Broken world - Apollyon (A TWD X SCP fanfic)

Chapter 4: Chapter 4 - Danger

King County, 17th October 2024.

Unknown forest near the main city, 2 PM.

Luther was standing around the MRAP, silently staring at the map they had used to move around and mark the important spots. Until now, they had successfully marked over 12 spots with important supplies/equipment. Later on, they would send regular people to collect these important assets. Luther exhaled as he thought about the situation. He had informed Site Overwatch that these spots required pickup, so the operation was already going as they scouted. The fuel of the MRAP was now getting low, so they could only make it back to the Site. Left choiceless, Luther opted to go back to the Site.

"Gustavo, let's go back to the Site. We need to regroup and send our men outside once again, " Luther said seriously as he reattached the straps of his FAST helmet. "We'll take the normal road through the county. We can't afford to lose fuel, we're very tight right now. " Logan commented as he was cleaning his MK18, looking around.

"I've been thinking about something. At some point, we will face a scarcity of bullets, sir." Logan paused. "I think it's best to start teaching our people and regular soldiers to use more melee weapons to fight walkers." He finished.

"That'd be wise. But I do want to establish munition assembly plants. We cannot depend on scavenging and looting." Luther paused as he climbed to the back of the MRAP, joining the other soldier, Devin. "I agree with the Captain, sir. We cannot depend on firearms for zombies."

"Then I'll discuss it with the O5 council. After establishing Resh-1, I will discuss the survivors' training and their integration into the main group." Luther paused "I've thought about it, and we cannot have simple civilians just lying around, everyone has to work or know in a certain way. Be it farming, or scouting, they need to pull the weight of this organization."

"So when we get back, I'll get some people to train the regular survivors and people who need it." Luther said, "Alright, sir, if you're ready, let's go back home. We need to get there early if you wish to execute those plans." Gustavo said in a serious tone as he was sitting in a nearby fallen tree.

Luther nodded in agreement and boarded the MRAP. Devin and Logan quickly followed through, with Devin taking the seat of the Co-Pilot leaving his shotgun on the back. The car soon turned on and began making its way through the many roads of the county. Sometimes, they even ran over some of the walkers who stood in their way. But as they were turning on one of the many streets, they encountered a massive horde that was creeping upon one of the streets. Gustavo immediately put the vehicle into reverse and began accelerating backward. But they were met with another group of zombies, not as large as the one in front, but it was big enough to slow down the MRAP.

"Shit! We're stuck! Logan get on the 50!" Luther yelled as he picked up his MP7, unscrewing the suppressor as he wouldn't need it. Logan immediately followed through and began tearing down through the hordes of undead, a loud *Bang Bang* could be heard through the streets of the town, the massive vehicle machinegun had come to life and torn down through many of the walkers. But, as many rounds they sent, more walkers joined in the assault. Soon enough, they were utterly surrounded by them. Gustavo, in an attempt to survive, turned off the car's engine to avoid using extra fuel.

They all nervously stared around at the undead who surrounded the vehicle they were in, they were nervous, but they all knew that they could get out of this situation. Logan quickly stopped using the 50 cal and stared at his comrades, "What now?" was the question that echoed through everybody's mind. They all sat there nervously, everyone ready to fight for their lives. Although they were afraid, that wouldn't stop them from fighting for their lives and their beliefs. Some thought about using grenades, others about using the 50cal, but Luther suddenly spoke.

"I- I know something that might work. 008-1 infected personnel trace by using smell and sight, if we use some corpses as cover, they might not be able to identify us as prey." Luther said seriously "But we have a lot of supplies here, we cannot leave this heavily armed car here for anyone to take." Gustavo said as his hands pressed against the front wheel, ready to turn on the car and get the fuck away from this place.

"Then war it is. We have some AT4s and a couple of grenades, that shotgun of yours can be useful as well, Task Force Specialist." Luther said as he picked up the AA-12 and loaded it with another mag, and pointed it around. "Then sure. We can sweep the nearby ones and then use the AT4 for the further ones, crazy plan, but it can work." Logan said as he picked up an AT4 and armed it.

