Chapter 229 – Boating adventure
While traveling towards the ocean in the regular world, the girls decided to take a boat ride on the river they had discovered to have a relaxing trip while chatting about all kinds of things and making more plans for creating additional biomes in Sophia's domain.
"By the way, what are we going to do when or if we reach the demon continent?" As they continued their boating trip towards the ocean, Ari grew curious about their future itinerary, no matter how far away it might still be.
"Exploring!" Anna and the sisters had the same immediate reply.
"So, more of the same?" The jaguar tilted her head.
"I'm looking forward to meeting the demon folk!" Chloe's priority was somewhere else. "I am looking forward to exploring the place too, though."
"That, too!" Sophia nodded a few times. "I can't wait to meet them! Canir, Mira, and Aura all said the demons are way more creative when it comes to magic, and I'd love to see what they're capable of!"
"Compared to the regular beastfolk, I'm also curious, but with you as the benchmark, I wonder if the difference will actually be all that big." Ari glanced at the overpowered blonde tiger.
"I wonder if you could beat a demon in a magic fight." Sophia just smirked at the jaguar.
"…"
"Even more so if you and everyone else keep growing their powers in my domain."
"I don't think the amount of magic is all that counts there." Steph slowly shook her head. "I mean, look at how I wasn't even able to scratch Kel, even though our power levels aren't that different. Ari also hasn't had such strong magic for long, right? We're missing experience!"
"Thank you very much." The jaguar was glad the little sister had a rare reasonable moment.
"That's why, let's train lots so we can beat up some demons!" The dog-girl smiled at Ari with sparkling eyes. "In a friendly way, of course!"
"…" She felt stupid for her earlier thought of her being reasonable. "Why would I want to fight a demon?"
"Why not?!" Steph looked honestly confused.
"Haa…" Ari didn't feel like humoring her.
"Judging by what we've heard from Aura, the demons seem to be quite the fight enjoyers, so you might end up getting challenged either way." Sophia had the feeling that the jaguar had no say in it in the first place.
"I'm starting to consider staying home…" She already had enough before they even got there.
"I'm definitely going to show them the power of the beastfolk!" Anna pushed out her chest while challenging the demons she had never met before smiling at Steph. "Let's train lots to show them what's up!"
"You're the best!" The dog-girl liked that.
"Are you sure you can let her run around without you on that continent?" Chloe found a potential flaw in Ari's plan as she faced the jaguar.
"Urgh…" She hung her head again. "Why is everyone in our group so obsessed with fighting?"
"That's what I want to know, too!" Sophia energetically nodded a couple of times.
"You beat a dragon of mythical size into submission in recent events!" Ari immediately glared at her. "You have no right to complain about that!"
"It's not like I wanted to do that!" The blonde raised her voice. "Kel started everything! I just wanted to chat and get to know him, but he kept attacking me and only started listening after I showed him that I'm stronger!"
"Well, I guess that's fair. Exceptions aside, you really are more of a reactive person when it comes to stuff like that."
Stolen story; please report.
"Exactly!"
"In bed, too." Maya just had to do it.
"Shush!"
"Ehehe~." She had to chuckle in return. "Though, speaking of the beastfolk, are there any of us on the demon continent? Sure, it probably has that name for a reason, but there are at the very least dragons, so it's not exclusive to the demons."
"That's a good question and rather complicated to answer." Anna scratched her cheek while thinking about it. "Not so much in recent history, but there are numerous expeditions that sailed towards the other continent. Not one of them has returned, though. That, combined with the fact that the sea is littered with monsters that make the monster country pale in comparison, led to the belief that no one ever made it."
"Or the demon place was too much of a paradise that they never even thought about returning." Sophia had a different theory.
"I mean, could be, I guess?" The princess just shrugged.
"Let's ask Aura when we get home!" The blonde clapped her hands. "She's been there for a little while, so I'm sure she'd know!"
"Good idea." Anna and Maya liked the plan.
