Black Clover: Starting from the Sign-in

Chapter 8: Chapter 8: The Demon Who Calls Himself an Elf

As the severed head rolled to his feet, Kuroha's expression remained unchanged. He lowered his foot onto Ye Buqi's face.

Over the past year, as a drifter, he had long grown accustomed to life and death.

His hands had also been stained with the blood of many enemies.

In this world of survival of the fittest, killing or being killed was merely a matter of mindset.

"Ding! Detected host stepping on the head of Magic Chain Demon Ye Buqi during sign-in. Please wait..."

"Ding! Congratulations, host. Sign-in successful. You have acquired 'Ultimate Mana Control' and activated the character panel."

"Ding! The next sign-in location is the Magic Knight Exam grounds. Host, please proceed."

The ethereal voice of the system echoed again.

Kuroha felt a warm current surge directly into his mind, accompanied by a resounding boom.

The mana that had previously radiated from his body now seemed intricately linked to him.

No!

Rather, the mana now felt like an extension of himself—something he could wield with ease and precision.

Compared to before, it was a world of difference.

With this realization, the mana surging through Kuroha's body briefly paused before flooding back into him like a raging tide.

"He... he killed someone!"

Freed from the oppressive force of mana, Asta was the first to explode, flailing his arms and shouting.

Even Yuno, standing nearby, had turned pale.

Moments earlier, Kuroha had demonstrated overwhelming mana in the Zero Domain.

Now, he had instantly slain a former Magic Knight squad mage.

This level of power far exceeded Yuno's expectations, like an insurmountable mountain.

"Asta, shut up!" Kuroha opened his eyes after sensing his newfound control.

According to the original plot, Asta was supposed to obtain the anti-magic grimoire here.

"Why should I? You just killed someone. I... I think I should scream!" Asta blurted out naively.

However, Yuno quickly stepped in to stop him, glancing at the unfathomable Kuroha before biting his lip slightly and stepping forward.

"I don't know who you are, but I suggest you leave quickly. If someone comes, you'll get into trouble."

"Leave?" Kuroha glanced at Yuno. "Sorry, but I promised to help that idiot get a grimoire."

"Asta's grimoire?" Yuno was taken aback. "The magic tower is already closed. There's no way Asta can get a new grimoire."

Yuno felt a tinge of disappointment that Asta hadn't been chosen by a grimoire.

After all, the two had always been rivals.

He had even considered sneaking into the magic tower to ask the elder for another chance for Asta.

But the thought of an outsider helping Asta was something he couldn't accept.

In Yuno's eyes, Asta seemed to hold a special place.

"Impossible for you, perhaps, but for me, nothing is impossible," Kuroha replied curtly.

With a sharp gaze, he mobilized his mana instantly.

Although he lacked detection-type magic, this didn't mean he couldn't use overwhelming mana to locate hidden magical objects.

For example, when someone was struck by a surge of mana, their own mana would instinctively react in self-defense.

Not to mention a grimoire harboring a demon.

Boom!

Under Kuroha's precise control, his violent mana erupted without warning, spreading in a shockwave.

The sudden scene made Yuno tense up again, clutching his regained grimoire tightly.

Kuroha swung his right hand toward a nearby rock.

"Ice Creation Magic: Ice Lance!"

Bang!

The ice spear shattered the rock ten meters away.

From within the rubble, a black and red light shot out like an arrow, heading straight for Kuroha.

Before Yuno could react, the light halted abruptly three feet from Kuroha.

The glowing aura dissipated, revealing a rusty black grimoire.

Stunned by the unexpected development, Kuroha's thoughts raced.

Could the demon inside this grimoire have changed its mind and targeted him instead?

"A second grimoire?" Asta exclaimed in shock.

Even Yuno snapped out of his daze, stammering incredulously, "That... that's impossible. A person can only be chosen by one grimoire in their lifetime. You can't possibly have a second one..."

"Yuno's right! I don't even have a single grimoire!" Asta bit his shirt hem, on the verge of tears.

Someone possessing both Zero Domain mana and two grimoires?

That was infuriatingly unfair!

Despite their doubts, the demon within the grimoire seemed to respond.

The grimoire floating mid-air began flipping its pages rapidly.

Under everyone's gaze, it suddenly opened wide.

Endless blood-red light, thick and viscous like fresh blood, coalesced into a faint figure about a foot tall on the grimoire.

Its sinister eyes fixed on Kuroha, and a hoarse voice echoed.

"Lucky boy, your battle just now was truly impressive. That's why I chose you!"

"I forgot to tell you, I reside in this grimoire and wield powerful anti-magic. You should feel honored to be chosen by me!"

The eerie tone carried an air of temptation.

However, neither Kuroha, Yuno, nor even the ever-naïve Asta seemed inclined to believe this self-proclaimed "spirit" demon.
