Chapter 1: KENSHIN AKATSUKI
"Place your thumb on the device, sir," the lady instructed.
Kenshin Akatsuki, an eighteen years old boy with white hair and bright red eyes, was snapped back into reality.
Kenshin looked at the twenty two years old lady, she was dressed in a black suit. He turned back, staring at the orb.
Why won't this piece of worthless junk light up? If it at least shines, even if it is a little, he would be allowed to join the supernatural academy.
"Place your thumb on the device" the lady repeated.
The device was a small white piece of technology that was used to measure the aura which someone has. Despite being so small, the device was connected to a giant orb which was at the center of the room, apart from the orb and the table which the device was placed on, the room was pretty much empty.
The lady took a good look at Kenshin who stood in front of the orb.
_This is the tenth time he's coming for the supernatural test this month, why can't he accept that he has no power at all and just give up" she thought. "His parents were supernatural and they both died during a mission, his sister is lying sick in the hospital and she's going to die any moment from now. He should at least spend the time he's wasting her with her_
The only reason she hasn't kicked him out was just because of his handsomeness.
Kenshin was really handsome, if only he didn't always have that miserable look on his face maybe he would be able to attract more girls to him.
"Excuse me, Kenshin" she called out again, but her voice was louder this time.
Kenshin turned to the lady again, this time he was fully back from his deep thought. He walked slowly to the table and gently placed his thumb on the device, the lady placed her thumb on top of Kenshin's and pushed it down harder.
Kenshin suddenly pulled his hand away and mistakenly pushed the lady back in the process. Kenshin always forgets that the device has little pins that pierce into the skin and extract blood which is tested, and it always triggers his reflexes.
"I'm sorry" Kenshin was finally able to say a word since he got there. From when he left home till now, all he did was nod and shake his head to respond to people like some background character in a game.
Kenshin extended his hand for the lady who gladly took it.
_At least, he was still a gentleman_
"It's okay" she replied. "I get pushed down a lot, I'm used to it now.'
Kenshin just nodded and pulled the lady up, she blushed then quickly switched back to her serious expression.
She walked to the orb and inspected it carefully, Kenshin stood there looking at the orb. His face didn't tell much, but his heart was racing.
"I'm sorry, Kenshin" the lady apologized. "Your aura isn't strong enough to join the academy"
Kenshin's heart was broken into pieces, or maybe he wasn't. His heart was already broken and this news only added to it.
Kenshin slowly nodded before making his way to leave.
"Kenshin!" The lady called out. Kenshin turned back. "If you're free later, we can go together to see your sister...."
"She is fine" Kenshin interrupted then opened the door. "I don't need your pity," Kenshin said before slamming the door shut.
Outside the academy was modern day Tokyo, Japan. The street was busy as usual. Kenshin made his way to the bus station which was not far from the academy. He boarded a bus to the apartment which he rented.
It was a bedroom flat, he used to stay at a bigger house before his parents died but after their death, his sister got ill and he had spent all their life savings and even sold the house but she was not getting better.
His sister was getting slimmer and paler by the day and there was nothing he could do. Standing beside the bed and looking at his beautiful goddess slowly turning into a wretched old woman broke his heart even more.
He had been informed by the doctor that his sister isn't going to last any longer, her heart rate was slowing down and her brain will soon cease functioning. Kenshin was hoping joining the academy would help him find a cure, turns out he couldn't join, which means his sister is going to die, and he can't stand and watch her die, no, he would rather die first.
With this decision, Kenshin ran to the kitchen and picked up the table knife and stormed out of the building and ran straight to the hospital after hiding the knife under his shirt. He should at least see his sister, even if it was the last time. He should say his goodbye to her. Maybe they could meet in heaven or in his next life.
Will he go to heaven?. He knew it was wrong to take someone's life but is it wrong to take one's own life?. Maybe he won't go to heaven, but he was sure his sister will.
On reaching the hospital, Kenshin was breathless. He took a deep breath trying to calm down, but he was still tired even after waiting for five minutes before walking to the lobby.
"I'm here to see my sister," Kenshin said, calling the attention of the receptionist over the counter.
As soon as she saw Kenshin's face, she immediately fell for him. But the miserable look on his face gives off a different umm.... feeling.
"Umm?, Hello?"
"Ohh, right. Yeah" The lady blushed. "What's the name of the patient?"
The receptionist that was in front of Kenshin wasn't the same person he usually meets at the hospital. She was wearing a nurse uniform but she looked like she was about same age as Kenshin. Her hair was black but her eyeballs were yellow...ish.
