Chapter 215 – The dragonhunter
Aura told the group a little story about her time on the demon continent and how the Queen of the demons gave her the title 'Dragonhunter of Igath' for protecting the capital there from an invasion of aggressive dragons during her stay there.
"Alright, let's do this!" A day had passed since their meeting with Kel when Steph was standing in front of him again, while her tail was excitedly wagging from side to side.
"Are you sure you have a chance?" The dragon just looked at her. He, the dog-girl, as well as the wolves, Sophia, and Chloe, had gotten together again to play. Kel was in a massive body of water, while the others were on a big green flat island with nothing but grass for at least a kilometer in each direction.
"I'm sure I don't!" She shook her head. "I don't see how or why that should stop me, though! Also, I need to start somewhere to get stronger! As I don't do things half-heartedly, challenging a dragon many times my size and power is pretty on-brand for me!"
"That is quite true." Sophia and Chloe nodded a few times.
"I can't say I hate that attitude. In fact, I quite like it." Kel was becoming a fan of the dog-girl. "Okay, how about you start coming at me while I only defend?"
"Let's go!" Wasting no time, Steph instantly broke into a sprint and lunged herself at the head of the dragon with impressive speed. Mid-air, she readied her fist and clad it into a yellowish-white flame. A moment later, her fist connected with the area right in the center of his nose, and the fire instantly enveloped his entire head.
"Fwah!" In response to that, Kel briefly exhaled through his nostrils, which was enough to send the dog-girl flying back to the island.
"Oi! That's nasty!" She didn't appreciate that. "You can't just blow your nose on a girl!"
"You just set me on fire, and I am the problem?" Naturally, Kel had been unaffected by the fire and just stared at her after the flames were gone.
"A maiden's heart is complex and complicated!"
"…" Sophia and Fen looked at each other while it seemed like both were itching to say something in regard to Steph's claim.
"Don't you dare to make a comment there!" The dog-girl glared at them.
"Are we giving up already?" Seeing how she had gotten distracted, Kel added a hint of mockery to his tone. "I was expecting a little more from this."
"I was just warming up!" Steph changed her attention to the dragon again.
Still as motivated as ever, the dog-girl immediately jumped at him a second time, but this time, she clad her fist in water. Once it contacted with his nose, she once more tried to envelop his entire head with her attack before freezing the water in an instant.
However, not even a second later, the ice began to crack all over, and the dragon's head was freed once more immediately after. The ice exploded away from him with such force that Steph was catapulted back to the island in the process again, as well.
Steph continued to use the same type of attack a couple more times, just with different elements or mixing a few of them together, but the result was always the same. Kel being completely unharmed, that is.
"You're definitely quite powerful, and you'd be able to overpower a smaller dragon, but you lack tactics, output, and fine control over your magic. I'm not sure if Sophia's much better in the tactics department, but her control and magic output are so overwhelming that she doesn't need any plans. You aren't quite there yet. I can also feel no desire to hurt me, which I appreciate, but it doesn't help the case here."
"Ah…" Steph scratched her cheek. "I've actually never used my magic to fight before. I only use it to play around or create fun stuff!"
"That shows." Kel had nothing else to say.
"Alright, who wants to teach me offensive magic?" The dog-girl was only marginally upset about it and preferred to look for help instead.
"I wouldn't mind making you a dragonhunter-in-training~." Aura winked at her.
"Let's go!" She liked that a lot.
"Shouldn't you wait and see how capable your potential teacher is?" Kel thought she was a little hasty again.
"How about we find out?" The female wolf's voice got a little deeper as her eyes narrowed. "Ever since Sophia's domain, my authority and powers have been growing and are now at a point where I can actually feel the change. I've been itching to find out where my current limits are! You've come at the perfect time." She stared at the dragon with a fire burning in her eyes.
"It appears like we're going to hit Sophia's security system in a fraction of a second." Kel had a feeling that their match would be a short one.

"As long as neither of us does an instant kill attack, we should be able to play for a good while." Her voice kept getting more confident and provocative. "I have plenty of techniques that are only almost deadly."
"We should've met sooner." The dragon liked her a whole lot.
"Hey." Fen didn't like the admiration in his voice. "She's taken."
"I was purely speaking from the perspective of someone who loves to fight." Kel lightly shook his massive head. "From a romantic perspective, she wouldn't be my type. You, on the other hand, hit the jackpot with her, though." He sent a brief nod in the male wolf's direction.
"Truer words have never been spoken." He wholeheartedly agreed with him.
"Hehe." Aura liked that. "Okay, should we have a dance?" She then showed her teeth while looking at the dragon.
"It would be my pleasure."
----------------
Once everyone had gained some distance from Aura, as she had asked them to do, the wolf prepared to launch her assault.
Immediately after, ten tornadoes formed around the dragon and encircled him. While they were getting closer to Kel, the tornadoes were sucking up water and throwing it around in every direction with tremendous force. It created a monsoon-like downpour that was so intense that visibility soon dropped to zero due to all the water in the air.
