Billionaire: Money and Power

Chapter 31: Chapter 31 – "The First Move"

A Silent War Begins

Joshua sat in the dimly lit lounge of a five-star hotel, his fingers tapping lightly against the glass of whiskey in his hand. Across from him, a man in an expensive suit watched him with an unreadable expression.

The Order had finally invited him in.

Or rather, they were testing him.

"Impressive," the man said, setting down his own drink. "Most people don't even get this far."

Joshua smirked. "Most people aren't me."

The man chuckled. "Fair enough. But let's be clear—you're not one of us yet. Before we even consider extending a real invitation, you'll have to prove yourself."

Joshua leaned back, swirling his drink. "I figured as much. So what's the job?"

The man placed a single envelope on the table. "There's someone causing problems for us. We need them… handled."

Joshua raised an eyebrow. "Handled how?"

The man smiled. "You decide. Just make sure they disappear."

Joshua glanced at the envelope, then back at the man. "And if I say no?"

The man shrugged. "Then this conversation never happened."

Joshua exhaled. He wasn't a hitman. But this wasn't about killing someone—it was about sending a message.

The Order wanted to see what kind of man he was.

Fine. He'd show them.

A Target in the Dark

Joshua stepped out into the cool night air, the envelope tucked in his jacket. He could feel Tunde's eyes on him as they walked to the car.

"So?" Tunde asked.

Joshua slid into the passenger seat, tossing the envelope onto the dashboard. "They want me to deal with someone."

Tunde frowned. "And you're actually considering it?"

Joshua didn't answer. He opened the envelope, pulling out a photograph.

A woman. Mid-thirties. Sharp eyes. Expensive suit.

Name: Angela Eze.

Joshua narrowed his eyes. "She's not just some random target."

Tunde glanced at the picture. "She's a politician. One of the loud ones."

Joshua nodded. Angela had been making noise about corruption, digging into powerful figures.

So the Order wanted her gone.

But why?

And more importantly… who was she really threatening?

A Different Approach

Instead of going in guns blazing, Joshua did what he did best—he gathered information.

Angela wasn't dirty. At least, not in the usual way. She wasn't working for rival politicians. She wasn't backed by any major criminal groups.

She was just honest.

And that made her dangerous.

Joshua sighed, rubbing his temples. This wasn't just about proving himself to the Order. This was about choosing how he played the game.

So he made a call.

Angela picked up after two rings. "Who is this?"

Joshua smiled. "Someone who just saved your life."

Silence. Then—"Excuse me?"

Joshua leaned back. "There's a group that wants you dead. And they asked me to do it."

Angela didn't speak, but he could hear her breathing shift. She was processing.

"What do you want?" she finally asked.

Joshua smirked. "To have a little chat."

The Deal

They met in an underground parking garage, away from prying eyes.

Angela was exactly how he expected—calm, sharp, and ready for anything.

"You could've just killed me," she said, crossing her arms. "So why didn't you?"

Joshua slid his hands into his pockets. "Because I don't kill people just because someone tells me to."

She studied him for a long moment. "And now what? You think you can protect me?"

Joshua chuckled. "I don't need to. I just need to make you too valuable to kill."

Angela frowned. "And how do you plan to do that?"

Joshua's smirk widened. "By making them need you more than they hate you."

The Countermove

Joshua knew the Order operated on power, not morality. If Angela had something they wanted, they wouldn't kill her.

So he started spreading a rumor.

Whispers in the right ears.

Hints to the right people.

Soon, word spread—Angela had evidence. Something big. Something that could expose people inside the Order itself.

It wasn't true.

But they didn't know that.

And when powerful people don't know something?

They panic.

A Shift in the Game

A week later, Joshua got another call.

The same man from the hotel.

"You're either very smart or very stupid," the man said.

Joshua smirked. "I like to think I'm both."

The man exhaled. "Angela lives… for now. But don't think this means we trust you."

Joshua chuckled. "I don't need your trust. Just your respect."

Silence. Then—"We'll be in touch."

The call ended.

Joshua leaned back in his chair, exhaling.

The Order was watching.

And now?

They needed him.
