Chapter 52: WITCH AMONGST THEM

Her older daughter always found a way to frustrate her. She had successfully reprimanded that incompetent woman, but her stupid daughter saved her face in the end.

"Mother, what do you think of this one?" Stacey asked her mother while looking at herself in the mirror.

The dress she adorned was of emerald green velvet. The corset hugged her bosom snugly, which exaggerated her waist, making it look smaller.

The dress was embedded with golden and silver gems by the bodice and at the beginning of the lower skirt that also had floral golden trimming at the bottom.

"I love it,Motherr!!" Stacey exclaimed sweetly, acting pure and innocent.

"Splendid dear," Lady Roselinda chimed, clasping her hands together in delight.

Meanwhile, back in Caroline's room, the designer and her assistant stood by the sofa awaiting Lady Caroline's orders.

On the other hand, the lady in question asked, "Have you had breakfast yet, Miss...."

"Yvonne Garford, Lady Caroline." The designer introduced herself."And this is my assistant, Eva. "

She also introduced her assistant, whom she seemed very fond of.

"Well, it's a pleasure meeting you both, now back to my question." Caroline said with ease

"N.no Milady, we haven't yet," the human answered truthfully, which was wise because the lady in front of her had a thing against liars no matter how small or harmless the lie was.

"Well, don't just stand there. Have a seat." She gestured at the sofa across hers.

Yvonne and Eva threw each other looks of concern before yielding to the Lady's hospitality.

Just as they sat, the vampiress stood up and fetched a tray from her vanity that had a ceramic tea pot and a set of cups.

With covered biscuits on the side.

Placing it before the women, she started to prepare three cups of tea, "Sugar or no sugar." She asked, looking at her guests.

A wary designer and her assistant looked towards the royal pureblood and nodded, "One spoon, please." Both said in unison

"Hmmm," Caroline hummed as she continued to prepare the tea.

Afterward, she placed the tea cups on small saucers and the plate of cookies in front of the humans.

Sitting back in her chair, "Please, " she gestured towards the tea and biscuits.

While the three sipped their tea, Caroline asked, "When did you start your profession?"

"Hhmmh, hmmmh," Yvonne cleared her throat, "Two years ago, My Lady."

"Hmmm, your bead work was intricate. Where did you learn." She inquired again

"My mother taught me she had a small dress shop in our village." Yvonne replied

"Miss Gwilanda Vandrous,"

"Crack, paaahhh."

The moment Caroline said that name, Eva's teacup slipped out of her hands, breaking in the process.

Yvonne's heart beat rapidly in her chest, 'She knew her mother, that meant that she what she was.'

Her eyes looked at the vampiress whose eyes had turned a deep red, which announced bad news for her.

On the other hand, Caroline sat calmly, looking at the witch and human who were panicking in front of her.

'Gwilanda Vandrous' A witch who managed to live amongst other creatures for so long until she couldn't.

Most witches were known not to live anywhere near other creatures, but the witch had managed to do so for seven years.

She resided in a small village on the outskirts of Wollen Town, had a small business that sold young girls' dresses, the woman had managed to keep a low profile, but that was until a jealous and suspicious human girl planted a wilting stem in her shop.

The beautiful witch was the talk of the village. Her looks and mysterious mannerisms attracted many men to go to her shop even though they had nothing of interest there, but just her was enough.

She was always seen with a small child with whom she shared her sparking amber eyes. The girl was often quiet, almost like she couldn't speak.

The attention that she garnered from the local men elicited seeds of jealousy among other young ladies in the village.

That prompted one to come up with the baseless accusation that Gwilanda was a witch.

To prove that she indeed was one, the girl planted a wilting stem in the dress shop, unbeknownst to Gwilanda, who inhaled the stem's scent, causing her to have quite the reaction towards the stem.

"Aaaaahhhh aaahhhh," a woman screamed as she ran out of the shop. Big red boils covered her face and hands, and her hair fell out in several portions.

"WITCH WIITTCH!!" Another terrified lady like voice screamed in horror.

"Aaaaahhhhh, aaahhhh." A series of terrified voices echoed in the air upon realization that a witch lived amongst them.

A number of brave men garnered the courage to drag a wounded 'Gwilanda' to the center of the village.

Before the poor woman could even beg for mercy, a blazing stake found its way to her heart.

"Aaahhhhhh," the witch kept on screaming in agony, but her screams were like music to the village folks, as they proceeded to tie her on a wooden pole and set her on fire.

By the time 'THE HOUSE' arrived, Gwilanda Vandrous was a pile of ashes.

Caroline alighted her carriage. Her brown eyes first looked around the peasant village and went to settle on the burnt wood and ashes that lay in a pile at the center.

The village folks stayed away from it and the members of the house.

Caroline and her team investigated the present folks who narrated what had happened with disgust for the witch.

But the missing details were about her daughter, who wasn't present that day, and her whereabouts, which were unknown until this day.

"There is no point in turning hostile, Miss Yvonne," Caroline said calmly, feeling the air in her room change.

Yvonne set her sharp eyes upon the pureblood. She knew that even if they were to fight, the probability of her coming out the Victor was close to none.

She felt Eva squeeze her hand in comfort, "We do not mean any harm, Milady. If it's not too much trouble, we will get out of your way." Eva said politely

Pulling her friend up, the two girls stood up.

"It isn't very polite for you to walk out on your host, sit down," Caroline said in a low polite voice that sounded very much like a command.
