Shiraha had been laying the groundwork for so long, waiting for this moment—just to touch the Hōgyoku in Urahara Kisuke's possession. If he succeeded, the sign-in task would be complete. More importantly, he wanted to see whether this half-finished Hōgyoku would even respond to him.
"What? Touch the Hōgyoku? Why?" Urahara tilted his head, fanning himself with mild confusion.
Shiraha hadn't even achieved Bankai yet. His Reiatsu was formidable, at the level of an upper captain, but what could touching the Hōgyoku possibly do for him? From Urahara's perspective, the orb would have no effect on someone at Shiraha's current stage.
"Brother Shiraha, what are you trying to do with the Hōgyoku?" Yoruichi asked sharply, golden eyes narrowing.
"Mr. Urahara, Miss Yoruichi—you just said yourselves that the Hōgyoku manifests what lies within one's heart." Shiraha smiled faintly.
"That's true," Urahara replied, gaze steady, "but you don't seem to have anything that needs manifesting. Besides, using the Hōgyoku always carries hidden risks."
In Urahara's mind, Shiraha had no need of it. His Shikai alone already rivaled abilities far beyond normal limits. With time, he would naturally reach Bankai, magnifying his strength five to tenfold. And with Shiraha's peculiar ability, unless someone's Reiatsu dwarfed his by ten times, they couldn't even land a blow. With Bankai, that margin would widen absurdly. No Shinigami alive—not Yamamoto Genryūsai, not even the Royal Guard—could be one hundred times stronger in Reiatsu than Shiraha. In other words, Shiraha was already beyond needing the Hōgyoku's aid.
"Shiraha," Yoruichi pressed, "I know you want to grow stronger quickly, but Urahara's right. The Hōgyoku carries too many uncertainties. You don't need it."
"Miss Yoruichi, Mr. Urahara, you misunderstand." Shiraha shook his head with a wry smile. "I don't want the Hōgyoku to make me stronger."
A joke, really. Even the completed Hōgyoku could never compare to the potential of Shiraha's templates. He already carried the framework of Gojo Satoru—the Six Eyes, the Limitless technique, the boundless incantation of stopping power. That ability alone was a living paradox. And in time, he would unlock even greater templates, each beyond anything the Hōgyoku could offer.
"Then what do you want?" Yoruichi leapt lightly into Shiraha's arms, her feline gaze curious.
"Simple," Shiraha said gently. "I was born blind. I want to use the Hōgyoku to see if I can restore my sight."
The words were calculated. If he admitted his aim was strength, Urahara would refuse instantly. But a plea for something deeply human, deeply personal—this, Urahara might allow.
Urahara blinked. "But Shiraha… you can already perceive others through Reiatsu. Does restoring your eyes really make a difference?" His voice was curious, though a little careless.
"Idiot," Yoruichi snapped, cuffing Urahara on the head with her paw. "If you can't say it nicely, then don't say it at all."
She understood. For someone born in darkness, the hope of light—even the chance—was everything. How could Urahara not see that?
"Pain, pain, pain! Yoruichi-san, stop hitting me!" Urahara winced, then quickly corrected himself. "Shiraha, forgive me, that wasn't what I meant."
"Mr. Urahara, don't apologize. I'm used to it." Shiraha lowered his gaze, masking his glee behind a faintly sorrowful smile. His performance was flawless, convincing even to himself.
"Shiraha," Yoruichi said gently, "you don't need the Hōgyoku. Let Urahara research other methods. Maybe there's still a way."
"No, Miss Yoruichi. From the time I was a child, healers tried everything. Even Captain Unohana of the Fourth Division said my eyes couldn't be restored. The only hope left is the Hōgyoku."
This time, he wasn't lying. His grandfather had summoned every healer in Soul Society, even Retsu Unohana herself, but none had been able to undo the congenital blindness.
Urahara studied Shiraha's expression, then finally sighed. "Very well. I'll grant your request. But you must touch the Hōgyoku here, before both Tessai and me. If anything goes wrong, we'll intervene immediately."
"No problem." Shiraha's smile was calm, though his heart was racing with triumph.
"Brother Shiraha, be careful. If you feel anything wrong, speak up instantly." Yoruichi's voice was tight with concern.
"Don't worry, Miss Yoruichi." Shiraha gently rubbed her head, voice light with reassurance.
"With Tessai-san and me here, everything will be fine," Urahara added.
He pushed the sealed box forward, laying the Hōgyoku bare. The blue-black gemstone pulsed with quiet, dangerous radiance. Tessai and Yoruichi's eyes were fixed on Shiraha as he reached out.
The moment his fingertips brushed the Hōgyoku, the system voice echoed within his mind:
