“Building a Top-tier Safehouse in the Apocalypse”

Chapter 3: Shopping and hoarding goods

Zhang Yi treated Fang Yuqing with extreme indifference.

Fang Yuqing and Lin Caining also noticed that something was off.

However, after mistakenly believing that Zhang Yi was a hidden second-generation rich kid, the two of them not only refrained from being upset about Zhang Yi's attitude but even took the initiative to approach him.

What's wrong with a rich person having a bit of an attitude? That's called having style!

"Hey, Zhang Yi, were you eating at this restaurant just now?"

Lin Caining pretended to ask casually.

Zhang Yi frowned slightly. This woman was no good either, just as bad as Fang Yuqing.

Back then, she had a hand in tricking him out of food and even played a part in getting him killed.

"Yeah."

Zhang Yi replied coldly, then stuck his hands in his pockets and turned to walk toward the supermarket.

Fang Yuqing and Lin Caining quickly followed him.

"Zhang Yi, where are you going?" Fang Yuqing asked with a gentle smile.

"To the supermarket," Zhang Yi replied, his tone still cold, with a hint of impatience.

If it weren't for his desire to let her experience the despair of the apocalypse, Zhang Yi would have killed her right then and there.

Fang Yuqing exchanged a glance with Lin Caining and said, "What a coincidence, we were planning to buy some things too. Let's go together!"

Zhang Yi quickly understood.

They must have seen him dining at a Michelin three-star restaurant and mistakenly assumed he was a hidden rich kid.

That's why they were suddenly so enthusiastic about him.

He couldn't be bothered to say anything to them and headed straight for the supermarket.

But the more aloof he acted, the more convinced Fang Yuqing and Lin Caining became that he was a rich kid.

Otherwise, how could he afford to be so dismissive?

The two followed closely behind him, with Fang Yuqing even brushing up against Zhang Yi from time to time, occasionally pretending to be shy and blushing when Zhang Yi looked her way.

Zhang Yi sneered inwardly.

Green tea girl, you're quite the actress. If you went into acting, you'd probably win an Oscar.

Zhang Yi entered the supermarket, grabbed a shopping cart, and started walking inside.

Fang Yuqing and Lin Caining quickly grabbed their own carts and followed him.

"Zhang Yi, were you eating with someone just now?" Fang Yuqing asked with a smile.

Heading toward the food section, Zhang Yi responded coldly, "Can't I eat by myself?"

Fang Yuqing's eyes lit up. "Oh, I didn't mean it that way. It's just that the food there is so expensive. I thought maybe you were treating someone to dinner!"

Lin Caining couldn't help but ask, "Zhang Yi, isn't your monthly salary just over 10,000 yuan? A meal like that would cost you six months' wages. Looks like your family must've left you a lot of money."

Fang Yuqing shot Lin Caining a glare.

Idiot, how can you say such things out loud?

As a top-tier green tea girl, the golden rule is: Talk emotions with the rich, talk money with the poor.

Realizing her mistake, Lin Caining quickly tried to cover it up.

"Haha, I was just joking. We're all friends here, so money doesn't really matter."

Zhang Yi ignored them entirely.

He walked into the food section and looked at the shelves stocked with goods, feeling like he had entered a treasure trove.

In his previous life, he had experienced the misery of surviving on a single pack of instant noodles for two days.

So, food held a special significance for him.

Without hesitation, Zhang Yi started loading his cart with food—instant noodles, sausages, self-heating hot pots, and condiments—all in bulk.

This scene left Fang Yuqing and Lin Caining stunned.

"Zhang Yi, why are you buying so much food? Are you going camping?"

"Yeah."

Zhang Yi replied briefly.

Lin Caining became suspicious and whispered to Fang Yuqing, "Would a rich kid eat this kind of stuff while camping?"

Fang Yuqing was also puzzled but didn't want to give up the idea of Zhang Yi being a rich kid, especially after seeing him dine at a Michelin-starred restaurant.

She approached Zhang Yi eagerly. "Need any help?"

With free labor at hand, Zhang Yi had no reason to refuse.

Plus, seeing Fang Yuqing's fake innocent smile sparked a vengeful idea in his mind.

He had one month to prepare for the apocalypse.

Building a secure shelter and ensuring his safety was not difficult.

For supplies, he could always raid the Walmart warehouse.

This would allow him to live comfortably and safely during the apocalypse.

Why not let Fang Yuqing know he was stockpiling supplies and watch her beg for mercy later?

As for her leaking his plans to his nosy neighbors, Zhang Yi wasn't worried.

If his safehouse was sturdy enough, he could even turn the tables on those neighbors.

Just imagining their frustrated, helpless faces brought a twisted smile to Zhang Yi's lips.

He decided to contact a security company to construct such a safehouse.

If that wasn't feasible, he'd find a remote wilderness spot to build an underground shelter.

This way, he'd have a backup plan.

With a smirk, Zhang Yi said, "Alright, you can help me push the cart."

Fang Yuqing eagerly agreed.

Zhang Yi then asked Lin Caining to fetch another cart.

Although the two women were filled with suspicion, they did as they were told.

Zhang Yi bought a large amount of non-perishable food, including instant noodles, sausages, cured meat, and canned goods.

He also filled a cart with fresh meat, fruits, vegetables, and live fish to test whether his spatial ability could preserve fresh items effectively.

The three carts were filled to the brim. Zhang Yi assigned the cart loaded with heavy items like canned goods and meat to the two women, who struggled under the weight but dared not complain.

Fang Yuqing pouted. "Zhang Yi, this is so much food. How many people are going to eat this? Are you planning something you haven't told me about?"

Zhang Yi sneered and said, "Who knows? What if the apocalypse comes one day? I'd better stock up."

He was telling the truth, but no one would believe it.

Fang Yuqing assumed he was joking and laughed. "Alright, if you don't want to tell me, that's fine. But since I've helped you so much today, you owe me a meal!"

Her eyes sparkled with expectation, hoping Zhang Yi would take her to a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Zhang Yi smirked. "Sure, but I'm busy lately. Let's do it next month."

"Deal!" Fang Yuqing said happily.

Lin Caining chimed in, "Great! Let's all go together!"

Helping push a cart in exchange for a fancy meal? She was thrilled.

Fang Yuqing shot Lin Caining another glare, but Lin pretended not to notice.

Zhang Yi checked out, spending over 10,000 yuan on supplies without batting an eye.

In the apocalypse, these supplies would be worth tens of thousands of times their current value—practically priceless.

Since Zhang Yi's purchase was so large, the supermarket staff willingly lent him the carts to transport his goods.

He made full use of the free labor, making the women push the carts back to his apartment complex.

Though the two women complained about being tired, the promise of a fancy meal kept them motivated.

And so, the three of them pushed the carts full of supplies back to the neighborhood.
