Chapter 227: Chapter 227: Devonshire Excavator
After seeing Dali and his group off, it was nearly 6 o'clock. William's mother instructed the servants to prepare dinner. William sat in the hall, watching the news and chatting with his mother while waiting for dinner. As for buying horses, he was no longer worried. Dozens of Akhal-Teke horses cost only about 10 million pounds, a small matter that Anthony could handle. The Matters Law Firm not only had professional lawyers but had also expanded its business and merged with a large accounting firm to form a group that was starting to venture into the financial industry.
After having dinner with his mother, William bid her goodbye and went to his study. Entering the study, he closed the door and sat at his desk, starting to write and draw on a piece of paper. After much thought, William decided that the safest place to hide the Templar treasure was in his own castle.
However, the treasure in New York was too vast, and his basement wasn't big enough to store it all. Moreover, if he placed it directly in the basement, his mother would be scared out of her wits once she found out. William also couldn't explain how he obtained such a large treasure and transported it into the basement. He certainly couldn't tell his mother that it was brought in through a portal. William would never reveal the secrets of the system and magic to anyone, not even to his mother, wife, or children.
Since the basement wasn't secure and the outside of the castle was even less so, he decided to create an independent space. With his storage space, teleportation magic, and various other magics, he could directly dig several parallel tunnels next to the existing escape tunnel to store the treasure.
William had considered digging another basement below the current one, but since there was a river not far from the castle, digging deeper could risk water infiltration. In the end, he decided that creating parallel tunnels along the already dry escape route, which had remained dry for hundreds of years, was a much safer option. Additionally, parallel digging was easier than digging downward.
Feeling happy with his treasure plan, he got up and went to the basement. He entered the basement after inputting the password, fingerprints, and retinal scan. He put all the items in his storage space into the basement and activated the mechanism of the escape tunnel. He walked inside and touched the tunnel wall, thinking 'Collect.' To his surprise, it worked, and a half-meter hole appeared in the wall. After several attempts, the storage space was filled with stones and dirt. William laughed as he looked at the one-cubic-meter hole in the wall.
Now he just needed to find a safe place to teleport the dirt. Considering modern technology and the numerous satellites continuously taking pictures, he wasn't foolish enough to open a teleportation portal to the wilderness where the light from the portal might be seen or captured by satellites. Being cautious wouldn't hurt. Finding an abandoned mine in England was easy, and there were several coal mines that had been abandoned for over a hundred years not far from the castle.
Brushing off the dirt from his clothes, he quickly left the basement and drove about ten kilometers away. After half an hour, he arrived at the mining area. He drove his Land Rover around the area, scanning with his mental power for over an hour to ensure there was no one in the mining area. He then found a large mine shaft and drove the Land Rover directly inside. After driving for a few minutes, he saw a large mine, which made him very happy. He set the teleportation coordinates, turned the car around, and left the mine. Before leaving, he used an earth magic spell to collapse the mine's entrance. Listening carefully, he didn't hear any further collapses inside the mine, so he left satisfied and drove back home.
Returning home, he hurried to the basement, closed the door, and opened a teleportation portal to the mining area. He emptied the dirt from his storage space into the air over the mine. Seeing that it worked well, he thought to himself with a smile, "If anyone ever offends me, I'll throw them into this mine. If they don't suffocate, they'll starve to death."
With a place to dispose of the dirt, William began his laborious excavator life. After three hours of work, he had only managed to dig a 2.5-meter-high, 3-meter-wide, 2-meter-long tunnel, reinforcing it with earth magic to harden the walls as he went. Exhausted, he sat down on the hardened dirt floor to rest, thinking that some of the antiques in the New York treasure were three to four meters high. He decided to bring the gold, jewelry, and smaller items home first.
After resting until his mental power recovered, he saw that it was already 1 a.m. Goodness, how long would this take? He decided to sleep first and continue tomorrow. After taking a comfortable shower, he collapsed into bed and fell asleep.
The next morning, he didn't wake up until 10 a.m. Yawning, he went downstairs and asked the servant to prepare a simple breakfast. "Where did my mother go?"
"Sir, the lady went to Oxford University at 8 a.m. I heard Miss Tina wants to apply for Oxford University, so the lady accompanied her to the admissions office."
Haha, little Tina wants to get into Oxford University? Maybe she bought her way in. William waved the servant away, "Got it, you can go now. I'll eat by myself."
"Yes, sir. Call me if you need anything."
After breakfast, William took a walk in the garden to motivate himself. Thinking about the massive treasure in New York, he gritted his teeth and resumed his excavation work. He took a short break for lunch and continued digging until 5 p.m. Realizing that his mother would be back soon, he stopped, changed out of his dirty clothes, took a shower, and then sat in the garden's shade, sipping coffee while waiting for his mother.
Half an hour later, his mother and Tina returned, laughing as they got out of the car. Seeing William leisurely drinking coffee under the tree, Lena complained, "You come home and don't even take me out shopping. What were you doing in the basement last night?"
William raised his hand to greet Tina and replied, "Nothing much, just organizing some files. By the way, Mom, why did you go to Oxford University today?"
Tina stood beside Lena, smiling politely. This made William very curious. What was up with this girl? Had she taken the wrong medicine or fallen for someone else?
Seeing William staring at Tina, his mother said irritably, "Tina wants to follow in your footsteps, so she needs to study more."
"Is that so? Tina, you're still young and do need to study more. Learning more will benefit you," William said, hesitating. "Can you get into Oxford? How about I find some private tutors for you?"
Tina, who was smiling, immediately glared at William. "Hmph, William underestimates me. Just because you're smart doesn't mean everyone else is stupid. I'm not talking to you anymore. Aunt Lena, let's go make dinner." She pulled Lena into the main castle, making a face at William as they left.
