Awakened Earth!!

chapter 80: becoming a demon lord part 4

Right before I lost consciousness, I sacrificed my unique skill, Perseverance, to evolve my unique skill, Rainbow Flame Transformation. I wasn’t sure if it was successful, as I passed out before I could find out the results.

After an unknown amount of time, I awakened and realized I had evolved into the unique species Aragon. It seemed my skill had truly evolved into an ultimate ability. However, I was more interested in my new appearance at that moment. I decided to check my ultimate skill later and focus on my new look first. I could tell something had changed, so I pulled out a mirror. Naturally, the mirror was stored in Sophie’s realm, which now had a proper storage room—an infinite void where time was stopped, courtesy of Rimuru’s help.

Looking in the mirror, I noticed the changes: my wings were now a combination of silver and gold, shining with a metallic luster. They were soft to the touch, like touching a fluffy cloud, bringing an odd contrast between their appearance and feel. I had two small, two-centimeter horns on my forehead—my left horn was silver, and my left eye was gold; my right horn was gold, and my right eye was silver.

Those seemed to be the only changes to my appearance.

Next, I began inspecting my ultimate skill, Phoenix Ruler of the Rainbow Sun. I possessed the subskill Infinite Regeneration, the same as Sophie, and the subskill Sixth Sense had naturally been boosted as well. The subskill Master of the Rainbow Flame was particularly interesting. I no longer needed to transform, and my control over my flames had greatly increased. I could now freely control what my flames could and couldn't burn, rather than indiscriminately burning everything.

My body was made of highly concentrated, solidified rainbow fire and existed in a semi-physical state. Due to this, I was completely immune to physical attacks; physical attacks would just pass through me like a Logia Devil Fruit user, even if the attacker coated their fist in Armament Haki. Since my body was permanently in a semi-physical state, it seemed that any attack weaker than an ultimate skill would be nullified—no, it was any ability. Unless an ability reached the level of an ultimate skill, it would have no effect on me. The exception being physical attacks since they wouldn't work on me even if they were at the ultimate skill level.

However, if someone coated their fist in Conqueror’s Haki, they would be able to hit me, as Conqueror’s Haki affects the spirit, turning a physical attack into a spiritual one.

Ultimate skill users are immune to magic and skills below the ultimate skill level. However, there are exceptions and loopholes. For example, Guy Crimson could combine his ultimate skill with lesser skills or magic to bypass the usual immunity that ultimate skill users have to magic and skills below the ultimate skill level.

Some unique skills that were on the verge of evolving into an ultimate skill could also harm other ultimate skill users. However, with my ultimate skill Phoenix, an attack or ability needed to reach the power of an ultimate skill to have any effect on me. This means that even if Guy Crimson used his trick to bypass the usual immunity of ultimate skill users to spells and skills, it wouldn’t work unless the attack itself was powerful enough to reach the ultimate skill level.

I inspected the other subskills of my ultimate skill. The subskill Willpower had been changed into Iron Will, now converting willpower to magicules at a one-to-two ratio, effectively doubling the amount of magicules I was generating. The subskill Combine had transformed into Fusion, allowing me to fuse two abilities or spells together into an entirely new spell, ability, or skill—whatever.

I summoned my staff, Twilight, to inspect its appearance. The staff had changed and evolved due to the gift ceremony. Since the staff was naturally alive, this made sense. Twilight was now pitch black with a silver ring at the end, and twelve crimson-red gems were embedded into the silver ring, positioned reminiscent of the hours on a clock. In the middle was a blue crystal ball, floating freely. I waved it around and confirmed that the blue crystal ball, despite floating, seemed to be somehow attached to the staff. Twilight was now more attuned to my magic, and its amplification ability had been greatly enhanced.

We were instantly back in Tempest, thanks to Sophie’s terrifying teleportation abilities. Imagine an enemy trying to get close to Sophie, only to be teleported into a black hole before they could even realize what happened.

At that moment, I was standing before a cocoon in the middle of the streets of Tempest. Of course, how it got there was a mystery, but it didn’t really matter. I was too curious anyway. I watched as the cocoon started cracking, and out came Alex. I received all of the information transferred via telepathy, but I was stunned by Alex's appearance. She hadn’t changed much, but she now had a pair of blue butterfly wings, displaying every shade of blue—even some shades that didn’t even exist—giving the wings a beautiful and mystical vibe. The wings were retractable, which was a good thing, unlike the previous insect wings she had. The butterfly wings were so large they would definitely get in the way if they weren’t retractable.

I was surprised to discover that Alex had also gained an ultimate skill. Her unique skill had evolved, and she had become a Wind Fairy. It seemed the evolution had focused on developing her unique skill, resulting in only a tenfold increase in strength—unlike the hundredfold increase Sophie and I experienced. She was now on par with a True Demon Lord or an Awakened Demon Lord, but on the lower end. Her ultimate skill was called Fairy Queen, Master of Storms. It also had the subskill Infinite Regeneration, and the subskill Sixth Sense had greatly improved, like everyone else’s. She possessed the subskill Master of Storms, which granted her all the abilities of the storm. She could also create and control cosmic storms; anything related to weather or storms, even something like a space storm, was within her control.

The subskill Cherry Blossom had changed into Cherry Tree. The cherry blossoms were no longer mere blades but more like deadly jigsaws. What’s worse, she could now create an ungodly amount of them. The subskill Wind Dance had transformed into Fairy Dance, allowing her to move with boosted power much faster. Finally, she had a subskill called Fairy Force, which allowed her to collide her magicules together, generating powerful explosions that would, in turn, generate more magicules. It was similar to Milim’s skill, with the difference being that Alex could directly collide her magicules to generate a limitless supply of power, rather than needing to mix her magicules with those in the air first.
