Chapter 2: Family? No!
"Helena, we have been married for ten years already. Now, you are saying that you don't even consider my family as yours?" Vernon asked.
Helena calmly nodded. She felt that she doesn't have to justify her words. So, she did not say anything.
"Why haven't I seen your true face all these years?" Vernon asked in shock.
He had been married to her for ten whole years. Everyone around him had always warned him that she was a scheming woman, a two-faced bitch, and acted completely different when he wasn't around.
But he had trusted her too much. He trusted her so much that he had distanced himself from his friends and family trying his best to defend his wife.
"My true face? What exactly is my true face?" Helena was still as calm as ever as if they were talking about the weather and not about her familial relationship with her husband and his family.
"You!" Vernon did not have any words to scold his wife at all. He really felt frustrated enough to pull his hair but he did not so as not to damage his image.
Helena did not care about his frustration at all. She calmly raised an eyebrow and asked, "Me? What me?"
"Your true face is that of a scheming woman, who married me for my money and nothing else. You harmed everyone around me, closed my eyes to my surroundings and made me walk the wrong path," Vernon couldn't stand her being so calm anymore and shouted.
"If you are blind enough to not see your surroundings and misunderstand everyone around you, why would it be my fault? It clearly is your fault, right?" Helena sneered.
Vernon was exasperated at her audacity. She had done so much against him and now she was saying that all the fault lies with him? How could she?
He took a few deep breaths to calm himself down. He asked her, "Since you pretended to be a good person in front of me all these years, why didn't you continue pretending anymore? Why are you showing your true face to me now?"
He really did not understand her at all. Why did she pretend all these years and why did she stop pretending all of a sudden?
Helena chuckled and casually shrugged, "Because I don't have to pretend in front of you anymore?"
Vernon frowned, "What do you mean?"
He had a bad feeling about this. Helena had done something and that something was definitely big enough to change his life but what exactly did she do?
Clearly, Helena wouldn't answer his question. She did not care to give him any answers.
Vernon opened his lips to speak but his phone rang. It was a text message. He frowned and wanted to ignore it for now but his finger had accidentally clicked on it.
Since the message had already been opened, he decided to read it.
As soon as his eyes fell on the message, his eyes constricted.
He raised his head in shock, "It's you? How did you do it?"
"Oh? Looks like you found out, huh?" Helena seemed to understand what the Vernon was talking about but she did not care at all. She calmly smiled.
"You were the one who got all those shares? How did you manage to get those shares? Also, what do you plan on doing with all the shares our company?" Vernon asked her.
It was no longer about their relationship but the matter had gone as far as their company's.
The company belonged to their family. It was taken over by his older brother and as his younger brother, he had been assisting him all these years.
Unlike in other families where brothers fought against each other for the family's property, the brothers never fought. They loved each other dearly and Vernon always assisted his brother in everything.
But now? He couldn't believe that his wife had gone behind him and bought most of the shares of their company. Once this news is known to the outsiders, how would it look?
It would look like he was coveting the property behind his brother's back.
Her actions were clearly drawing a wedge between the brothers. He couldn't accept this at all.
His eyes turned red in anger.
But did Helena care about his emotions? Not at all.
She even laughed at him like she was looking at a fool, "Why would I get shares of any company? Of course it was to earn money. If possible, I might even gain some power in the company, right?"
"You want to enter the company?"
"It's not impossible," Helena shrugged again.
"Why?"
"Are you an idiot?" This time, Helena did not keep her thoughts to just her eyes but voiced them out loud. "Why would I want to join the company? Why is everyone working in the company? For the same reason."
"Don't you have enough money? How much more do you want before you stop doing this?"
"Enough Money? Don't you have enough money as well? Then why is your company working so hard? Why are you doing business everyday trying to increase your wealth even more?" Helena sneered. She felt that Vernon is really an idiot.
Vernon looked shocked. He shook his head, "No, this isn't what you said before."
Helena frowned, "Oh? What did I say before?"
"When you were married into the family, Grandfather presented you with shares as your welcoming gift to you and you said you don't want them. Why did you change so much now?"
Helena's expression changed for a second when she heard his words. It has been so long since that happened. She had long forgotten about that.
After a few seconds, she smiled. Then she chuckled, "Yes, I changed. Doesn't this credit belong to you?"
"Me? What did I do?" Vernon was confused.
"As my husband, don't you feel ashamed asking me such a question now?" Helena sneered, confusing Vernon even more.
"What do you mean by that? What did I do that turned you into this?"
