Calculating My Way To Immortality

Chapter 66: Gangs

Two days later, Yu Tian and Xueling sat together sharing tea as they discussed sect matters.

Over the past two days, things had moved quite quickly in the sect.

The integration of the other four sects was almost complete.

The Silver Moon Sect was helping with light administrative work alongside the other sect masters, which made things easier.

Apart from the Silver Moon Sect, which had willingly surrendered, the other sects' members had difficulty accepting the situation. This was easily solved with a few good examples, which caused the others to stay in line.

At the moment, the Silver Moon Sect master was the only elder and had a pavilion of her own.

Her sect's disciples were also members of the inner sect and were treated well.

As for the other sects, their leaders were not elders but were Xueling's direct subordinates.

Although this looked like a higher position, it didn't really mean much.

These were just personal relations which meant nothing in a sect - without a proper title like elder or dean, they had zero authority.

Their sect members became members of the outer sect.

Those with low cultivation worked as servants, while those with higher cultivation were treated like normal outer disciples, though they still needed to fulfill a certain number of tasks daily to maintain their position.

Although this seemed unfair, Xueling had done this purposefully to show them that those who are willing to bend are treated better. This worked to not only punish those four sects who decided to attack, but also to reward those who chose not to.

Besides, this arrangement was not absolute. There were systems in place by Yu Tian to make sure that everyone had a chance for advancement. If there was truly no hope to change one's position, problems would arise sooner or later.

The current arrangement worked through sect points. By gathering sect points from completing sect tasks, anyone could change their position. The servants could become outer disciples, the outer disciples could become inner disciples.

Before long, there wouldn't be a barrier anymore.

Although Yu Tian realized that there was bound to be scheming when putting such a large group of 'wronged' people together, he didn't think it would be that much of a problem. In fact, he was hoping it would happen fast so Xueling could cement her influence even more by using them as examples.

Although some schemers would still remain, they just needed to continue rewarding those who did well and punish those who didn't. Eventually, the groups would be split apart when they witnessed their fellows being rewarded despite starting at the same position.

Before long, the old relations would fall apart and they would slowly be integrated into the new Snow Heaven Sect.

Yu Tian took a sip of his tea and observed Xueling.

He noted that she was improving well, although she had yet to break through to the sixth layer.

As for him, his water element had finally advanced to the seventh layer and the other four elements had also advanced to the third grade. He wasn't so worried about his cultivation at the moment since they had quite a few riches after swallowing the other sects.

If they took out some spirit stones and even sold off some stuff they didn't particularly need, it should be enough for him to cultivate to the Core Formation realm and even enough for Xueling to go to the ultimate peak of Core Formation.

Xueling slowly put down her cup, her hands trembling slightly.

She wondered why he was looking at her so intently. Was something wrong with her face? Was it her hair? Her eyes began darting to the side.

"What will you do?" Yu Tian spoke.

"Huh?" she asked in confusion.

"About the gangs," Yu Tian said.

"Oh yeah." She quickly composed herself upon hearing this. Her face then became serious and she reached for her sword. "Annihilate them completely," she said with determination.

Yu Tian covered his face with his palm, sighing.

"Is that bad?" she asked.

She thought to herself that aside from the five sects that ruled over this region, there were also gangs. Although they had smaller influence compared to the sects, they were also dangerous as they didn't follow any rules and could cause problems.

For example, if an envoy from another sect came to deliver goods to them, it would be really bad for both sides if a gang intercepted. Since it was their territory, it could strain relations.

That's why she needed to get rid of them.

"Well, not necessarily," Yu Tian said. "If it was a normal sect, I'd also recommend you get rid of them." Yu Tian said.

Xueling paid attention.

"But you want to be an emperor, right?" he asked.

She nodded.

"Then you need to learn how to coexist with the black and gray areas," he said.

"Black and gray areas?" she asked.

"It'll be hard to completely get rid of the gangs," he began. "If you do, the remnants will come for revenge. And if you get rid of those too, some other power will emerge to replace them," he said.

"So what do you suggest I do?" Xueling asked. To her, this wasn't really a problem. She didn't mind eradicating them every time they came back.

"How about this - instead of eliminating them, why don't you bring them under you?" Yu Tian suggested.

"You want me to become a gang leader?" she asked.

Yu Tian just smiled. "The gangs control things like the black market. It won't be good for you to get into this kind of thing, so you can use them instead," Yu Tian said. "And since they won't be officially affiliated with you, you can even develop it into your own independent intelligence network," Yu Tian said.

Xueling nodded. This sounded like a good idea. Information was also important. "Sounds good. Let's do that," she said.

She then glanced at him. "What about you?" she asked.

"What about me?" he echoed her question.

"The grand elder seat is still open," she said.

"Not interested," Yu Tian said flatly.

"I know, you don't like the responsibilities, right?" she said, though she wondered why.

He was pretty much doing all the work of the grand elder - he just lacked the position. She smiled. Well, this worked out for her. It would be strange if the grand elder and the sect master got married...
