Ch. 25
Chapter 25: Cunning Bandit Cultivators
'This…' Chen Beiwu paused slightly.
Though he had no idea what the other party was babbling about, as a late-stage Qi Refining cultivator, he could still grasp the general meaning through expression and body language.
If Chen Beiwu guessed correctly, this unknown female cultivator was likely begging him for help, even going so far as to entice him with her beauty.
"Woof woof!" Iron Egg barked twice in warning.
The next moment, the lush forest exploded. Ancient trees as thick as vats snapped with a crack, stirring up a massive cloud of dust.
A burly man with a scarred face stepped over the fallen tree with a sinister grin, followed closely by a cultivator with a cold, sharp gaze.
The latter’s robe was stained with blood, and he held a longsword-shaped artifact in hand.
"&***!" (You little lass sure can run!) The burly man laughed heartily.
"&?" (Who's this?) The sharp-eyed cultivator looked at Chen Beiwu with a surprised gaze.
Seeing the two appear, Lin Yu’s face turned even more panic-stricken.
"&…@@%!" (Save me!)
She tilted her neck up, her pale, scallion-like fingers tightly clutching Chen Beiwu’s robes. The desperate plea on her face, combined with the dark strands of hair stuck to the bleeding wound on her shoulder, formed a pitiful image that stirred sympathy.
The burly man and the sharp-eyed cultivator exchanged a glance. It seemed they sensed that Chen Beiwu was not someone easy to provoke, and hesitation flickered in their eyes.
Chen Beiwu gave Lin Yu a long look, circulated his internal spiritual power, and with one kick, broke her grip. His expression remained calm as he stepped back several zhang, signaling that he would not involve himself in this vendetta.
Lin Yu fell to her knees in the muddy ground, the hope in her eyes gradually replaced by despair. Her face turned ashen.
Seeing this scene, both the burly man and the sharp-eyed cultivator were momentarily stunned before grinning maliciously.
Indeed, the two of them—one at the Seventh Level of Qi Refining and the other at the Sixth—were among the top marauders of Cangshen Mountain.
Although Chen Beiwu’s strength seemed decent, any cultivator with a brain wouldn’t risk their life for a female cultivator who had nothing to do with them.
The burly man lifted his chin slightly at Chen Beiwu, giving a friendly nod.
Since the other party gave face, there was no need to press the matter. Pushing it further would seem forced.
The sharp-eyed cultivator stepped forward and slashed open Lin Yu’s robes with a single strike, exposing a large swath of snow-white skin.
The latter seemed utterly hopeless and gave up resisting, allowing the sharp-eyed cultivator to touch her as he pleased.
"&|?" (Fellow Daoist, care to join?) He turned to Chen Beiwu with a lecherous grin, issuing an invitation.
Chen Beiwu frowned slightly, tapped his toes, and vanished from the forest with Iron Egg.
Seeing this, the scar-faced burly man, who was on guard, sighed in relief and walked over to Lin Yu. He exchanged glances with the sharp-eyed cultivator, and both of them let out a perverse chuckle.
A few minutes later, the despair on Lin Yu’s face suddenly vanished. She slapped the burly man on the head.
"Is he a turtle reincarnated? How can a cultivator be so patient in this world!" she said angrily.
The sharp-eyed cultivator clenched his jaw and hesitated. "Should we go after him? It’s rare to come across such a fat sheep. It’d be a pity to miss out."
"Wouldn’t that be too risky? Cultivators from the Five Great Sects have complete inheritances. If we go head-to-head, even all three of us together might not be able to win," the scar-faced man said timidly.
"Forget it. We’ve only got one life. Better not take unnecessary risks." Though tempted, Lin Yu ultimately rejected the sharp-eyed cultivator’s suggestion.
If you strike the snake and don’t kill it, it’ll come back to bite.
This target was different from previous rogue cultivators.
Rogues had no backing. Even if they couldn’t be killed, offending them was no big deal. They could just pack up and run, setting ambushes elsewhere.
But cultivators from the Five Great Sects were different!
Even if they weren’t powerful, their ability to call for backup was top-notch.
Without absolute certainty of killing him, Lin Yu had no intention of ambushing a late-stage Qi Refining cultivator from the Five Great Sects.
"What a pity," the sharp-eyed cultivator sighed.
"Wait!" Lin Yu suddenly tilted her neck, revealing a graceful swan-like curve. "Don’t you feel something’s wrong?"
The burly man and the sharp-eyed cultivator exchanged puzzled looks. "What could be wrong? We acted perfectly."
"Careful."
Sensing a fluctuation in spiritual power, Lin Yu shoved the burly man away and used the force to retreat backward.
"Boom!"
"Boom!"
"Boom!"
The misty air in the dense forest surged like a living thing, converging into three chains of water.
One pierced the sharp-eyed cultivator’s chest, binding him in place. Another struck at the burly man, who blocked it with a shield artifact.
The final water chain missed, evaded by the quick-reacting Lin Yu.
"Damn it, that guy is still here!"
The sharp-eyed cultivator twisted his wrist and slashed at the watery cage binding him, unaware of the flicker of flame silently appearing behind him.
"Tong Yu, behind you!"
Just as Lin Yu shouted, Iron Egg had already lunged, jaws wreathed in flame, and bit savagely at Tong Yu’s neck while he was still recovering and vulnerable.
Tong Yu’s eyes narrowed. Ignoring the incoming attack, he thrust his longsword at Iron Egg’s belly.
"Courting death—just a low-tier beast dares to attack—"
Tong Yu’s scorn froze in his throat. His terrified gaze swept across the exploding droplets around him. "Spare… me!"
Chen Beiwu clenched his right hand, shattering the defensive barrier around Tong Yu with a bang. Hundreds of water needles powerful enough to pierce stone tore through his body.
Using the Water Prison Technique to bind, and Iron Egg’s feint, he defeated a Sixth Level Qi Refining cultivator in just two moves.
"What are you waiting for?!"
Seeing the scar-faced man hesitate, Lin Yu quickly pulled out a Soul-Piercing Nail with bloodstains from a hidden fold in her inner clothes and secretly palmed it.
The Soul-Piercing Nail was a notorious Second-Tier sinister artifact from the Southern Wastes. It required the blood and vengeful spirits of dozens of wrongful deaths to craft through blood sacrifice.
When activated, it made no sound. Even if a cultivator’s divine sense surpassed the caster’s, they wouldn’t notice it. Once embedded in the body, it would bind the three souls, making it impossible to circulate spiritual power—even for peak Qi Refining cultivators.
Relying on this sinister artifact, Lin Yu and the Tong Yu brothers had ambushed and slain several late-stage Qi Refining cultivators, including a rogue at the Ninth Level.
Hearing her, the scar-faced man ignored his reluctance. He slapped a talisman onto himself and then drew out two more, aiming them at Chen Beiwu.
"Thunder descend, fire strike!"
In an instant, thunder raged and flames erupted. The two spell talismans bombarded the direction of Chen Beiwu without discrimination.
Chen Beiwu effortlessly leaned back and leapt, slipping out of the talisman’s targeting range. His figure slowly faded into the increasingly hazy mist around them.
"Where is he?" The burly man glanced around and instinctively moved closer to Lin Yu.
Tong Yu was already dead. If Lin Yu also died, he would be left to fend for himself.
'There’s one at the Sixth Level and one at the Seventh Level of Qi Refining left.' Chen Beiwu hid in the mist, searching for the next target.
He who kills must be prepared to be killed.
Since these marauders dared to target him, they must be ready to face death!
