Awakening of the Scheming Wife

Chapter 3: Good husband? No!

"What do you mean by that? What did I do that turned you into this?" Vernon asked her.

"If you acted as my husband from the start, would I have to resort to this?" Helena asked sarcastically.

"You mean I did not act as your husband?" Vernon couldn't believe his ears. No man would ever want his wife to say such words.

It was humiliating.

Helena chuckled at his expression, "Just sleeping with me whenever you are in the mood doesn't make you a qualified husband. If you just sleep with your wife and not fulfill all the responsibilities as a husband, that is called prostitution."

Vernon's face paled at her words.

'Prostitution?' Did he hear her correctly? Did she really use that word?

Helena looked at his pale expression and lost interest. She no longer wanted to look at him.

She stood up from the seat and walked towards the door to leave.

When she reached the door, she stopped and said without turning back, "There is a shareholders meeting tomorrow. Since you already know about me, inform your brother that I will be attending as well. Tell him to prepare well. I can't be sure if he can keep his position any longer."

After saying those words, she did not wait for his reaction and left the room directly.

Vernon did not come back to his senses for a while. He recalled the words Helena told him before she left and frowned.

No matter what, he had to inform his brother so he could prepare himself. With that thought in mind, he immediately dialed his brother's phone number, "Hello, Brother."

"Yes. Looks like you found as well," A calm voice fell into Vernon's ears.

Vernon understood that his brother heard the news as well and fell silent. He felt ashamed and did not dare to face his brother at all.

But he steeled his heart and spoke, "Brother, I am sorry. Helena said that you should prepare yourself or you might lose your position."

Vincent sighed and spoke slowly, "You don't have to apologize to me, Vernon. I know that you have nothing to do with it."

Vernon was silent for a while before he asked, "How many shares did she have in her hand? Is there anything I can do to help you?"

"No. She is the second largest shareholder of our company right now. Even if we get all the other shareholders to our side, we can't neglect her opinions," Vincent stated in a calm voice as if he wasn't in trouble in his own company at all.

Vernon was shocked by this information. He knew that someone mysterious was buying as many shares of their company as possible but he did not know that the number of shares had already reached high enough to be counted as the second largest shareholder.

Helena now had a very high position in tomorrow's meeting and she was set on dethroning his brother. He understood this matter.

He sighed, "Brother, I will talk to Helena. Maybe I can try to convince her to stop doing this anymore. We are a family after all. I am sure she would listen to me."

"Do you really think she will still listen to you?" Vincent asked him.

Vernon went silent. From their earlier conversation, it was clear that the answer was a huge NO.

Vincent expected such and sighed before saying, "Do you know? I found that she had not used a single penny while obtaining all those shares."

"What? Did not spend a single penny? How is that possible?" Vernon was shocked.

How could the shares of Jeffery Corps be given away just like that without taking any money? Aren't all the old men in their shareholder's list hellbent on squeezing as much money as they could from the Jeffery Brothers?

How did they not get a single penny in exchange for so many shares?

"Looks like you still did not understand your wife well. She is a very smart woman. If only she was on our side," Vincent sighed as he lamented.

But his words showed how much he actually respected Helena's talent and her smartness.

Vernon pursed his lips. He did not know how to respond, so he stayed calm.

After a while, he asked, "Brother, don't you hate her?"

"Hate her? Why?"

"She was going against you at every turn. She slapped sister-in-law in front of everyone and most importantly, she even pushed your son into the pool. How can you still not hate her?" Vernon was agitated as he recalled everything his wife had done to his brother's family of three.

"Vernon," Vincent called his brother to say something. But he did not continue and stopped himself.

"What is it, brother?" Vernon felt his brother's hesitation and asked in confusion.

"Nothing."

"Brother, are you hiding something from me?"

"No."

"Then, what is it?" Vernon was adamant.

Vincent sighed. His younger brother was like that since he was pampered since young. He doesn't know how to let things go.

"Helena has been a good child since young," Vincent commented out of the blue.

Both the brothers have known her since she was young. They had seen her grow up.

"I know, Brother. But that was in the past. She had changed now. I can't recognize her anymore," Vernon replied in a grim voice.

"She started to change since she married you. As her husband, you should know the best about why she changed and why she had done everything that she had done," Vincent gave another comment, which stumped Vernon.

"You mean, I am not a good husband to her?" Because of his earlier conversation with Helena, he subconsciously asked that question.

"I don't know about that. Only your wife could answer if you are a good husband or not," Vincent did not give a definite answer but Vernon understood the meaning behind his words.

After hanging up on the phone, Vernon sat and thought about everything that had happened since their marriage.

He could see that she had transformed from a kind-hearted young lady into a scheming woman who had dug many plots against everyone in his family one after another. But why? He did not get a definite answer.

She is going to usurp their family company the next day and he couldn't understand why she wanted to do that. He fell into a deep thought.

He softly muttered, "Helena! How did you turn into a scheming woman?"
