from this to make Sun Spears?
Actually why just stop at spears? What about Sun Swords? Sun Axes?… Sun Guns? Heh, sun gun. But what about making an entire suit of armor with my Sun Affinity? Show these filthy heathens the 'Wrath of Amaterasu'?
There are so many damn possibilities for the- oh shit!
I was forced to quickly move out of the way of yet another light spear, which had been formed and fired while I was busy thinking about possibly sun weaponry.
Then, as it was soaring past me… I grabbed it out of the air, it felt strangely solid... which was strange as it was supposedly made out of light, perhaps it was some sort of hardlight mechanism? Like I've seen in some of those mecha anime?
"Hmm, interesting properties…" I hummed to myself, as I quickly used Thought Acceleration yet again, to analyze the magical spear in my bony grasp.
Again, it was made entirely out of light, I could easily sense that. But there was something else there, something that I just couldn't touch upon.
I could barely even begin to describe it, but after looking at it a bit more… I felt more confident that I could eventually create an emulation of this sort of spear. I'd just need a lot of time and practice...
Having finished examining it, I dropped Thought Acceleration and looked back to my opponent, to see that she was looking at me in sheer shock.
"Did- did he just catch my spear?" I heard the Devil mutter to herself with a quick use of Clairvoyance.
"Yes, I did!" I announced, as I bent backward, causing my bones to crackle and pop, and Ember to cry out in shock from within my ribcage, before I threw it back at her, "Now! It would be the height of rudeness to steal such a thing from you. Here! You can have it back!"
I watched as the spear soared through the air, and she quickly tried to dismiss it, or make it fade away… but she was just barely too late, and only managed to make the point of the spear blunt.
Which is probably what saved her life, when it impacted against her face and sent her falling to the ground.
I then made sure to fly under her and catch the woman before she impacted against the ground. I didn't want her to die.
I had so many questions to ask her, when she woke up after all.
So with that done, gently laid the woman down on the sidewalk, and looked up to the air.
Seeing that there was nobody else at this moment, I heaved a sigh of relief, the sound of rattling bones being rather chilling even my own ears.
And then I heard the sound of yet another page tearing, and just sighed at that… it wasn't worth getting angry over anymore. Was it annoying? Oh yeah, it was absolutely annoying.
But getting angry over not getting anything?… Fuck, it made me feel like some sort of spoiled brat who didn't get yet another present.
It would've been nice if it just didn't tell me though, having the sound of paper tearing in my ears could be just distracting enough to get me killed in a fight.
But that didn't matter, and so to distract myself from my mild annoyance, I decided to use my Clairvoyance and Divination to find where my enemies currently were.
And I watched as my Sundancers distracted and held the Devils off for the most part, trapping them with consecutive flashbangs and irritating little blasts to their weak points.
They even managed to completely knock one out, the one with black hair in the BDSM gear. She went down like an absolute chump.
But I didn't make the mistake of thinking that she was weak, no… the two men were fighting alongside each other with perfect teamwork, defending the other's weaknesses, and in order to escape, the priestly one fired a bullet into the BDSM Devil woman's wing, causing her to fall to the ground below.
Then as my Sundancers were distracted pouncing on this opportunity, they managed to break free from the trap and were currently making their way to my location.
The gothic lolita Devil on the other hand was completely left behind, fighting against my Sundancers with her weakened ally.
Such betrayal of allies was honestly disgusting to me, even for Devils… this was low.
And so, I waited for the two to arrive at my location… and five minutes later, they did just that.
The first to arrive was a man who seemed like a noir detective, he looked like he was middle-aged with a stern look on his face, wearing a grey trenchcoat and a fedora. He was also wielding a blue spear of light, and had a pair of black wings behind him.
"You, Lich. What are you doing here in Ku- what happened to Kalawarner?" The Devil demanded, as he created a second spear of light in his other hand, dismissing the first one.
The one that he just made looked more… solid than the other, perhaps it was the difference between one made to conserve energy, and one made for an actual fight?
But as I went to answer, I noticed the second man making his arrival, he was a rather short man with white hair, and was wearing a long white coat with a cross on his necklace, in his hands he had a sci-fi looking gun, and a damn lightsaber... I wanted that so fucking badly.
"Donny! It doesn't matter! This fucking skeleton must be working with those damn Devils!" The man said with a maddened grin, as he looked at me, "And you know what we do to Devil Worshippers!"
I then noticed that his ally was just… facepalming, a look of annoyance on his face. It seemed like there was no love between these men, despite their perfect teamwork earlier.
"…Damn it Freed, stand down. We don't have to get into a fight here, I'm sure there's a perfectly understandable reason why this lich is here with an unconscious Kalawarner," The man, Donny said as he looked back to me, "Lich. I am Dohnaseek of The Grigori, will you explain your appearance here in Kuoh?"