"I'm really looking forward to seeing if there are any special biomes, places, or species that don't exist on this continent!" Chloe preferred to see something new.
"New biomes!" Sophia enjoyed that part a lot. "My domain will be very happy about that!"
"How very selfish of you." The fox-girl let out a small chuckle.
"Hey!" She wasn't a fan of that accusation. "It will be beneficial for all of us!"
"I'm just kidding~."
"That being said, I'm also really looking forward to meeting someone other than the beastfolk." The blonde nodded a few times but then froze for a moment. "Wait, that sounds a little iffy. I mean, as in finding more friends, not because I'm sick of them. That couldn't be farther from the truth! I love the beastfolk, after all!"
"No one was ever going to doubt that." Maya slowly shook her head.
"Thank you very much!"
"What a dork," The cat-girl then rolled her eyes. "That being said, demons, huh? I still remember how I mistook you for one because your powers didn't make any sense, and that was the only logical explanation."
"Right, you called me a demon princess!" Sophia clapped her hands while showing a nostalgic smile. "Fun times!"
"Instead, you turned yourself into an honorary beastfolk princess." Maya wasn't sure what to make of that detail.
"It's funny how things work out sometimes, huh?" The blonde only shrugged.
"She's also the princess of misunderstandings and willing things into existence, so I have a bad feeling about everything that was just said." Ari awkwardly scratched her cheek. "Any bets on how and why our idiot will end up being turned into an actual demon princess? Another honorary one, at least?"
"Don't even joke about that!" The blonde had no plans for such a thing to happen.
"I am not joking." Ari stared right at her. "Also, why are you so loud? We all know that you live for attention, so that would be in your favor, wouldn't it?"
"True!" Everyone could follow her train of thought.
"Not true!" Everyone except Sophia, that is.
"Sure~."
"Grr!"
"Obvious self-fulfilling prophecies aside, it looks like Aura also has the chance to become something similar, hasn't she?" Steph smirked at her sister before continuing. "It looks like she already saved the capital and received a title from the queen or princess of the demons, so she definitely has a lead over Sophia, who has to put in some work to catch up to her."
"I do not have to work for that!" The blonde got louder again.
"True, you are a natural at those sorts of things." Anna saw where she was coming from.
"I hate all of you!"

As Sophia had turned rather pouty during that conversation, the girls eventually dropped their teasing and focused on their boat ride again.
"Is it just me, or is the river getting faster?" Continuing their travel towards the ocean, Ari was slowly starting to notice a change in the water below and around them.
"Now that you mention it." Maya looked around while nodding a few times. "It's definitely faster and slightly more turbulent."
"It seems to be increasing even more up ahead, too." Anna pointed further down the lake.
"Wild water ride, let's go!" Hearing and seeing this, Steph immediately got excited. "Let's do some high-speed rafting!"
"I think I liked the relaxing ride a bit more." Chloe wasn't sure if she could agree with her girlfriend.
"Same!" Ari and Sophia sided with the pink fox.
"Boring!"
As they continued their ride, it eventually became evident that Steph would end up getting her high-speed wild-water rafting experience sooner rather than later. The river kept getting faster and faster until it became increasingly difficult to hold onto the boat and stay afloat, all while they were splashed with water from all sides, as the forces tried to capsize their little boat.
"By the way, you girls might want to brace yourselves for the waterfall we're rapidly approaching." Sophia, who had been pouting in silence for a little while, eventually began to smirk as she pointed in front of them. There, they saw how the landscape was quickly changing, and they could barely make out how their river was heading over the edge of a cliff. "Have fun with that~."
Still upset over being teased earlier, no matter how right they were, Sophia jumped off the boat and onto the shore right before it went over the edge and simply waved after them from the safe land with a massive smile as the girls disappeared behind the edge of the drop. All she heard was a high-pitched shriek, mostly consisting of Ari's voice, before there was a massive splashing noise followed by silence.