"Go for it, I'll be ready to get us the fuck out of here." Said Gustavo as he placed his hand on the gear lever, preparing to turn from P to R. "Alright, get ready!" Luther yelled as he pointed the AA-12 to the double doors behind the MRAP. "On the count of 3! 3! 2! 1!" He yelled as Logan opened the door on the count of 3.

*Bang bang bang bang*

Loud shotgun shots could be heard across the streets, as Luther discharged the powerful AA-12 onto the undead that were harassing the car. In those few moments, he had swept over 30 of them. Luther then reloaded, and as he did, he decided to give Logan the signal. Logan pointed the AT4 at the furthest zombie, then...

*BOOM!* An engulfing explosion resounded through the zombies around 30 meters away. In a moment, dozens were completely vaporized due to the powerful strength of the AT4, Logan and Luther were affected due to the sound but managed to close the back door. With a loud "Go!" Gustavo reacted and put the car in reverse. The crushing of many bones and organs could be heard, but it was utterly ignored. Logan quickly used the 50 cal as he tore down the zombies that were on their way, and in a blink, they were out of the dangerous situation. They only had minor damages due to the AT4s recoil, but nothing too heavy.

They all happily smiled as they drove to the Site, the MRAP was now tainted in blood. The humming of the engine passed through many of the roads of Georgia, and they all kept knowing each other through the travel. Somehow, this experience strengthened the bond between them.

Devin was a DEVGRU operative before he was recruited by the Foundation, he worked in Afghanistan before he joined the Omega-1, and was a normal guy with wavy black hair with brown eyes. Gustavo was a Hispanic male of Spanish descent, he used to belong to the Special Operations of the Spanish army before being turned in by the foundation.

They all shared stories of when they served, except Luther. Luther felt as if he was completely gifted to be there, hanging out with men so deadly they were considered the best of the best. But, he was just a regular college student. He had no real training or genuine certification, and he was leading expeditions and a powerful organization there. He wanted himself to train, learn, and possibly reach the level of these men who desperately wished to protect his life. He wanted to be independent, to be able to fend off for himself. He imagined what would have happened if he had been alone, he would have died in the situation they just encountered. Luther kept pondering throughout the travel until they saw some familiar fences and vehicles in the nearby distance.

...

Luther saw as his vehicle quickly approached the heavy gates of the compound. In Site-02, there was a medium-sized compound outside of the site's main entrance, in this compound, there was a garage, several quarters, armories, and other structures. But now, it was being expanded to accommodate the new vehicles and recruits that were slowly pouring in. It results that people kept seeing the compound, and some decided to valiantly approach the place, where they were met by guards. Luther had told Andre to let them in if this happened, but keep them in strong vigilance and immediately put them through training. As they approached, they were identified by the guards who let them through.

After unloading and parking the MRAP, Luther greeted everyone on the site and walked straight to the Site Overwatch. He received many salutes and shows of respect. The people of the Site kind of respected him now, especially the 30-ish survivors they accepted in the outer compound. Now, bigger walls were being built on the outsides of the camp to keep the undead outside of the Site.

Even if they managed to surpass the compound, the massive door of the main entrance would not let anybody unauthorized access it. Yes, there were other exits, but those were classified to certain personnel and were relatively hidden and secure; they could be sealed off to keep the main building clear.

Luther walked around the massive hallways of the Site, watching men from each department work on it. He had established the Departments once again, as well as the Levels. Which now ranged from 1 to 6. Levels of clearance varied to organize the entire place, as certain locations such as the armory required to be at least a level 3. Each department had their own ranks, to keep it all completely organized and neat.

As Luther stepped near one of the edges of the main map of the Overwatch room, he was joined by Andre and Erwin, who greeted him warmly. "Nice to see you're back, Luther. Anyway, what did you call us here for?" Erwin simply asked "It's to start pushing scout and exploration parties. I marked a map with several locations with some supplies we couldn't bring with us. Send some people with the Humvees." Luther said as he posed his arms in the table, looking at the USA.