"Wait, what do you mean Devil Worshippers?… Are you two not Devils?" I asked, as I stared at the two men. Was I mistaken, or was this some sort of elaborate trick?
"Devils!? You think we're devils!? Why I should gut you where you stand for the mere fucking implication!" The priestly man, Freed said angrily as he drew his sword.
"No no, calm down Freed. And yes, we are not Devils. We are members of the Grigori," He said, but he must have been able to see my confusion as he quickly elaborated, "We're Fallen Angels, cast out from heaven due to our sins."
Huh shit, I might have been completely wrong about them being Devils… if what they're saying is true.
After all, wasn't The Devil originally a fallen angel? They could very well be lying. But it'd probably be for the best to just act convinced for now, there was no need to get into a confrontation with them if I didn't have to.
"Ah, well okay then. She hit herself with her own spear, I swear to God," I said, as I looked at the two of them.
That is basically what happened after all, she created the light spear I threw back at her, and she didn't get rid of it in time.
So yeah, it was completely her fault and not mine at all.
I looked at the two men, and saw that while Dohnaseek looked rather resigned but convinced, the other man, Freed just laughed in my face.
"Pfft! Ha! Do you really think that's possible? Hey Donny! Look at the fuckin' gall on this man!" Freed cackled so hard he had to clutch his chest, "Man! Ha, you're fuckin' funny!"
"Hmm…" Dohnaseek hummed, as his eyes roamed the area, and I noticed that they went a bright white, as he stared directly at where the Fallen Angel I fought, Kalawarner was previously flying.
Then I watched as his eyes went to where I was previously at, and in the exact amount of time that the confrontation took, his eyes landed on where she was originally going to land before I ended up saving her, and where she was now lying unconscious.
"Huh, you were telling the truth," He said after several scant moments, causing Freed to let out a squawk of laughter and surprise, "Well sort of. But it's her own damn fault for not dismissing it when it came flying back to her… she's lucky to even be alive, the fool."
"Wai- wait… she actually got her ass kicked by her own spear? Oh my fucking God!" Freed said, before descending into yet another howl of laughter, before falling to the floor as he laughed.
"So, what do we do now? Do you just grab her and leave? Or…" I started, still ready for a fight just in case, I wasn't stupid enough to let them get the drop on me, after all.
"Well, you've likely already attained the Sacred Gear. So yes, I'll say that we should leave… come along now, Freed. We don't want to get into a fight here, not with the Devils coming any minute now." Dohnaseek said, as he glared at his laughing companion.
"Pfft- aha!… shit, really? Damn it, I wanted to fight one of those filthy fuckin' Devils!… Fine, though. But I'll carry the dumbass, I wanna cop a feel of those titties!" Freed cheered, as he grabbed the unconscious woman, groping her breasts with a large grin on his face, before he put her over his shoulder.
I noticed that Dohnaseek just let out yet another long suffering sigh, before he nodded to me.
"We'll inform our other allies not to attack anymore, not worth it anyway," He said, before quickly flying away, but as he was in the air he gave you a small smirk, "Though, if you ever wish to join the Grigori... you'll know where to find us."
Seeing that they were going, I slumped slightly in relief. Holy shit, that could have gone badly.
Once they were fully gone from my sight, I decided to dismiss the Sundancers that were harassing the other Fallen, there was no use keeping them there if they weren't going to attack me anymore.
But now I had to deal with the possibility of actual Devils coming to me, which could be rather dangerous.
And so, I stood in the middle of the street waiting for any possible Devil to make their arrival.
But as I was doing so, I heard the sound of paper tearing yet again.
I let out a small sigh at that, mostly because that sort of stuff was still pretty damn annoying.
…It didn't matter though, as I had to focus on when the Devils would make their arrival, and just as I was thinking about that? I saw two figures flying toward me.
After a couple of seconds, I was just barely able to make out the forms of… Gremory-san and Koneko?
They both had large bat-like wings coming from their backs, did this… did this mean that they were the real Devils?
Oh shit, oh shit, oh fuck… the teachers weren't the Devils, it was the fucking students.
I have to warn Shitori-san about this!
"Halt! What are you doing in our territory!?" Gremory-san shouted, as the two of them floated over to me.
Then I noticed that Koneko-san was… sniffing the air, a confused look on her face, though it quickly turned into worry and then anger.
"You. What did you do the Hyoudous? Are you why they didn't come to school today?" She demanded coldly, as she glared at me.
"The Hyoudou's?… Have you been harming people on our territory?" Gremory-san also demanded, as she created an erratic red energy in the palm of her hand.
They both looked at me with such sheer anger, looking like they were ready to fight at any moment.
