Chapter 3: Chapter- 3 Oscar's Decision
Oscar was not surprised because he knew his father wouldn't allow him at his first request, but he didn't lost hope. He repeats again, "Hey, did you just listened what I said?"
"Yeah! And I would again say 'No' to your decision." His father replied and then he starts walking out of his room.
Oscar followed him outside to the main door of their house and shouts, "I am going on an Adventure to find the Orb."
It was getting a little dark Oscar's father lights up the lamp near the door. And then turns back to his son looking at him without saying any words.
"I want to be an Explorer. Did you heard?" Oscar speaks again.
"You are not going anywhere, you are not even 19 man!" His father replied.
Oscar had just turned 18 years old a few days back. May be One or two months ago. Oscar's father was kind of very protective for his son which was obvious for a father being protective for his child. Oscar has lost his mother when he was just a year old baby. And since then his father had been the single parent for him.
"Don't go anywhere now, I am going to prepare the dinner." His father replied and went towards the kitchen.
"I don't wanna eat anything." Oscar replied.
"Won't eat anything and that even you? That's a good joke!" His father starts laughing loudly.
"Don't laugh!" Oscar's face had turned red in anger.
Oscar is very fond of eating and his father would always tease him every time whenever Oscar says that he won't eat anything after any argument between him and Dad.
After a hour or two, Oscar's father calls him for the dinner. He didn't arrived at the table quickly, his father had started having his meal he knew his son would definitely come to the dinner table.
Oscar eventually came up two minutes later, he sat down on his chair and starts having his meal. They didn't tall to each other during their meal.
The only reason why Oscar's father don't allow Oscar go on an Adventure because he doesn't want him to go away from him for months. After losing his mother due to a plague, now his father doesn't want to lose his son.
That night Oscar's father thought the whole night about the decision made by his son about going on an Adventure. He remembers the day when Oscar had told him that he wants to be an Explorer and wants to explore the world. That time Oscar was about 7 years old or maybe 8.
Soon it was morning again, the sun had just begun to rise over the village Brindlemark, casting a warm glow over the thatched roofs and the bustling open area of the village. Oscar Price sat at his study table, surrounded by dusty tomes and faded maps. He had spent the entire night poring over the news about the Golden Ball, his mind racing with excitement and possibility.
Oscar's father entered his room, standing by the door, with a look of concern etched on his face. He speaks up to Oscar, "Oscar, my son listen, I know you're excited about the Golden Orb, but you need to think carefully about this. It's not going to be an easy journey."
Oscar looked up at his father, his eyes were full of determination. He turns back to his maps and books and replied to his father without looking at him, "I know, Father. But I had always wanted to be an Explorer."
Oscar's father sighed, rubbing his temples. "Oscar, you're not even 19 yet. You're still in your teenage years. What makes you think you're ready for a journey like this?"
Oscar stood up and turns to his father, his voice filled with conviction. "Because, Father, I've always felt like there's something missing in my life. Something more."
He looked directly into his father's eyes, "And this…this is it. This is my chance to prove myself, to make a name for myself, and to bring prosperity to our village."
"And even your training isn't complete yet. What are you thinking, you are going to do with that? Huh!?" His father questioned back.
He looked at his son, seeing the fire in his eyes. He knew that Oscar was determined, and that he would stop at nothing to achieve his goal. He won't stop to a single word of him against the journey. He also knew that he couldn't stop Oscar, not now that he had made up his mind.
"Alright, Oscar," His father said finally, his voice resigned. "I'll allow you to go the adventure."
Oscar is looking at his father with sharp eyes without moving a single inch. He knew that his father would definitely put some restrictions for him before going on the journey.
"But you have to promise me one thing, you have to be careful. You have to watch your back, and you have to trust your instincts. Can you promise me that?" His father added.
Oscar nodded, a joyful smile spreading across his face. "I promise, Father. I'll be careful. I'll make you proud. And… and you don't not have to be worry about that, Dad."
He moves up to his table and picks up the maps and an old history book from the table and turns to him again.
"I have been studying about this for a long time. I've studied the maps, the legends, and the stories. I'm convinced that I can do this." Oscar speaks up.
His father smiled, feeling a sense of pride and trepidation. He knew that Oscar would definitely be ready for this journey, but he also knew that the road ahead would be fraught with danger.
Oscar took a deep breath, trying to calm his father's fears. "I know, Father. And I promise you, I've thought this through. And the most important things for such type of journey is to assemble a team of experts, people who are skilled in navigation, combat, and diplomacy. We also have to be well-prepared for any challenges that come our way. So that we can achieve our goal."
Oscar's father raised an eyebrow. "A team, you say? Who's on this team?"
Oscar smiled, and replied, "Still to collect a team!"
"Oh I see." His father laughs, "Still to collect a team!"
Before speaking up again, he thought about what his son just said. He looks down at Oscar and asked back, "Is your team ready or…?"
Oscar smiles at him and said, "No ones there!"
"You dumbass! You haven't yet got a team and you wants to get the golden ball! Huh!?" His father shouts at him.
Still Oscar kept convincing his father, "Don't worry I will make up a team of 8 members." He still haven't gave up his hope.
"Who the hell even confirm that 'I gonna make a team of only 8 members' Huh!?" His father asked. He was too much worried over the dumb behavior of his son.
"Don't worry about that!" Oscar smiled again showing his teeth.
His father was impressed by his son's determination, "I see. You've certainly done your mind, my son. But I still have my doubts. What makes you think you can succeed where so many others have failed?"
Oscar's eyes shone with determination. "Because, Father I have made up my mind. I would stop at nothing."
He added again, "And also I have a vision of a world where the Golden Ball's power is used for the greater good. A world where people can live in peace and prosperity. And I'm willing to risk everything to make that vision a reality."
He looked at his son, seeing the fire in his eyes. He knew that Oscar was ready. He kept looking directly into Oscar's eyes for a minute and then he turns to the door and when he was about to left the room, he turns back to him and said, "Come for breakfast now."
"Wait!" Oscar said, "You are calling me for breakfast after the food has already cooled down."
"It's because of your dumbass decisions!" His father shouts at him again. Oscar quickly runs to the kitchen for the breakfast, he was in full joy at that moment.
As Oscar left the study, his father looked upon Oscar's study table full with history and geography books, world maps. He couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia. He remembered when he was Oscar's age, he was also full of fire and ambition.
He had even dreamt of becoming a great adventurer in his youth, exploring the unknown and discovering hidden treasures. But that was a long time ago. Now, he was older, wiser, and more cautious.
Suddenly, Oscar starts calling his dad from outside the kitchen, "Hey dad! Now what are you stopping for?" He turns back and walks off to the kitchen. Both the father-son duo entered the kitchen together and then sat down by the dinning table and have their breakfast.
After the breakfast, Oscar went out to the village to meet his friends Bramble Burrowes and Calgreis Barton, but his father was still sitting by the table thinking about his son.
His father was still worried about his son. He knew that Oscar would face many challenges on his journey, but he also knew that his son is always able to deal with the problems.
But still, Oscar was a young boy with a big heart and a sense of wonder. He would need all his courage and determination to succeed, but his father had no doubt that he would make it through.
