Blood and Ember

Chapter 3: Housoy [2]

Elara:

As I walked out the bar I made eye contact with a boy would could not have been any older than me. He had long black hair tied up, wearing clothes I've never seen before, his clothes were black as my hair. When walking out the bar I made eye contact with the strange boy his eyes were a dark shade of brown.

"Who was he?" I muttered outside.

Walking down the streets of Housoy is annoying. Everyone gives a certain glare as if I killed their family. The Demi-humans, humans, all intellectual beings in this city hate me. My own people turned their backs on me.

I turned towards an alley to avoid the crowd of glares. The alley was narrow with no other way out. Straight ahead with a small stairway that leads down stairs somewhere else that I'm not sure about. In the alley there was a strong smell of incense in the air filling up my nose.

"Ugh why do I have to go through this way"

Annoyed was an understatement in this situation.

A shadowy figure was down the alley. They were wearing a full dark cloak in the middle of the day. They were staring straight at me but that was nothing new for me. I decided I'll ignore them and if they cause trouble it wasn't me.

"Hello. I want to say your eyes are very pretty. Do you mind if I take a look?" The shadowy figure said.

His voice was raspy and sounded as if he was around his late 40s or early 50s.

That question who in their right mind would ask that! I'm not sure who or what he wants from me but there's no way I can let him see my eyes.

"No sorry, can you please move!" I said annoyed.

"I don't think you understand I'm not asking" he replied sinisterly.

Alright now I need to head out of here fast but maybe I can take him on. He doesn't seem to be as strong as me but I can't be sure he's hiding his true potential. I have to know every possibility no matter what I can't underestimate an opponent.

The shadow went straight for me. He lunged his fist towards my face in an instant he was right in front of me. How? How could someone travel as fast as he did?I barely had time to react, my instincts kicking in as I tilted my head to the side. His fist grazed past my cheek, the sheer force of it sending a sharp gust of wind against my face. I stumbled back, heart pounding. This wasn't normal—his speed, his strength, none of it made sense.

I retaliated immediately, slashing with my dagger in a wide arc. The blade cut through the air, but the shadow slipped past it as though it could read my movements.

"Tch," I hissed, stepping back to put some distance between us. My tail lashed behind me, betraying my frustration.

"You're not as fast as I expected, daughter of darkness," the shadow sneered, its voice dripping with mockery. "Or are you holding back? Afraid of showing your true self?"

I gritted my teeth. No way was I letting it get inside my head.

"What do you want from me? Please go on and tell me" I shouted with an annoyed and aggressive tone.

"Just one tiney, tiny, thing… Your blood" he replied.

I was in shock. My hands were frozen too . I couldn't move. Why… Why would someone want my blood? Was it because of my family?

"So come on, just stand still over there and let me draw just your blood and you MIGHT live" he said with a creepy sinister smile and his voice hinting that he wasn't even remotely feeling remorse for attacking me.

As I tried to keep some distance from him he grabbed my arms with his arms.

"Just keep resisting and I'll kill you on the spot. It's not like we need you alive for this" his voice puts a chill down my spine it's like he doesn't care what he does he really means what he says.

I stopped struggling to throw him off as he pulled out his syringe to take some of my blood.

"Here it goes" he said with a bright sinister smile.

I knocked the syringe out of his hands with my white tail that he had forgotten.

"You really shouldn't have done that" he said.

He puts his left hand on my neck holding me down with just one hand. How strong is he? Is he stronger than… no he can't. I kicked and hit him as much as I could but still no match for him. I'm not sure why I can't seem to damage him. I've never been in a situation like this. I always survive no matter what. I was beyond mad at this man holding me down.

Energy started to flow everywhere, it felt as if I was floating. Why do I feel this way?

"Now that's what I want to see! But not right now" he said excitedly.

My hair was flowing up my eyes were changing colors to pure black but then…

CRASH!

I reverted back into my velvet eyes and all this energy disappeared.

What was that? The man holding me down turned his head around to see what that noise was.

"Get off of her now" the voice commanded.

It was a female voice. It was her. One of the captains of the royal army. What was her name again? Why was she out here? She should be in the Capital city called Aeloria.

"Damn it… it's you" he bickered.

"It doesn't matter I got what I need" he stood up from me and backed away from both me and the captain.

"Thanks I'll be on my way" he said with a smile that showed his disgusting teeth's.

I stood up from where I was on the ground. I walked over to the captain while cleaning off the dust from my clothes.

"T-thanks for that" I said to the captain.

"What was going on over here? I felt something… an aura" she said, remembering the feeling she felt not that long ago.
