"Cousin, you're up! Today is the Alchemist Grand Meeting, held only once every eight years. Since you're here in the capital, you can't miss this spectacle!" Upon seeing Mo Yu appear, Xiao Yan smiled and gestured towards the alchemists bustling down the street.

Following Xiao Yan's gaze, Mo Yu nodded slightly and chuckled. "Heh, such a grand event is truly rare. I wouldn't miss it for the world.

"Besides, I've heard from Ya Fei that you, cousin, will be participating. As your older cousin, I have to come cheer you on. Who knows, maybe the champion of this Alchemist Grand Meeting will emerge from the Xiao clan."

Hearing Mo Yu's confident tone, Xiao Yan was taken aback for a moment, then gave a wry smile.

The title of champion in the Alchemist Grand Meeting was the dream of countless alchemists, a supreme honor. But Xiao Yan had only been practicing alchemy for a few years. Even with Yao Lao's meticulous guidance, he couldn't confidently say he could defeat the many formidable competitors.

He couldn't understand why his cousin Mo Yu seemed to believe in him so completely.

It wasn't a superficial compliment or idle encouragement—Mo Yu's conviction seemed to stem from the core of his being, as if he truly believed Xiao Yan was destined for success.

Ignoring Xiao Yan's doubts, Mo Yu turned to the elderly man standing to the side, smiling. "You must be the Dou Huang master Ya Fei mentioned, accompanying Xiao Yan."

As Mo Yu's words fell, the white-haired old man turned from the window, his sharp gaze locking onto the young man. An invisible pressure emanated from him, so intense that even a Dou Ling cultivator would feel a sense of dread.

However, this overwhelming aura was met with nothing but calm indifference from Mo Yu, as if it were as trivial as a breeze.

"Oh?" Hai Bodong's eyes gleamed with surprise.

Among the younger generation he had encountered, Xiao Yan was the most enigmatic. Yet today, it seemed another remarkable youth had appeared before him.

He recalled Xiao Yan mentioning that he had a talented cousin with extraordinary strength, but Hai Bodong hadn't paid much attention. Now, however, he was beginning to believe it.

"So you're Mo Yu, the one who eliminated the Mo clan," Hai Bodong said thoughtfully. "Even when I was in seclusion, I heard about that incident, which spread across the empire at the time.

"It's truly remarkable that both you and Xiao Yan come from the same family. Who would've thought that such a small clan could produce two prodigies?"

Retracting his aura, Hai Bodong's expression shifted from stern to intrigued as he examined Mo Yu closely.

Xiao Yan's talents were unquestionable. After spending so much time with the boy, Hai Bodong had become increasingly impressed by his capabilities.

Unaware of Yao Lao's presence within Xiao Yan, Hai Bodong both respected the young man for his skill and relied on him for assistance with the Revival Purple Pill.

Yet now, faced with Mo Yu's unperturbed demeanor, Hai Bodong found himself once again in awe. A fleeting thought crossed his mind—could the Xiao family of Wu Tan City be a hidden powerhouse?

"Junior Mo Yu greets Elder Hai," Mo Yu said, cupping his hands respectfully. "I've long admired your reputation."

While Dou Qi Continent had no rigid distinctions between good and evil, Mo Yu had always respected Hai Bodong's character.

After all, the old man had risked his life to protect Xiao Yan when the Yun Lan Sect sought to kill him. That kind of loyalty deserved respect.

"Ha! No need for formalities," Hai Bodong chuckled. "Xiao Yan has been a great help to me, so there's no need to stand on ceremony."

Seeing the cordial interaction between the two, Xiao Yan's expression became complicated.

He knew Hai Bodong to be a proud and aloof Dou Huang. Even Xiao Yan himself had only earned the old man's cooperation thanks to Yao Lao's influence.

Yet here Hai Bodong was, chatting amicably with Mo Yu as if they were old friends.

This unexpected development only deepened Xiao Yan's belief that his cousin was far more extraordinary than he appeared.

The two continued their conversation, and though Mo Yu was technically the junior, his knowledge and demeanor far exceeded his age.

In no time, both Mo Yu and Hai Bodong felt as though they had known each other for years.

"Haha, Brother Mo, your understanding of geography and ice-based techniques is astounding! I can't help but wonder what kind of family could nurture someone as learned as you." Hai Bodong laughed heartily.

Mo Yu gave a faint smile.

His ability to adapt to different people was a skill honed in his previous life.

Although Hai Bodong was eccentric, he had his own interests. Once Mo Yu identified a shared topic, striking up a conversation became easy.

One of Hai Bodong's greatest passions was cartography, which explained why Xiao Yan had encountered him in a map shop.

