Blade of the Goddess

Chapter 284 - Descent of the Sentinels

The sentinels descended from the upper world, landing in a rocky terrain with no signs of life other than animals. They looked around, sensing that they were far away from civilization, so they flew toward the closest town.

But just then, a person appeared right in front of them, the person they were looking for, Zion Zagan.

"Perfect, just the person we were looking for. It would be boring waiting for you to come out of hiding while we searched for you." The male sentinel spoke.

"But I'm sure after killing all of your friends and family, you would have shown your face sooner or later. But whatever, since you're here, we can kill you, then go back to the divine realm to kill the gods."

The sentinels looked exactly like humans. The facial features, the way they spoke, acted, their expressions, everything. The female sentinel had black hair with silver eyes and a modest body.

The male sentinel had silver hair with black eyes, and he had a lean, muscular build, similar to Zion. They both wore loose clothing; the woman wore an outfit similar to Luminera, while the man wore a sleeveless open shirt with loose and baggy pants.

"What are you're names?" Zion asked, being polite and respectful.

"Brother! Brother! This one asked for our names! He's different from the rest!" The woman said with a happy expression.

"Hmm, indeed. Since you've shown your respect, human, we shall do the same. My name is Thanagar, and my sister's name is Nth. We are the Sentinels." They both bowed.

Zion, too bowed, respected them as they respected him.

"May I ask you a question?" Zion asked

"Speak." Thanagar nodded.

"Why are you coming after me?"

"Karyndra ordered us to." He said in a neutral tone.

"That's it?"

"Yup, yup! She said we'll be rewarded if we kill you! I can't wait! It's been so long since we had any fun. Ever since we killed the Devils 5,000 years ago, we've been sleeping, which is boring. I wanna kill!" Nth expressed.

"I see. Why do you guys obey her orders? You're Sentinels, beings stronger than gods. To listen to an angel is beneath you. She's fighting a war against gods and is losing. She needs your power, but what happens to you once she's done using you? She'll put you right back to sleep." Zion was trying to delay or, hopefully, not have a confrontation altogether.

"Liar! She said she'll reward us this time!" Nth shouted.

Thanagar placed his hand on his chin to think for a bit. "Hmm. I see your point, human. But we cannot go against her."

"Don't tell me you wish to serve her. You guys were built as weapons to serve one purpose: to kill. Yet, in front of me, I don't see killers; I see people who wish to have their own free will. You killed the Devils. Where was your reward then? No offense, but why does the strong listen to the weak? It's because they're being controlled because no one who is strong would ever listen to the weak."

Nth pouted and flapped her arms. "I don't understand! Speak normally!"

Thanagar thought more about what Zion was saying. It was true that he and his sisters were weapons made for killing and only killing, but they had feelings, a mind of their own, and they also wanted to do things like have fun and experience what each world had to offer.

"Maybe I'll ask that as my reward." He mumbled to himself.

Zion sighed, knowing that he didn't get anywhere. Seeing as how Thanagar decided to use what Zion said as his wish after killing him and the gods, he understood that they were completely bound to whatever programming was in their bodies.

"You make good points, human, but we have a mission to complete."

Zion nodded. "I understand. Thank you for hearing me out."

"It is the least I can do." Thanagar nodded.

"Great! The talking is over! Let's kill him now!" Nth hopped up and down with glee.

Zion smiled at the pair. "Let's have a good fight."

"Indeed."

*BOOOOOOOOOOOOOM*

Zion's most powerful space laser, amped by all of his other space lasers, rained down on the two with full force, holding nothing back.

"I know this isn't going to do anything to them, but hopefully it will buy me some time." Zion opened his fracture, traveling to the upperworld, making his way toward the nexus pool.

"Seriously? Why the fuck is it so far?" He rocketed off in that direction, powering up to the maximum.

Down below, angels spotted his presence and sounded the alarms. He didn't pay them any attention, though. He was focused on the task at hand, and he knew that without the nexus pool's power, he wouldn't be able to stand a chance against the Sentinals, so he needed to act fast.

"And where do you think you're going?!" A beam of light blasted Zion out of the air, sending him tumbling toward the ground.

He landed on his feet and spotted who attacked him.

Zion rolled his eyes, looking up at the eight-winged angel floating above him. "Karyndra, leave me alone. I already have a lot on my plate right now."

"Shut up! You killed my husband! I'll make you pay for that!" She shouted

"Husband? Azmorath was your husband? What the fuck! Well, who am I to judge? Love is love. But look, if you let me do what I've got to do, I'll take you to him, how about that?"

"Fucking annoying bastard!" She charged at him, but Zion teleported behind her and punched her so hard her spine snapped.

"ARGHHHHH!!"

"You're strong, as strong as Azmorath, but I can sense that you've used a lot of your energy fighting the gods. You can't face me in your current state, especially now with your back broken. Just stay put."

He took off once more. Soon, he spotted the Nexus pool. "Finally! More power, here I come!"

Right before he could touch the energy, his arm was sliced off, and he was kicked so hard his insides almost ruptured.

"Arghh! Fuck. That was quick." He chuckled, spitting blood out of his mouth while his body healed instantly.

"That attack was impressive." Thanagar nodded.

"But it was weak! Too weak to hurt us!" Nth shouted excitedly.

Sighing, Zion stood up and took a fighting stance. "Whatever, let's get this over with."
