Chapter 286 - Are They Humans?

“These are humans, right? Aren’t they?” Dean Atchison was startled after clearly seeing the appearance of those beings.

He hadn’t found the human remains and bones earlier particularly scary, but these creatures, which seemed to be human-like, were giving off such a creepy vibe.

“I think they look like living corpses! Their clothes are filthy and torn. No human could tolerate this, right?” Sheila also found it disgusting.

“They wear clothes, so they should be intelligent creatures. But the way they look at us… it’s as if we’re prey. There’s something really wrong about them,” Hua Deli frowned and analyzed.

Hebrew Adam glanced at Ruo Manni and saw her frowning, staring at those creatures with a very grim expression. Her eyes were full of an indescribable melancholy, but she wasn’t crying. He secretly sighed in relief. He had never seen Ruo Manni cry, and he was always afraid of seeing her cry again.

“This world has writing and mechanical vehicles, so humans shouldn’t be like this. These creatures don’t seem to have reason, just the instinct to hunt. And they have crystal cores in their brains, which only mutated creatures have. Aside from their appearance, they’re similar to the animal we killed in the mountains,” Hebrew Adam analyzed, furrowing his brow.

“They move so slowly and still dare to attack us,” Sheila said with a tone full of disdain.

“We’re new here, so it’s better to be cautious. These creatures’ situation is unclear, so everyone should stay away from them. We absolutely can’t let them catch or bite us,” Ruo Manni said.

The group easily managed to shake off those ten or so corpse-like humanoid creatures, but as they continued walking, they encountered more and more of these human-like beings.

The elite group began to suspect, and Dean Atchison even said, “Could it be that the humans in this world are like this?”

“Do you think these creatures could write? Could they make mechanical tools?” Ruo Manni said without looking back.

Dean Atchison was stumped by his cousin’s question. It was obvious to anyone that these human-like beings didn’t even seem to have intelligence. How could they possibly create those things?

“We’re new here and know nothing about this place. Why are you in such a hurry? At least Manni can read the writing of this world. We can take our time and figure things out,” Hua Deli gave his cousin a cold look.

The weak and helpless cousin, in front of the strong cousin and cousin-in-law, had no choice but to comply and dared not speak up again.

Just then, the elite group heard two different types of sounds coming from the direction of the city. One was a continuous noise, and the other was sharp and abrupt.

“Everyone be careful. Real humans may have come out,” Ruo Manni said seriously.

Soon, the elite group saw five mechanical vehicles driving out from the direction of the city. The continuous noise was coming from these vehicles.

“The technology in this world is really backward. These mechanical vehicles make such a loud noise when they’re moving,” Dean Atchison couldn’t help but complain.

Ruo Manni ignored him because she noticed that something was chasing the cars from behind.

Using her telekinetic powers to “look” at the people inside the vehicles, Ruo Manni focused on the last two vehicles and carefully observed them. Then, she “looked” at the wolf-like creatures, about the size of lions, closely pursuing the cars. They were getting closer and closer.

Inside the city, due to obstacles, the wolf-like creatures couldn’t catch up with the cars right away. But once they left the city and entered the open countryside, the cars accelerated, but it was obvious that the five wolves were faster.

Soon, one of the wolves leapt onto the last car, causing the car’s front end to tilt. However, the car remained sturdy and continued to drive forward. But with that slight delay, another wolf caught up and flipped the car over.

The other cars ahead kept driving without looking back, while the remaining three wolves continued to chase them.

“We need to go help,” Ruo Manni said urgently as the last car flipped over, pulling out her sword and rushing forward.

The elite group wasn’t far from these people—at most about a thousand meters away. With their speed, it would take them only about a minute to reach them.

Ruo Manni’s speed when she ran was faster than the cars, and with her companions quickly reacting and following behind, they were right on her heels.

Although they knew that the last car had been flipped over, the people in the lead car hesitated, wondering whether to go back and help.

The driver of the car, seeing a group of exceptionally handsome young men and women running quickly in the opposite direction, almost drove the car into the roadside ditch.

“Wow, are these people even human?” As the first car passed by them, Ruo Manni heard an astonished exclamation from inside the car.

The drivers of the second and third cars, seeing the elite group running at full speed, couldn’t control themselves and ended up driving their cars into the ditch.

The fourth car was in danger as the wolf-like creatures chasing them began to ram into the car’s rear, causing them to lose balance and also end up in the ditch.

However, this car was luckier. By this time, Ruo Manni had already reached their side, and the wolf dogs naturally shifted their focus to her, leaving the car.

Then the people inside the car saw the young and beautiful girl, her sword slashing through the air a few times. The wolf dog that had pounced on her fell to the ground and was cleaved into three pieces.

The twenty or so people in the five cars couldn’t even handle one wolf dog, yet this girl effortlessly cut it into three pieces…

Not only was the girl powerful, but the blonde young man following her also made his move. Another wolf dog was swiftly hacked into several pieces.

One more wolf dog, seeing the situation turning bad, cleverly turned around and jumped to the roadside to escape.

Ruo Manni and the others didn’t pursue the fleeing wolf dog but instead rushed toward the overturned car.

Two wolf dogs were attacking the flipped car, clearly trying to dismantle it and drag the people inside out. They hadn’t yet noticed that their companions had fallen into the hands of these people.

One wolf dog, upon seeing Ruo Manni charging toward them, immediately changed its target and pounced on her group, but its fate was the same: it was cleaved into several pieces.

The other wolf dog, slightly slower to react, quickly turned and ran when it saw the situation was hopeless.

Ruo Manni didn’t chase after the wolf dog, but instead walked over to the overturned car. She glanced back at Hebrew Adam.

Without needing to speak, Hebrew Adam, with a perfect understanding, reached out his hand, and together they flipped the car back onto its wheels. Then, they stood to the side, watching the people inside the car.

Soon, the people inside opened the deformed car doors and staggered out.

The first to get out was a young man, the driver of the car. Although he had a bloody face from a head injury, the elite group could clearly see that this man was completely different from the strange people they had encountered earlier. Not to mention anything else, just the look in his eyes made it obvious that he was entirely different.

“Thank you for saving us, we are deeply grateful,” the young man said with sincere gratitude.

However, due to the shock, his speech was somewhat stuttered.