"When we get enough, our next step will be the Atlanta airport." He said "If we get to the airport, we can establish a better degree of airpower and shelter. We have more space and places for our workshops, and about that." he slightly paused, now looking at Andre "I want to expand the site downwards. There are the light containment and heavy containment zones there, they're mostly empty and in a rough state, but we can place more rooms there."

"We need to make our own weapons. Especially firearms, which will be scarce later on. What I was thinking about is the power, until now, we have been able to be self-sufficient thanks to the generators that supposedly powered Heavy and Light as well, but once we use them for other purposes it will consume a shit ton of energy." Luther ended.

"So, we need to find a power station." Luther said, looking at Andre "Well, we could use King County power station. It's not far from here, and we can even mobilize helicopters for the operation." Luther allowed Andre to talk "It is plausible, I vote that we get the power station first. So we can turn off the generators, that have been running for far too long."

"Very well then. Erwin, mobilize some people from Omega 1 and send some of the recruits. It is important they get to learn to fight these things." Luther said, walking over to the stairs that led to his quarters. "That's you mission, Erwin. I will remain here, as I'm quite literally tired from this, haha." Luther said, walking upstairs.

Erwin was left there in silence as he thought about the situation. Andre had walked off as well, and now he would execute the mission he was given. Internally, he was quite anxious as they would be deploying alongside civilians or non-combatives. It was indeed true that they had to learn how to use weapons or how to act when in combat, as the new world would need everybody to pull their weight. It was possible they could be supported once more, but that was in a far future where 008 was no longer an issue.

Erwin walked through the bustly halls with his heavy armor as he wondered about many things. He seemed to remember one important detail about the end of the world- the anomalies. They had failed to consider that anomalies were still roaming, and some of them were terrifyingly dangerous to be left alone. SCPs such as SCP-173, 682, or 106 could break containment soon enough. They were dangerous- and they needed to localize them immediately. Those things were the biggest threats, not even the Chaos Insurgency or the Serpent's hand.

...

Luther was now sitting in his room, he had removed his gear that now was sitting in the corner of his room. Now, he switched to a plain T-shirt and some pants. It was not that late, but he wanted to sleep in his bed, as he slept on some seats for the past 3 days.

'I need to evaluate my choices. I can send in some exploration teams to recover the weapons, which will make the Foundation stronger, or I can recover the power station and the Airport. Either way, both need to be done.' He thought to himself. 'Another thing is Site-17. Which is located on Montgomery. From what we collected, multiple Keter and Euclid level SCPs are located there.'

He completely embraced his bed, laying down in the comfortable mattress which felt oddly comfortable. He had decided that he would send out his men to recover the marked caches, that would prove useful. Luther then thought about Rick and his role as his puppet. It would be more practical to outright annex them, but letting them develop without their modern support would eventually make them stronger when facing other survivors, which is what he wanted. He wanted a group of people that survivors could relate with, and then use them to execute his will.

Either way, they were useful. Their future expertise would result rather convincing for his men, and they could act as a beacon between them, and the common survivor. What he would have complicated is the part of the anomalies, he'd have to explain what 008 is and what the Foundation is, something that he wished to avoid by being in the shadows ruling with Rick and his group. He thought about the world going back, with the foundation simply acting in the shadow.

...

A week or so later.

While in a completely different location, a helicopter was navigating through the air. Its occupants, seemingly simple military men were anxiously traveling through the air, when one of them simply spoke through the radio. "We need to deliver this to Site-02, hopefully, the Chairman is still alive, O5-4 hopes so." One of them said as he was holding a set of documents that seemed of high importance.

Suddenly, disaster struck as the Helicopter's main systems failed, and it began descending into an spiral of fire which ended up in the terrible crash of the vehicle. It's remains were set on fire as 2 of its 3 occupants were killed in the accident, the third, now badly wounded, carried the documents and set them for their destruction, as anyone who would find them would most likely use them for the wrong purposes.

The white skinned man stared at the documents, slowly burning, as his life banished from his eyes. He heard several engines rumbling approaching his location. In minutes, he heard some men talk and converse about the crash. When he suddenly saw a white man alongside an Asian man. He could hear something about him being called a "Governor" of sorts.

He stared at the man who kept coming closer to his helicopter, until he couldn't any longer, and perished on his seat.
