Beyond SSS-Rank After Getting The God System

Chapter 154: Ascension Dinner Part 2

When the children had finished dessert and made a nest on the couch with their siblings, the adults stepped outside and Illum demonstrated his unique divinity. It manifested like a tree rapidly growing from seed to sprout and then fashioned itself into a wooden sword that hummed with power.

"Right, I get it. You don't want to simply fight on nature's behalf, you want to simply be the means by which nature defends itself. I don't get it though, this divinity is insanely powerful, why would you let a stranger learn about it?"

"Powerful, I'm not sure I understand, it's true that the blades can carve through anything and they can also carve open divinity channels, not to mention heal those touched by it... But, I don't see it as powerful as other unique divinities."

"Well as a goodwill gesture, if you forgive my arrogance, I'll teach you the truth of it."

Illum looked more than a little insulted, but nodded, eager to learn what secrets Carl seemed to have gleamed after they eluded him for eons.

Carl conjured his own, earning a nod of respect from the elves, then he cut his own hand. "Now could you please block my swing, I need to put my all into it, but you should have no problems blocking my poultry numbers."

Illum nodded and Carl swung with full intent to cut Illum across the chest, pulling back after contact in anticipation of his guard failing.

As Carl dropped his sword to the floor to show he wasn't a threat, Illum dropped his and examined his now bleeding palm. "Sorry, but your power is exceptional, the swords it makes are manifestations of the law of Life's own survival instinct. They can essentially do anything the law of Life itself could do."

Illum examined his palm. "It seems I have been close-minded and painfully ignorant of my own power. I appreciate you sharing this with me, many would have used the new power to kill us and remove a threat that might one day stand in their way."

"Meh, if you do I'll put you in traitor's ice until I can bring you back to your senses."

Illum looked at Eldorlora again, who simply nodded back at him.

"Carl, I wish to enter into a formal agreement with you. You have proven an ally both trustworthy, insightful and most importantly, compassionate. To delay would be a waste of everyone's time and ultimately cause needless concern."

"I'm happy to, but you won't be able to explain any of this to your people, will they accept a treaty with a human after one dinner and no thought?"

"There may be some backlash, but I mean a full co-existence pact, not a mere alliance." Everyone behind Carl practically pinched themselves.

"Sorry I'm still new to all this, would you be offended if I left it to Kyubi and the others with me? Agreeing to things I don't understand would be stupid, not that I don't trust you but I don't intend to treat anyone differently."

"I can accept that, would you mind if we returned tomorrow so we can have some level of discussion with our people."

"Sure, I'd feel much better about it that way as well. I have a few things to do tomorrow though, so why don't we meet at about lunch time."

"Of course. May I ask what things?"

"I'm taking Kyubi to Tsukuyomi's realm to re-bless her kimono, she is moving on from the past and the pains that she experienced, but I don't want her detaching from the good bits as well.

Then I have to go to Lugaria, I'm going to claim the world I rendered isolated, then give it to the people my affairs troubled after they were kind enough to extend their hospitality."

"The latter is admirable, but is the former really possible? I fear my pride may resent my second-guessing you again, but I simply can't fathom how you intend to bestow the blessing of a god no longer among us."

"Me either, but my ability to fathom something rarely affects my ability to do it, so I'm just working on a gut-feeling and desire to give Kyubi a gift."

Eldorlora chuckled alone, her more reserved persona cracking finally. "If you were so thoughtful Illum we would have been married sooner."

"Yes, because it was so helpful the way you used to complain about everything I did, you'd have just attacked me for daring to presume you wanted anything I had to give."

Carl and Klaire looked at, then away from each other, as a glimpse of their own future played out before their eyes to everyone's amusement.

"Well, we will take our leave, I look forward to hearing how the venture goes. You have my thanks for hosting us this evening.

"Mine as well, I find myself craving private conversation with Klaire and Kyubi, so I look forward to that after the pact is signed. Unfortunately elves are practically infertile and we have no children to introduce, but I look forward to getting to know yours."

With that the elven gods departed and as the portal crackled shut behind them...

"You two handled that expertly, to think those two took a liking to you." Kyubi said as she hugged them both.

