Chapter 378: Justice
She took a deep breath and looked at Peter.
Her voice was soft but full of certainty as she said,
"I am truly touched. But I cannot accept this gift. It is too expensive."
Hearing those words, Peter chuckled quietly.
He leaned closer, his smile calm.
"You should just take it as compensation on behalf of Nexi," he said.
At once, Adriana's hands clenched into fists.
Her blue eyes hardened, and she shook her head.
"No. That will not do," she said firmly.
"Even though I feel disgusted by Nexi's behavior, as long as you deal with her, that is enough for me. There is no need to give me compensation."
Peter stared at her for a moment.
He had expected her to resist, but hearing her distant words still stung.
Yet he controlled it, forcing the anger back down.
"If that is the case," he said calmly, "then I will throw away this property once it is finished. Anyway, losing hundreds of thousands of dollars, even hundreds of millions, is not much for my company."
Adriana's eyes widened.
Her heart jumped, and she quickly turned to him. "What are you saying?" she asked in shock.
Peter's voice was calm, almost too calm.
"I made this for you. If you do not take it, then I do not want it either. Let the employees of my corporation suffer. Let their payments be docked as well. All of this will happen simply because you are not ready to accept this gift."
Adriana was stunned. She stared at him in disbelief, her lips parting but no sound leaving her throat.
Slowly, her shock melted into confusion, and then into helpless laughter.
"You really know how to make me feel guilty," she said with a small smile.
Peter's lips curved upward as his eyes softened.
"Then I will take it as a yes," he replied.
Adriana rolled her eyes, but her heart was trembling once again.
A man who could give away so much to her in the name of compensation… that kind of man must truly carry deep feelings.
Otherwise, how could he hand over such an important piece of land to her?
She swallowed down the feelings rising inside her and looked at him with gentle eyes.
Finally, she gave a small nod.
Both of them spent more time at the waterfall.
Adriana sat by the rocks, listening to the rushing water, while Peter stayed nearby, watching her with quiet admiration.
She dipped her fingers into the cool pool, enjoying the refreshing feeling, and Peter could not help but smile at how peaceful she looked.
They talked a little, but mostly they enjoyed the calm atmosphere.
Hours slipped by before Adriana finally decided it was time to return.
Peter drove her back to her house, making sure she arrived safely.
She waved goodbye, her cheeks still warm from all that had happened.
Then Peter returned to his own mansion.
Once he stepped inside the Richardson mansion, his smile disappeared.
His aura changed at once, like a storm brewing on a quiet night.
Without a word, he walked into the living room and sat down on the sofa.
His back was straight, and his eyes cold. He waited.
Soon, the head butler arrived.
At the sight of Peter, the butler's face paled.
He tried to cover his fear by forcing a smile and greeted him respectfully.
Peter's voice was calm,
"Tell me," he said slowly, "was it Nexi who asked you to throw my phone into the fish tank?"
The butler froze. His heart sank.
He looked at Peter, his lips trembling, but no words came out.
He did not dare to lie, yet he could not tell the truth either. If he admitted it, it would mean betrayal.
If he denied it, Peter would know anyway.
Peter stared at him for a while, silent and unreadable.
Then he turned his head toward a nearby servant. His voice was still calm, but it was laced with faint amusement.
"From now on, you will be the new head butler," Peter said.
The servant's eyes widened in shock, while the current head butler's face drained of color.
Peter looked at the old head butler with cold eyes.
"You are fired. Forget all the things you have done for the Richardson family. As mercy, I will not blacklist you. But from this day forward, you have no place here."
The head butler's knees gave out, and he fell to the floor.
His eyes widened in fear, and he began to beg.
"Young master, please forgive me! It was just a momentary mistake. I did not want to do it. It was the young miss who forced me!"
Peter let out a soft chuckle, but there was no warmth in his expression. His eyes remained icy.
"I will deal with the young miss soon. But first, I must deal with you."
The butler's tears streamed down his face. "Please, show me mercy!" he sobbed.
But Peter's heart was unshaken.
His voice remained ruthless.
"The one I care for was harmed. How could I show mercy to those who allowed it? If I forgive the criminals, then what about the victim who suffered?"
His words were final. The butler lowered his head, hopeless, and finally left with trembling steps.
Peter then turned to the newly appointed head butler. His gaze softened only slightly.
"Has Nexi returned?"
The new butler bowed quickly.
"Yes, young master, she has returned."
In his heart, however, he thought back to a conversation he had overheard the day before.
He remembered clearly that Nexi and the old butler had planned to use Peter's phone to chat with Adriana.
Worse, they had even dared to harm the future lady boss, and the old butler had deleted the chat records to cover it up and even threw the phone in the fish tank.
Now, seeing Peter's reaction, the new butler understood clearly. Adriana already held more weight in Peter's heart than Nexi did.
With that thought, he turned and went to call Nexi.
Upstairs, Nexi was in her room, applying makeup.
