Becoming an Accidental God in a New World

Chapter 96: Ch 96- Normal Life- Part 1

The evening quickly came and it was time for me to close the shop. So I quickly gathered my supplies before I taught the twins where things needed to go.

With their help, clearing up and closing was a much faster process. And then it was time to take them out on a walk.

Fenrir was already getting impatient with leash in hand to get out, and Nyx looked interested in walking him out.

I locked the door to my shop and put up a 'Closed' sign before I joined the kids.

"Are you both ready to explore this place? Do not go too far away from me or you might get lost… or worse, get kidnapped. Alright?"

I reminded the pair and they looked a little afraid but determined at the same time. Their eyes shined as they looked at me with determination.

"We are ready… but where are we heading toward?"

Nyx's voice sounded curious. She had started to open up to me and ask me questions. Erebus was still a lot shyer compared to his sister, but at least he was no longer hiding himself.

"We're just going to buy some food and I will show you other important landmarks of this town that might come in handy for you in the future."

I told the twins and they followed me silently.

Everyone who saw and recognized me looked curious to know more about these twins and who they were. I could read the desire in their eyes. They wanted to approach me and ask questions.

But in the end, they were too afraid to come close to me and speak to me.

My first question about the twins came from the baker lady as she looked at my new company.

"Shopkeeper, welcome back… and who are these kids? They don't look anything like you, so they are likely not family… OMG! Did you kidnap them?"

She asked as she looked at the kids and then at me.

I had to clarify this misunderstanding before it had the time to flame into something bigger. And I chose the same lie I had told Miss Shelly.

"These are my older sister's kids. Well, she was adopted so the kids look nothing like her. Don't worry, they are legally with me."

I told the baker and now she looked sorry for me instead of the kids.

Adoption was a sensitive issue in the current times. Only the families that had no hope of ever having a kid adopted one to continue the line. And when those families had their own kid, things got messy.

The baker lady likely thought I had gone through the same as I watched her pitiful eyes looking at me.

"Oh my—! Is that so… anyway, what would you like to have today?"

She was good at changing the subject and I allowed her to do that. I turned toward the kids and allowed them to choose.

Of course, Fenrir took this as a chance to choose as well and he wanted everything that was on display.

I sighed as I watched these kids play around before choosing something. It was so exhausting to take them around.

Once we had the food, I took them to the station where the claw machine was. As soon as the twins saw it, they paused and their eyes narrowed.

"Is something wrong?"

I asked the pair because they had gone quiet all of a sudden. They turned to look at me at once before Nyx spoke up about what worried her.

"That… thing… it's oozing with Goddess Helia's power. Is the goddess trying to take control of your territory? Do you want us to help you drive her power out?"

Nyx asked as she glared at the machine. I had a feeling that she would even keep her word if I allowed her to.

But I quickly shook my head to tell her that there was no need.

"No, it's fine. You do not have to do anything. That machine is a collaboration between me and Goddess Helia. It's completely safe. Would you like to try it out?"

I asked the twins and they looked startled.

There was desire in their eyes to approach the machine and try it out, but also hesitation.

"Are… you sure this is safe? I don't feel so confident about approaching it."

Nyx told me as she walked toward the machine before she touched it. The machine remained unresponsive.

I sighed at the kids' hesitation. It was clear that their childhood had affected them a lot.

So I made the decision of picking up Erebus and taking him to the machine myself. I just… underestimated how heavy the kid would be.

'Fuck—! Why is he so heavy? Why am I so weak? I better look for something to increase my strength next.'

I reminded myself as I put Erebus in front of the machine. He looked hesitant before he touched the machine and clicked at it.

A slip and a small box came out of the machine and he took it. He opened the slip to read, but when either Nyx or I came close, he closed the slip and hesitated before putting it back in his pocket.

"Erebus, are you not going to show what you just got to us?"

I asked in a teasing voice and he paused before shaking his head. The poor kid was clearly hesitant about what was going on.

Even Nyx's attempts to get Erebus to share were unsuccessful. The poor girl pouted as she felt neglected by her twin brother.

I felt sorry for her so I decided to drag her for her turn next. Erebus looked at us and his mouth opened and closed. It seemed as if he wanted to say something to us, but in the end, chose not to speak up.

Nyx got her message as well, but unlike her brother, she chose not to hide it from us.

"You will find your path and get to choose your home soon. Do not hesitate when that time comes… what kind of message is this?"
