Chapter 614: Identity Exposed
A cold wind was blowing across the sky. The demons had completely surrounded Daniel and were trying to put pressure on him by releasing their auras.
Anger and rage were clearly visible on their faces, and their killing intent was fully directed at him.
Before Daniel could react, they even started setting up different arrays all around him, as if they wanted to suppress his power.
"How did you figure it out?" Daniel looked at all of them, his brows tightening, a bit confused about exactly how they had realized it.
He was sure he hadn't made any mistake so far that would expose his identity, but apparently, without even noticing it himself, he really had made such a mistake.
And judging by how prepared these demons were and how they had surrounded him, it was clear that even before they started moving, they had already prepared for the possibility of a confrontation with him.
'So these two days of preparation were for me and not for the humans, huh? How ridiculous.'
He couldn't stop himself from laughing.
The soldiers had surrounded him from every direction. Just one small mistake… one careless move… and a flood of attacks would be unleashed.
But there was no worry on Daniel's face. No anxiety either.
This was exactly what he planned to start himself, he just didn't expect them to figure it out earlier than he expected.
He only wanted to know exactly how his identity was exposed, where he made a mistake. After all, that kind of knowledge would be useful in the future.
'Considering their level of preparation, I'm gonna have to destroy this body.'
"Answer me… who are you?" Wargon's angry voice exploded through the silence and pulled him out of his thoughts.
Just from the tone, the level of fury was obvious, something that made Daniel a bit curious. He had gotten to know Wargon in the last two days, and very few things could make this demon this angry.
Could it be that Orsuis was his friend?
"How did you figure it out?" Daniel slowly raised his head.
He didn't try to act anymore. At this point, it was meaningless and only a waste of time.
"So… that bastard Zalkareth was right. You really aren't Orsuis!" Wargon laughed. His voice sounded like the growl of a wounded beast.
"So it was the strategist…?" Daniel muttered under his breath.
He didn't know whether to laugh or be annoyed. Honestly, it made sense. That demon always gave him a bad feeling, and whenever he was near him, Daniel felt like all his secrets were in the open.
His thoughts raced as he tried to find the clue. What made Zalkareth figure it out?
Maybe he had some kind of ability that detects truth from lies? Or maybe he just had really strong intuition?
Daniel still didn't want to admit that his acting had been bad.
"Of course I didn't believe that bastard's words right away. But just a few minutes ago… during the negotiation… when I wanted to slaughter the humans, you stopped me." Wargon bared his sharp teeth.
"The real Orsuis wouldn't just stop me, he'd encourage me!" Wargon's eyes flashed with rage.
Among all commanders and generals, Orsuis was one of the few demons whose personality was similar to his. Both were war-driven lunatics, and because of that, they were close friends.
When Zalkareth told him Orsuis had died and his body was taken over, he couldn't believe or accept it.
But now the truth was right in front of him.
"That's right… the original owner of this body was a bloodthirsty idiot." Daniel couldn't hold it in anymore and burst out laughing loudly.
Then his eyes suddenly turned cold.
"I'll give you one chance to live. Tell me where that place you're planning to open is located."
There was a moment of silence, then the demons all burst out laughing.
"You heard him? This bastard isn't just stupid… he's delusional!" Wargon started laughing hard.
Behind him, the soldiers mocked him one by one:
"Who the hell is this guy?"
"How did he manage to take over Commander Orsuis with that rotten brain of his?"
"He definitely used some item or had someone help him. There's no way a human could beat Orsuis!"
"He's so dumb he doesn't even realize we already exposed him." Another one sneered.
Wargon raised his hand, and the laughter went quiet.
His eyes turned icy.
"I'll give you one chance too. Tell me who ordered you… so I can give you a quick death." His tone was dry and deadly.
"Didn't your Crown Prince hire people to infiltrate your base for an assassination plan? …Well, I'm one of them." Daniel gave him a dark smile.
"I thought you guys hadn't arrived yet… but I guess you infiltrated the base earlier?" Wargon raised an eyebrow.
He felt a bit bitter. Losing a commander and a friend because of something this stupid…
He had been against this kind of nonsense from the start.
Letting a bunch of lowly humans dare to enter their base—even if only symbolically or as part of a plan—was an insult to the entire demon race.
"I came to finish my job… but when I realized your Crown Prince was behind it, I dropped it." Daniel nodded calmly.
'This way I can protect Kayn and my main body. I just need to buy them time…' he thought.
"But something's obvious… there were two of you. Where's the other one?" Wargon stepped closer.
Daniel let out a heavy sigh, one filled with frustration and a bit of sadness.
"He was killed in the fight with this bastard demon whose body I took."
"Just as I thought. It's impossible for a lowly human to defeat my friend alone." Wargon nodded in satisfaction.
He waved his hand, and a black aura erupted.
A giant hell-forged mace appeared, twice his own height, with blades shaped like the teeth of some ancient creature.
"Be happy I'm not killing you yet… but I'll make sure to teach you a proper lesson." Wargon grabbed the mace.
Daniel began to laugh, an easy, mocking laugh.
"The delusion of demons… it's on a whole other level."
