Chapter 61: Secret Realm and Thunder Fruit
"Principal Chen, did you find any good talents this time?" A middle-aged burly man smiled as he spoke to the communication bracelet.
"Even you, the grand director of the Cyan Dragon Daoist School, have started to personally recruit people." Chen Haoxiang responded with a smile.
"You know the difficulties I face. Our Cyan Dragon Daoist School hasn't produced any decent talent these past years, and I've been under pressure from above. If I don't deliver results soon, my time as director will be up." The burly man said with a bitter smile.
"Have you been in contact with the girl from the Zhang Family?"
"We contacted the Zhang Family a month ago, along with the five Daoist schools, but unfortunately, their strength is too formidable. They don't even care for the cultivation resources we offered."
"The Ji Family, Qian Family, and Zhao Family also have produced three young geniuses. Haven't you approached them?" Chen Haoxiang asked with a smile.
"Alas, our school's budget is limited, and we couldn't outcompete them." The middle-aged man replied regretfully.
"Well, besides these four, I do have a candidate in mind. I'll send you his information and footage of his combat assessment shortly."
"Thank you so much. I just got some good tea and will bring it to you tomorrow for a taste." The middle-aged man said with a smile.
A moment later, the middle-aged man's communication bracelet received some information.
The man clicked on the data to examine it.
"I didn't expect him to be a straight-A student, with a decent cultivation speed. His family background is a bit lacking, but that makes it easier to recruit him. Eh? His cultivation talent is only at Yellow Rank Upper Grade. Did Principal Chen make a mistake?" The middle-aged man mumbled to himself.
After thinking for a bit, the middle-aged man clicked on the combat assessment footage.
Moments later, the middle-aged man suddenly stood up, his eyes full of shock as he watched the youth in the footage.
He took a deep breath to suppress his inner excitement and quickly dialed a number.
"Li Wen, I'm sending you some information shortly. Make sure to sign him tomorrow. The contract level is tentatively set at C-level."
"C-level, that high? Is he a genius?"
"Sort of, he might have a unique talent."
The next day, Chu Chen arrived at the Daoist school as usual.
"The straight-A student is here. How did you do on the combat assessment?" Zhou Ying asked with a smile as she appeared beside Chu Chen.
Chu Chen smiled in response, "Had a bit of luck, managed to clinch first place."
Zhou Ying was shocked, "Are you serious?"
Chu Chen looked at the other party, perplexed by her surprise, but he still nodded.
Zhou Ying seemed to realize something. She tapped Chu Chen's shoulder and said solemnly, "Wait a moment, I'm going to make a call." She said and hurried away.
At this moment, Chu Chen's phone rang. He took a look at the screen and saw an unfamiliar number. He considered hanging up but decided to answer, fearing it might be someone he knew.
"Hello!"
"Hello, is this Chu Chen?"
"Yes, it is. What do you need?"
"I'm from the Cyan Dragon Daoist School..."
Chu Chen immediately hung up, saying disdainfully, "Scammers on Blue Star are so lame, this kind of spiel sounds like a newbie."
The phone rang again, and Chu Chen glanced at it, seeing it was the same number as before, he decisively hung up again.
"These days, scammers are truly dedicated."
In the Cyan Dragon Daoist School office, a beautiful lady in work attire looked at the communication bracelet, bewildered.
This was the first time she had encountered such a situation. Usually, people would flatter her upon hearing about the Cyan Dragon Daoist School, but this time she was rebuffed.
"What's the deal with this Chu Chen? Does he have a grudge against the Cyan Dragon Daoist School? That can't be right. If there was a grudge, it would be in the records," the lady thought to herself.
Unwilling to give up, she dialed Chu Chen's number again, only to find that she had been blocked.
This left the lady feeling quite annoyed, but recalling the task assigned by the director yesterday, she swallowed her pride.
She left the school, summoned her Guardian Beast, and hurried towards the distance.
At that moment, Zhou Ying returned with a smile and directly brought Chu Chen to the office.
"Sister Zhou, what's this all about? Why is it so mysterious?" Chu Chen asked, puzzled.
Zhou Ying didn't answer but gestured to the chair opposite the desk, saying with a smile, "No rush, let's sit down and chat slowly."
Chu Chen, hearing this, could only comply.
"Chu Chen, you've been at the Daoist school for over a month now. What do you think of our school?"
Chu Chen replied somewhat helplessly, "Sister Zhou, we're quite familiar with each other, just say whatever you need to say."
Zhou Ying wasn't embarrassed at all but smiled, saying, "I like talking to smart people. You haven't met my father so far, do you know why?"
Chu Chen was taken aback, never thinking about this since he'd been focused on his cultivation.
Chu Chen shook his head, "No idea, is Sister Zhou calling me because of the director?"
"Yes, because of my father. His Guardian Beast, the Flying Thunder Eagle, was severely injured during a Secret Realm exploration. After treatment, its wounds have mostly healed but left hidden ailments, reducing its affinity for the Thunder Element. It releases skills at half the speed compared to other Guardian Beasts. Thus, my father has been seeking medical help outside and hasn't returned for several months." Zhou Ying said solemnly.
Chu Chen was shocked upon hearing this. Knowing that the Flying Thunder Eagle is a Lord Level Guardian Beast, he didn't expect to find a Great Soul Master level expert hidden in such a small school.
"Sister Zhou, are you asking me because of this?" Chu Chen asked hesitantly.
Zhou Ying nodded in response.
Seeing this, Chu Chen quickly declined, "Sister Zhou, you must be joking. I'm just a poor Soul Pupil, what kind of Divine Elixir could I possibly have?"
Zhou Ying laughed, "Look at how scared you are, I know your background well. This time I'm asking you to contribute, not money, but effort."
Chu Chen frowned, "What do you mean by effort?"
Zhou Ying didn't answer but instead asked in return, "You know about Secret Realms, right?"
"Of course I do. A Secret Realm is an Alternate Space formed by spatial rifts cutting through a space and sealing it within. This is what we refer to as a Secret Realm. It appears randomly and will disappear again after a period," Chu Chen replied.
Zhou Ying nodded approvingly, "Good, your foundational knowledge is solid. Secret Realms are categorized into nine levels, Level 1 being the lowest and Level 9 the highest, corresponding to our cultivation levels. Also, the level of the Secret Realm determines the threshold for entry. For example, First-Level Secret Realms can only be entered by Soul Pupil level Beast Masters. If someone tries to force entry, they will be expelled by the Secret Realm. If their strength is too overwhelming and the realm can't expel them, it will disappear."
"Could there be treasures in the Secret Realm to heal the Flying Thunder Eagle?"
Zhou Ying nodded, "A month ago, my father found a way to treat the Flying Thunder Eagle."
"What method?" Chu Chen eagerly inquired.
"By consuming a Thunder Fruit, the Flying Thunder Eagle's hidden ailment can be eliminated."
"Thunder Fruit, what kind of Star Treasure is this?"
Zhou Ying shook her head, "Thunder Fruit isn't a Star Treasure, but a Yellow Rank Middle Grade Heavenly and Earthly Treasure."