Having traveled extensively in his past life, Mo Yu was well-versed in various landscapes and terrains, making him an engaging conversationalist on the subject.

As for ice-based techniques, while Mo Yu didn't possess ice-manipulating abilities himself, he had encountered many powerful ice practitioners in his previous life. His insights left Hai Bodong feeling as if he had stumbled upon a long-lost treasure.

If the room were not so small, Hai Bodong might have immediately tried some of the new techniques Mo Yu had suggested.

"Well, it's about time we head out…" Xiao Yan, who had been observing the two, finally spoke with a helpless smile.

The sight of his eccentric protector chatting so animatedly with his cousin left Xiao Yan both surprised and exasperated.

He had experienced firsthand how difficult Hai Bodong could be, and yet here he was, treating Mo Yu like an old friend.

And the knowledge Mo Yu had shared—it was something even Yao Lao had never mentioned before.

In just a few moments, Xiao Yan felt as though he had glimpsed an entirely new side of his enigmatic cousin.

"Haha, today is Xiao Yan's big day! Brother Hai, let's continue this conversation later and go cheer for my cousin." Mo Yu clapped his hands and grinned.

"Haha, very well! Once we get to the Royal Plaza, let's find a good spot to continue our discussion. The opening rounds of the Alchemist Grand Meeting aren't that exciting anyway. Besides, with Xiao Yan's skill, victory is well within reach."

Hai Bodong waved dismissively, then gave Mo Yu a look filled with admiration, as if he had discovered a hidden gem.

After decades of mastering ice techniques, he had thought himself at the forefront of the field. Yet Mo Yu's insights made him feel like a novice again, sparking a newfound thirst for knowledge.

Hai Bodong could hardly wait to continue their conversation—if possible, he would gladly spend the next three days and nights discussing everything with Mo Yu.

Seeing Hai Bodong's eager expression, almost like a starving wolf eyeing its prey, Mo Yu couldn't help but give a bitter smile. He merely thought Hai Bodong was a decent person and had hoped to make a friend.

Unexpectedly, it seemed he had tried too hard, and now the old man treated him like a confidant. Things had escalated far beyond his expectations...

"Let's head to the Royal Plaza first. We can't delay Xiao Yan's assessment," Mo Yu said with a helpless smile.

Leaving the room and descending from the inn, they were greeted by a bustling street. The alchemists, once rare and elusive, could now be seen everywhere on this particular day.

What surprised Mo Yu was how unexpectedly quiet Hai Bodong became once they stepped outside. The eccentric old man, usually so talkative, was oddly calm in the face of the crowd.

After about fifteen minutes of walking, the Royal Plaza—the venue for the Alchemist Gathering—gradually came into view. As Mo Yu peered into the distance, he could only catch a glimpse of the massive plaza's edge, which looked like the tip of an iceberg.

Outside the plaza, fully armed troops were stationed to maintain order. With countless powerful individuals gathered from all directions, any disturbance could have disastrous consequences for the imperial capital. The Jia Ma Royal Family took no chances and ensured that security was airtight.

At the entrance, inspectors from the Alchemist Association stood in place, checking participants' documents. Only registered competitors and guild members were allowed entry through the main gate, while a separate entrance was designated for spectators.

With Xiao Yan's competition documents in hand, Mo Yu and the group encountered no obstacles and smoothly passed through the gate. They walked up a long ramp leading into the venue, and soon, the enormous plaza revealed itself fully before Mo Yu's eyes.

Standing at the top of the slope, Mo Yu gazed at the vast, nearly unbelievable expanse of the stone-paved plaza. He couldn't help but shake his head in amazement.

"When will craftsmen like me get such a grand competition to flaunt our skills? I'd love to put on a show too," Mo Yu muttered wistfully.

The circular plaza was lined with numerous seating areas on both sides, presumably for the general audience. Opposite the common seats were lavishly decorated VIP chairs, reserved for high-ranking guild officials and the leaders of major powers within the imperial capital.

Just as Mo Yu and the group entered the venue, an elderly voice called out from behind them.

"Xiao Yan, you've arrived!"

Hearing the call, the group turned to see an old man in a violet robe seated comfortably, calling out Xiao Yan's name.

"Oh? That's Qie Mi Er, the Vice President of the Alchemist Association. I'm surprised the old coot is still alive…" Hai Bodong murmured beside Mo Yu, his words carrying a hint of sarcasm.

Mo Yu's eyebrows twitched slightly at this revelation. He hadn't expected his actions to create a butterfly effect, leading Xiao Yan to connect with such a prominent figure.

And not just anyone, but Qie Mi Er—the current Vice President of the Alchemist Association.

In response, Mo Yu could only smile and sigh inwardly. As expected of the child of fate.
