Cardinal: God Spell

Chapter 12: Isolation (P1)- The Sage's Wager

"Good... Very very good", Sora suddenly said before he burst out laughing as though he had just heard the world's best joke; The members of class 1E were confused, even wondering whether he had lost his mind on the spot. Takada, Piso, and the other Elite students frowned though, they could feel a chill running up their spines as they witnessed Sora's hysteria.

"I was beginning to think those conceited wealthy families were too scared to put down a no-name Orphan that was showing their offspring up... I was even worried that they might be considering bringing me into their families instead of being proper obstacles in my life", Sora said in an almost relieved tone.

"What is that meant to mean?!", Narong demanded as she thought this decision would ultimately humble Sora and make him more submissive to support her later on, Now it seemed like he couldn't be happier to have her as an enemy. That would be anticlimactic as she had formed her plan to use this to send him an Olive branch and win him over with a few leftover resources as she didn't believe an Orphan like him would know what real high-level resources looked like.

"How about we have a little bet?! At the end of the Year; Chen Piso, Zhu Longwei, and all of class 1E will form a unit and fight against me... If I don't win only will I not move on to the next class, but I will be expelled outright; If I win though, I will get all the class resources, and my stock of resources within your squad on the Elite class will be quintupled", Sora suggested with an excited grin. Hearing this chills ran down Takada's spine as the prospect of such a challenge shocked him to his core. The stakes for both sides would do irreparable damage and yet still somehow managed to be equally risky for both sides.

"Answer me you arrogant bastard what do you mean by that relieved look on your face?! Do I look easy to you?!", Narong snapped as she cast a fireball only finishing the cast after 10 seconds she took an extra 5 seconds to form the spell to which she was completely ignored as the tension in the room built. She fired the bright gold fireball shot out at Sora with a low hum approaching him rapidly.

When the fireball got within 2 yards of Sora a bullet-like fireball with a fire trail surrounding it tore through the middle of Narong's Fireball, dissipating it in one go before passing through the rest of the class, passing through the wall and exploding outside creating a massive explosion that momentarily shook the room. The wall caught fire and crumbled leaving the class shocked at the raw power of Sora's spell.

"If anyone still thinks they can hold a candle to me I welcome you to try what Narong just did", Sora declared before turning his eyes to meet Piso, "I quite like you so I won't be too harsh when the time comes but I advise you come with the expectation that you will likely lose on the day of our hypothetical match", Sora said to Piso with a tone of acknowledgement, for the standard around him Sora knew that Piso was a diamond in the rough even among his peers. Frankly, the way Sora saw it the only reason Piso could be considered weaker than Xiao Feifei of the Elite class is the simple fact that the Lightning element is mostly ineffective against Plant element and Floral creatures.

That was beside the point though, He had no allies here and realized he would need some source of resources if he wanted to progress to the Intermediate level without making a complete fool of himself when the time came. Sora walked through the class and put the fire burning at the back of the class out with a wave of his hand. He frowned a simply walked out of class towards the gate of the school which was conveniently just outside of his class, about 100 metres from the wall if one was ever interested in measuring.

As of the moment, Sora already had a guaranteed resource trove for when he got to the Advanced level, The problem was getting to the advanced level In record time, he was not getting help from the academy and he doubted the Orphanage could do much so there was only one option he had in his head. The school had the right to take 5 students to a cultivation zone called the Divine Tower, and if he went there he would be able to increase his cultivation by leaps and bounds.

The issue now was getting there, The tournament the school held to let students earn their right to go there was in 3 weeks and he needed to get strong enough to the senior students by then, If he wasn't during the month after where students where allowed to challenge you for your spot a senior student could swoop in, beat you and take your spot. As far as he knew 3rd and 4th-year students couldn't challenge him because of the difference in class and rules surrounding that, so he had his eyes set on the Elite students of the second year.

He wasn't sure if he could believe it or not but according to the rumours going about every Elite student in the 2nd Year was a greater or lesser degree an Intermediate mage, some being able to cast intermediate magic and others not so much. His real focus was set on the top 5 students who were all able to not just cast intermediate magic, but Intermediate magic on both of their elements. All he needed now was to review his strategy and plan for what the ideal strength was for him to be when the time was right.

Sora didn't take long to get back to his dorm room and sat on his balcony in meditation as he formed stars and reviewed the data he had already gathered when he first heard of the challenge. The top 5 Elite students were truly something else for this current Era's standard, they all had Ridiculous awakenings for both elements and had special talents to back these already ridiculous elements:

Number 5 on the List was Han Yunji, Han Junjei's older cousin. He was currently an entry-level Intermediate mage who awakened the 'Dark red flames of Hell' fire element and 'Shaman King' Curse element; He could cast the intermediate spells of both elements and had the basic spells of both elements at the Perfected level. On top of all this his spells required half the mana that other mage's spells for the same effect, meaning that in cases where other Intermediate mages would have 15 basic spells and 5 intermediate spells in the tank, he would essentially have 30 basic spells and 10 intermediate spells in the tank making him one of the worst possible foes an academy student could make.

In 4th was Wei Han-Yue, Wei Xiren's Immediate older sister. She is an early stage Intermediate mage with 2 stars complete; she awakened the 'White fire of purity' fire element and the 'Greater Mind' space element. She had perfected the basic spells of both elements and could cast the 2nd stage of both elements' intermediate spells. Her special talent was that she could naturally partition her mind much easier than anyone in this generation and was the youngest triple caster of Magic in this generation being meagrely 17 years old.

The 3rd strongest student in the 2nd Year's Elite class was also an early-stage Intermediate mage, except she had 4 stars. She was Xiao Yaya; Xiao Feifei's cousin; She awakened the 'True Gaia' plant element and the 'Divine scourge' Poison element. Her special talent was her ability to create a Mana Domain. This was an area around her where the power, speed, and precision of her spells were tripled.

The second strongest student of the 2nd year Elite class was a foreign student named Xavier Sterling, he was a Late-stage Intermediate Magician with 9 stars complete. He awakened the 'Albright' Light element and the 'Eternal Night' Shadow element; His special talent was something that even Sora was worried about, he could seamlessly and naturally fuse spells of opposing nature without external assistance essentially turning him into a Yin-Yang magician with his current elemental build.

Lastly, the strongest Student in the 2nd Year Elite class was Xavier's Older brother, Marcus Sterling. He was a Half-step Advanced Magician who recently awakened his third element. He had awakened the 'Divine Will' Space element, the soul element with his spirit beast being Pugilist, the race known for their martial arts prowess; and lastly, at the Advanced level, he had awakened the 'Greater Sage' Psychic element. He had perfected his first two elements at the intermediate level and had perfected his first element at the Basic level waiting to break it through to the advanced level. His special talent was that his Spirit beast's strength would be equivalent to his level of magic. Now that he is an Advanced mage, he would have a Captain Class Pugilist for a spirit beast.

Regardless of what he could potentially achieve with basic magic, it is very near impossible for him to beat anyone from 5th to 2nd and it was outright impossible for him to beat Marcus at this level, especially with the equipment, armour, and weapons the 2nd year Elite student would have access to.