Wasting no time, Aura used this chance to close the distance between the dragon and herself. Hiding behind the low visibility of the rain, she catapulted herself towards Kel with the help of wind magic, propelling her forward.
Her cutting through the rain was rather flashy, though, and made it easy for the dragon to spot her rapid approach. Focusing on her body for a quick second, he moved the tail end of his long body and effortlessly swatted the wolf out of the air like a fly. The size difference between them, even though Aura had changed to her grown version, made such a comparison not at all odd, either.
Being punched out of the air like that, the wolf got smashed into the water and disappeared into it with a big splash. Afterward, nothing happened for a couple of moments before the tornadoes began to die down and disappear, taking the monsoon-like rain with them. Once they were gone, everything went silent for about half a minute.
Then, out of nowhere, Aura shot out of the water with the speed of a bullet right below Kel's body and literally shot herself into the underside of his head. There was so much energy in her magic-aided, seemingly near-supersonic attack that she managed to drill herself into the dragon's lower jaw and made him keel over backward, causing most of his body to sink below the water surface.
Having actually not expected that, as her speed was faster than everything he imagined, Kel needed a minute to recover from the blow to his jaw. Once he resurfaced and raised his body, he shook his head from side to side to reorient himself. While doing so, a cracked scale from the underside of his head broke off and fell into the water with a slight splash before some droplets of blood soon followed suit. Just like Sophia before, Aura had been powerful enough to break through his natural scale defense.
While this was happening, Aura created a small island of ice to stand on while she was waiting for him to recover. After all, she wanted to have a match and not finish him off with consecutive attacks. She did, however, let out a boastful chuckle when she saw the broken scale and the droplets of blood.
Her smugness didn't last for too long, though. Once he recovered enough from the blow, Kel glared at the wolf below him and immediately launched his counterattack. Massive waves hit the small island from every side and swallowed it whole in an instant. Then, the water flash-froze and encompassed the area in a 50-meter-thick dome of ice.
The dragon had no intention of stopping there, though. The ice tomb continued to grow in size until Kel shifted his body, smashing the dome with his tail, which was covered in a significant amount of pink and purple particles. It seemed like he was using raw magic to increase the power of his physical attack.
The moment his tail contacted with the ice, it exploded into countless tiny particles that blanketed everything in the area in an instant. Even the visitors on the little island were covered in a thin layer of sparkly frozen dust. Everyone except Sophia, that is. Somehow, she seemed to be completely unaffected by it.
The force of Kel's attack was still doing more damage, though. After the ice got pulverized, his tail hit the water and cut deep into it. This caused it to splash in all directions as the dragon punched a massive hole into it. Naturally, it then quickly filled itself again with all the surrounding water flowing back. There was no sign of Aura, though.
Naturally, as it was simply impossible in Sophia's domain, she hadn't been frozen and smashed into tiny pieces by Kel's attack. A moment later, the tip of the dragon's tail turned into a torch. It appeared that the wolf had managed to dodge his attack while trapped in the ice and was able to latch onto it before setting it on fire.
Using his confusion, Aura then quickly got moving again and ran on top of the dragon, along his spine, all the way to his head. Near the upper portion of his body, the wolf readied another massive ball of fire burning in a bright white color and shot it towards his head.
Feeling the rapidly approaching heat, Kel instinctively moved to the side to dodge the flame, but Aura had anticipated that and jumped in the direction he was moving. As going for the kill was out of the question, she decided to take a little trophy instead. She lunged herself at one of Kel's horns on top of his head and used her powerful jaw to break off the very tip of it.
Kel did not appreciate that.
Still soaring through the air with a roughly one-meter-long piece of the dragon's horn, Aura eventually ended up right in front of Kel's head while falling towards the ground. Seeing her and his horn right in front of him, his eyes narrowed as he opened his massive jaw. Then, the aquatic dragon spewed fire.
It happened so fast that this time, the wolf had no means of dodging and was hit by the brunt of it. Then, the volley of fire, looking like an attack from a massive flamethrower, hit the edge of the island, where the others were on to spectate their fight. Luckily, Sophia made sure that none of her friends would get hit by it, as well.
Once the flames dissipated, Aura, who had been in the center of the fire the entire time, became visible again while she was in the crater on the island created by Kel's powerful attack. She was still standing and alive, as was a matter of course, thanks to the blonde's domain.
The wolf was also still holding her trophy, the tip of Kel's horn, in her jaw, but the extremely hot fire had taken its toll. Most of her fur had been singed in various places, while it had completely burned down to its undercoat in many other areas. The smell of burnt fur quickly filled the area as light smoke was still rising from her body. The determination in her eyes, as she hadn't been seriously hurt, was still unbroken, though. Kel's expression was conveying the same feeling.
About three seconds later, Blu had beaten up both, and the fight between them had ended. The referee bird had decided that playtime was over and called it a draw.