"Indeed, they aren't known for being easy to get along with, most of us have had... issues with them in the past." Bahamut said with a short clap.

"Well, try to put that past you, no trying to get an apology for some slight or argument." Carl didn't hide the fact he was looking directly at Lillim as he spoke.

"Fine, but I will get it one way or another." Lillim huffed as she threw her hands up in defeat. "I'll take my leave, the bar is almost ready for opening and I have a few applicants forms to look at."

"Yes and I have a bath calling me." Tiamat said quickly after.

"I have to go and find a place to pretend to be busy." Faylorna followed.

"I guess that means that writing the contract is up to me..." Bahamut grumbled.

"Ask Gillian to assist you, I still intend to leave diplomacy to him eventually and shadowing you on this will be invaluable."

Bahamut nodded then disappeared.

Leaving the others to return inside and join the children in their nest on the couch.

"You know, Tiamutael never used to seem very similar to us at all, then I saw him hyperfocus on kid-vids and it's like "oh yeah, that's definitely Carl's kid"." Klaire laughed.

"Did Carl used to watch these too?" Kyubi whispered, trying not to disturb the children.

"Constantly, growing up on earth in the wastes, he never knew anything about them. Then he discovered them and got addicted just like Tiamutael." Klaire giggled before they both pinched one of Carl's cheeks gently.

"Tiamutael... Can't believe I'm saying this... Let's use maneuver X-4, this enemy is too strong."

Tiamutael jumped up as though Carl activated a secret code word then turned around and jumped towards them all, then as everyone but Carl leant back to avoid getting hit, then as Carl grabbed him and Squidge, they teleported to Tiamutael's bedroom and settled in to watch shows just the two of them.

[ GROUP MESSAGE SENT FROM CARL : YOU GUYS WATCH WHATEVER, WE'RE HAVING FATHER SON TIME. ]

[ GROUP MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM KLAIRE : COWARD... HAVE FUN BOYS WE'RE GOING TO WATCH A VID THEN HAVE A BATH, WANT THE LOUNGE WHEN WE'RE DONE? ]

[ GROUP MESSAGE RECEIVED FROM TIAMUTAEL : NOPE SLEEPOVER WITH DAD AND SQUIDGE SOUNDS FUN. ]

When the boys disappeared, Klaire put on a vid she had been meaning to watch since before the material gathering test and started snuggling Raziel, whilst Kyubi and Kitsunoko grabbed some snacks.

When they sat down together however, the vid very quickly got relegated to background noise whilst the girls spoke about ideas for the wedding.

"Mums, whose actually officiating the wedding?"

"Well Lillim did a good job last time, but I was thinking Gaia might be a good choice as she has become invested in us thanks to Rhea and even helped Carl come to terms with our new relationship dynamic."

"Yay, I was thinking the same thing, so happy you want her to as well."

Then the topic became wedding dresses and they completely abandoned the vid and the display was used to look at different wedding dresses.

"They haven't changed much since incursion day." Kyubi said with distracted wonder.

"Well it makes sense, when the way the world works changes overnight, I guess people wanted to hold onto something familiar." Klaire replied as she tried to empathise with that point.

After the future brides had got their share of ideas, they looked to the girls, moving on to the subject of what part they would play in the ceremony and what they would wear.

As the night wore on, they had begun planning in earnest without even realising it.

"I wonder if Dad, Squidge and Tiamutael are talking about it..." Raziel mused, earning a comment about her naivety from her sisters.

---Back in Tiamutael's room---

Tiamutael stood in front of his dad and brother, then punched the air with his right fist, stomped his left foot then pivoted ninety-degrees to his left as he withdrew the fist in the air. "Super Colour Justice team, go!"

Carl shook his head. "No, no, no... Swap with me..." He then done the same thing but with his left fist, right foot, pivoted to the right and shouted, as he narrated his own actions, though yelling the same thing at the end as Tiamutael's eyes began to sparkle and he stood up to try again.

As this happened, Squidge continued to watch the show itself as it played on the display, reciting the lines that had been burned into his memory when Carl used to watch them practically on repeat.
