The Hōgyoku in Urahara Kisuke's possession, and the one held by Aizen, each remained incomplete. Only when fused would they become the true, perfect Hōgyoku.
This time, the sign-in task won't be simple, Shiraha thought. He knew exactly where one of them was—hidden here in Urahara's hands—but getting close enough to touch it was another matter entirely. A direct grab was out of the question.
Completing this task would push his Gojo Satoru template to twenty percent, unlocking its exclusive ability and granting him a sharp leap in power. Ten percent more might seem small, but for Shiraha, it was worth the effort.
"Mr. Urahara, that Arrancar I fought was definitely artificial," Shiraha said, planting the first seeds. He had no intention of outright seizing the Hōgyoku—not when the reward was a mere ten percent progress. If it were a full hundred, maybe.
Besides, Urahara wasn't weak. With Yoruichi and Tessai at his side, even Shiraha couldn't guarantee success in a frontal clash.
"Yes, Shiraha. Your observation is sharp—Arrancar are indeed artificial." Urahara's eyes lingered on him, heavy with unspoken meaning.
"Impressive. But didn't you say most Arrancar evolve from mid-level Menos Grande—Adjuchas?" Shiraha took a sip of tea before continuing, his tone probing. "If so, why has the Soul Society never once reported Arrancar existing? All we know are Gillian, Adjuchas, and Vasto Lorde. Yet the Arrancar I fought in Naruki City was captain-class at least, perhaps beyond, like an upper Vasto Lorde.
"Mr. Urahara… how do you know so much? Did you make them yourself?"
As he spoke, Shiraha let his Reiatsu roll out, cold and oppressive, coiling around Urahara like a tightening net. His fingers brushed the hilt of his staff-blade. It was an act, of course—bait to draw the Hōgyoku into view—but convincing enough to fool anyone watching. Even he silently admired his own performance.
Tessai, sensing the surge, appeared in a blink, readying Kidō to restrain him.
"Mr. Tessai, stand down," Urahara said calmly.
"Brother Shiraha, don't be rash. Let Urahara explain," Yoruichi said, stepping out of his arms and pressing a paw to his hand. Her golden eyes held warning—she believed he might attack without listening.
Shiraha gave a cold nod. "Since Miss Yoruichi asks… fine. Explain." He retracted his Reiatsu, resheathed the blade, and kept his expression frosted.
Urahara exhaled, half a sigh, half a reluctant smile. "Alright, but not here. Come with me."
They moved inside, Tessai sealing the shop in a layered blue barrier. Soon, they stepped into a smaller, enchantment-laced chamber.
"Sit," Urahara said, settling onto a futon and pouring tea.
Shiraha sat opposite, voice still cool. "Now, Mr. Urahara. The truth."
"The Arrancar you fought were born from one thing," Urahara began.
Shiraha's brow furrowed, feigning confusion. "You mean there's a way to turn an Adjuchas into something equal to a Vasto Lorde?"
Urahara tapped the wall with his cane. A black-rimmed portal spiraled open, revealing a rectangular box layered in spells and seals. With a flick of his hand, he stripped away the barriers and opened it.
Inside, a gemstone glimmered with blue-black light.
"This is the Hōgyoku. I created it—accidentally. At first, I believed it simply broke the wall between Shinigami and Hollow, but its true ability is far greater: it manifests the desires of the heart, provided the person has the strength to realize them. And the power within it… far exceeds captain-class Reiatsu."
Shiraha kept his breathing steady, though inside, his mind raced.
"There are two Hōgyoku in this world," Urahara continued. "The other is in Aizen's possession. Those evolved Arrancar from Adjuchas—Aizen is likely using his to test its limits."
Shiraha bowed his head slightly, voice contrite. "Mr. Urahara, I'm sorry. I misunderstood you."
Inside, he was almost grinning. Urahara had told him nearly everything. Now, touching the Hōgyoku seemed far more possible.
"It's fine," Urahara replied with a wave. "Vigilance is no flaw."
"Mr. Urahara," Shiraha said, rising and bending at the waist, "since the Hōgyoku can manifest a person's innermost hopes… I have a request. Please—let me touch it."
