Chapter 30: The Sect Master
Yu Tian and Xueling sat opposite each other, their hands pressed together.
Xueling circulated her energy following Yu Tian's method.
As they did this, she thought to herself that she didn't understand it at all - it was that random method again. Every time she saw it, it was always random and didn't follow a specific pattern, but when she circulated her qi like this, it felt right.
Her earlier methods were simply too crude. Rather, they were made like that so they were easy to follow as they had hard-coded circulation patterns.
But Yu Tian's method seemed to change with every rotation, as if it was being calculated in real time.
Who could do such a thing?
She continued circulating her energy through the method, and before long, she felt her earlier violent energy begin to calm down. Slowly, it settled on her core and became much more stabilized.
She slowly opened her eyes. Yu Tian did the same, and the two pulled their hands apart.
Xueling looked at herself, scanning her body. She thought to herself that this was really incredible - her cultivation had been completely stabilized. She had even broken through to the second layer of Core Formation.
She looked at Yu Tian with bright eyes, but he immediately shot her down before she could even ask.
"Don't even think about it," he said. "I won't practice with you next time. I need to practice my mind realm. The faster I think, the stronger I am," he explained.
She thought to herself that that made sense. From what she had seen before and from his method just now, it seemed he did all sorts of calculations to determine the best possible path for cultivation. If that was the case, then it was better if he cultivated his mind rather than her cultivating her realm.
She thought to herself that now that they had defeated the Grand Elder, the only person they had to worry about was the sect master, but she didn't think he'd openly attack her so there was no need to worry about him. The other elders and core disciples had not yet reached the late stage Core Formation like the Grand Elder, so they should be fairly easy to handle.
On the other hand, if Yu Tian upgraded his mind, then he would be able to do even more calculations at a time and improve his circulation method, perfecting it even more. She really wished to try it when it got to that level.
As she was thinking of this, Yu Tian got up. "The sun is already rising. We should get moving," he said.
Xueling got up and stretched her limbs. Her body then suddenly let out a small qi pulse that covered her entire body in a golden glow before disappearing. She looked at Yu Tian smugly, who seemed to be surprised by this.
"Are you interested? It's qi purification. I can teach it to you," she said excitedly.
"No need," he said. A faint golden glow appeared on his hands before spreading all over his body. "So cultivators use this to wash. It's quite refreshing," he thought.
"I almost forgot he has divine-grade enlightenment and can replicate it just by seeing it once," she thought.
…
Yu Tian looked at his body. He thought to himself that it was the first time he had used his ability like this. After helping Xueling stabilize her cultivation, he had learned so much about qi pathways by observing them. When he saw her use the ability, he vaguely saw how the qi was circulated and used his calculation to eliminate doubts and recreate the ability.
He wondered if he could use this in battle to instantly learn the opponent's moves and counter them. He shook his head - it probably wasn't possible. He couldn't see it all that clearly and had to use his calculation ability most of the time to eliminate the noise.
It's just that the qi purification technique was such a basic method that he learned it so quickly.
In a real fight, the methods used are much more complicated and can't be replicated just like that. And that's without considering the fact that he would also be using his mind to calculate the opponent's moves. It seemed this was a dead end. For now, that is...
If he could increase his mind level, not only would his processing power increase, he would also acquire spiritual sense. With spiritual sense, he could more accurately read the flow of qi and thus not use the calculation ability to finish the path, saving him time.
He could then use that to recreate the method. And with the increased processing power, he should be able to still calculate the opponent's moves while still doing that.
Xueling and Yu Tian then flew on a sword towards the Drifting Cloud Sect.
They were finally returning after so long. Well, it had only been about three days, but it really felt like it'd been ages.
As they flew, Yu Tian spoke up. "You left without talking to your new subordinate?" he asked.
"I already instructed her the day before," she replied.
Yu Tian thought to himself that she seemed to be quite good in this aspect. She definitely had the bearing of a leader. Not that he would know - after all, he was just a servant a few days ago.
"What will you do when you return to the sect?" he asked.
"Just practice," she said. She then clutched her fist. "I'm still not strong enough yet," she said.
"Are you after the sect master?" he asked.
She was startled by this question, almost losing control of the flying sword.
"Hey, watch out!" Yu Tian called out.
After she stabilized the flying, she asked, "How did you know?"
Yu Tian smiled. "You aren't even denying it."
"Uh... well," she became flustered.
"Well, you said that you're still not strong enough. Since you've already beaten the Grand Elder, who else could you be weak against?" Yu Tian reasoned.
"I see, so it was my slip up," she said.
"Aren't you going to kill me?" Yu Tian asked.
"Why would I do that?" she asked.
"To get rid of evidence," he said teasingly.
"There's no need to do that," she replied with a smile.
"You're not afraid I'll rat you out to the sect master and receive rewards?" he asked.
She sighed. "Yu Tian, you're really obsessed with numbers, right?" she asked.
"I guess so," he said.
"Then tell me this... what are the chances you survive after I die?" she asked.
Yu Tian smiled.
