Chapter 6: The Path To Heaven, Inner Core
"Where do we start?" Yu Tian asked, standing at the cave entrance.
He turned around to look at Lady Su for orders.
Before she could speak, her stomach suddenly growled loudly.
She covered her face in embarrassment, causing Yu Tian to smile awkwardly. "I also haven't eaten anything in a while. Why don't we start with food?" he asked. She just nodded her head, still hiding her face behind her hands.
Yu Tian left the cave, not wanting to make her feel more uncomfortable. What if she suddenly got the urge to erase all evidence of this embarrassing moment? Still, he hadn't thought Lady Su was this sort of person.
She always appeared so serious and composed, yet she could be quite bashful sometimes too.
He looked around and began using his calculation ability.
But first, he didn't look for food - instead, he searched for a secluded location.
After finding a safe, hidden place, he sat down in a meditative posture and turned his senses inward, observing himself carefully.
He thought to himself that things had happened so fast he hadn't had the time to properly inspect himself and see what exactly had occurred.
He noticed the core below his dantian. Although it had formed, he still didn't understand how this had happened. People below the core formation realm weren't supposed to be able to form a core at all, so what was up with this?
"Do I have a unique constitution?" he asked.
[0%] the number displayed.
He didn't think so either, so then why? Could it be... the method he had used?
The number shifted to one hundred percent.
That's right! Just like before, when the qi was threatening to tear him apart, using the method of following the path with the highest success rate had led to calming the qi despite being a body refining cultivator.
It was the same with the core - since he had followed the path with the most chances of success, he had succeeded.
His eyes brightened. Didn't this practically mean that he didn't need any martial techniques or scriptures? After all, he could just follow the path with the most chances of success. He clenched his fist. It seemed his calculation ability was quite overpowered.
"I'll name this method 'The Path To Heaven,'" he decided.
This was a method that only he could use. It relied on him calculating the best possible path and using it to circulate his energy.
He looked at his core. Even though he had gained a core, he still couldn't handle qi effectively as a body refining cultivator. He raised his palm and fire sparked to life. It allowed him to use internal energy more easily though.
Usually, body refining cultivators won't use elemental powers since their internal energy is limited, and it would be a waste to use it all on elemental abilities that won't deal that much damage anyway.
It was much better to use it to enhance the body and weapons.
But for him, this wouldn't be a problem anymore since he had a core that could store all his internal energy.
"I'll call it the inner core from now on," he thought.
He then relaxed his body and began to circulate his internal energy, following the Path To Heaven. As he continuously circulated his energy, he felt more and more at ease. Eventually, he lost his sense of self as he became completely immersed in cultivation.
…
Yu Tian's eyes slowly snapped open.
He exhaled deeply, slowly regaining his sense of self.
Suddenly, he realized what had just happened.
"Oh no, I forgot about Lady Su!" he thought.
He looked up, noticing the sun almost reaching its summit. He had left at dawn and it was almost noon now. He needed to get back fast. No, he needed to find food first, he thought, rising to his feet.
As he rose to his feet, he felt that his body was surprisingly light. Could he have broken through again?
[100%] the number showed.
He jumped in joy. This ability was really great! He had been stuck in the third layer of body refining for years, but now he had more than doubled that, standing proudly at the seventh layer of body refining. Just two layers away from being able to use a qi gathering pill.
"Right, food," he reminded himself.
Looking in all directions, he wondered which one had the highest chance of finding food with the least amount of danger. When he did the calculation, his face transformed into confusion. Why did the calculation say that this place he was currently at had a hundred percent chance of getting food?
As he was thinking this, he heard a loud noise coming from behind him. He jumped and landed atop a tree branch. From this point, he saw a group of animals running in his direction.
"Wild boars?" he wondered aloud.
[100%] the calculation showed.
"No need to calculate that," he thought, shaking his head. Though he admitted that maybe it wasn't so bad. What if it was a wild beast that looked like a boar?
"Wait... wild beast?" His expression turned to that of panic.
For this group to be running like this, they must be running from something. He needed to get out of here.
He jumped down, landing on one of the wild boars and taking it out instantly.
He then picked it up and ran with it without looking back.
The boar was about eighty kilograms heavy. If it was the previous Yu Tian, he would have had trouble lifting it, let alone running around with it. But now, he could barely feel the weight as he ran.
…
Su Xueling turned to her side once again.
She wondered where Yu Tian had gone. Had he really left her and run off? she wondered.
No, she had to believe in him. This was the Black Forest, maybe he had come across a monster and had to hide and lost his way. She couldn't bring herself to think of the last option. If he was really dead, then she would probably follow him soon.
As she was thinking of this, she heard a few vibrations through the ground. Someone was running toward this direction. She struggled to get up, looking at the cave entrance. With effort, she reached for her sword.
She heard someone running and then stopping near the cave entrance. The person then slowly began walking toward the entrance.
"Yu Tian? Is that you?" she asked cautiously.
"Who else could it be?" Yu Tian said as he appeared in the cave entrance.
Her eyes brightened upon hearing his voice. "Yu Tian, you really came back..."
