Chapter 53: REHEARSALS
While Caroline was sitting quietly watching her sister make a fuss about her dress, she noticed that something was off about the designer of the dress. She could tell that she was nervous from her composure alone.
But listening closely, something was amiss, five people were present, but the sound of beating hearts was two instead of three.
Her heart and her sister's rarely sounded almost like they were dead.
But that was normal. What wasn't normal was how among the three humans present only two hearts beat.
She focused on the young designer who was being scolded by Stacey.
"Thump....." and there was her answer, another dead heart.
'Well, she wasn't human nor was she a vampire.' The pureblood was sure of that.
"Thump, thump, thump," Caroline listened closely again, and this time, the woman's heart beat normally.
'A witch' she realised with the change of the sound, a few minutes back the girl's heart beat faintly, but now it was lively just like a human's would be.
And only a certain creature was capable of altering the sound of there heart beat.
"WITCHES"
Subtly observing the woman, she fit a certain description and image.
She ranked her brain over and over until realisation dawned upon her when the woman almost walked past her.
Now, her suspicions were confirmed when she heard the first names of the two women.
'Yvonne and Eva' were the two girls who disappeared when the witch was burnt by the village folks.
Yvonne sat rigidly staring sharply at the vampiress, Caroline was unfazed by the witch.
"Where did you go?" She asked
Yvonne took a while before she said, "My mother hid me away before her death."
She said, not quite answering the question she was asked.
Eva was fidgeting by the side, sensing the tension between the two women.
"Those dresses," Caroline said, standing up.
Reaching to the back of her dress, she started undoing the strings of her corset.
Eva, seeing this, went near her and requested, "Can l be of help, Milady. "
The vampiress turned her back for Eva to start helping her undress and try on the dresses they brought.
Yvonne also stood up and went to the side to prepare the dresses for the vampiress to try on.
She carefully picked up the dresses by the wooden hangers and lay them on the sofa.
Caroline went to stand in front of her full-length mirror in her undergarments.
Yvonne brought forth the lilac dress that didn't fit Lady Stacey.
Looking at the older daughter's body, she appeared leaner and her skin paler compared to the younger daughter whose body had a more tan color, and her figure was a little plumper.
Yvonne presumed that the dress would fit the lady and that she was right.
The two women had helped the vampiress fit into the dress. Now, looking at her reflection, the dress was right for her.
The subtle but eye-catching color glowed softly on her pale skin. The silver and gold gems placed here and there shone brightly, giving more life to the dress, which hugged her upper body well and flowed down her long legs onto the floor.
Yvonne tied the satin strings on the back for the dress to slightly push the Lady's bosom upwards, making it more prominent.
"My Lady, you look beautiful." Eva exclaimed in awe of the vampiress' reflection.
"I hate liars and schemers, Yvonne." Caroline emphasised
"Exposing your presence now would most likely lead you to end up like your mother, so I suggest you keep a low profile," Caroline warned blankly, looking at her reflection.
"I will wear this," She continued.
Florah's nerves jerked when the carriage parked in front of the large theatre.
The silent but nerve-wracking carriage ride was over. But she would rather stay in the carriage and rot away in her thoughts than enter the building.
Such thoughts seemed farfetched at the moment. The carriage door opened and put went the butler who stood by the side, waiting for her to follow him.
The redhead had no choice but to follow the man into the building.
The more steps they took, the more her heart plummeted down into her stomach.
With each step, she could feel her strong facade slip away from her.
