Awakened Earth!!

chapter 60: fuck!!!

How many scorpions do you estimate would come out of that portal crystal? Hmm, probably hundreds of thousands if I had to guess. Millions in the worst-case scenario. It's hard to tell precise numbers, but I can get a rough estimate based on the energy fluctuations of the portal itself. In that case, our strategy should be abundantly obvious. We'll stage a main offensive at what we're calling The Fortress. That's a shit name, but fine. We decided on an actual name; I don't care as long as we call it the same thing. I don't really care what it's called.

Very well, the main offensive will be at The Fortress while we elites will take the rear line. Jack will take the airships and use them for support and harassment of the enemy. That will be your job, he says. Make sure to load the airships with ranged attackers; we don't need any melee fighters this time.

"Okay, the rest of you," he says, "the barrier only blocks attacks one way, so you can one-sidedly destroy the enemy. However, the praying mantises are much faster than the centipedes. Although they're pretty weak, if you're caught off guard, you'll definitely be cut down. I want to set up a bunch of landmines as well as other magical traps that should help us deal with them. But the priority target is, of course, the scorpions, which is why we're going to set up traps for them. Our elite forces will go to the enemy's rear and target the scorpions. If you see any scorpions, make sure to target those bastards first."

He continues, "As we saw from the previous battle, the scorpions' abilities lean more into summoning magic. This is why, despite the spatial...countermeasures we have in place, they can still teleport there allies in.

Well, I'll start making preparations. I want the Fortress trapped up the wazoo. Also, for those teams on harassment, support, like I said, you'll have to focus on ranged attacks, a team specializing in AOE-type magic and a team specializing powerful magic. Dealing with the small fry is the best course of action. Use the AOE team on the airships to basically harass and reduce the numbers, he says, while the specialized team with powerful magic can, targets the scorpions.

After the boring meeting, while everyone's getting all the traps set up, I'm just lying on the roof of the building that is my temporary home on a sunbathing chair. I sense someone approaching. It seems it's one of those annoying people i am in charge of, asking me why I'm not helping with the preparations. I say that you're an idiot; you should be resting and ignoring the orders about the traps. The traps can't really do much more than slow them down. There's also not much we can do in terms of preparations anyway; traps are about the limit, and maybe we discuss a bunch of hypothetical scenarios we have no idea of what go to happen. It's better to simply relax and rest until the fight.

Two days later, Sophie passed out due to the lack of mana, having kept that going for two days continuously. This was already impressive enough. We began flying out, all of the elite, such as myself, were heading to the rear line of the enemy. I sent a telepathic message to the people left back at the base. It seems some of the scorpions have broken off to enter the barrier of the Fortress and call in their allies once there in. The portal is now spewing out thousands of scorpions, not to mention the unnecessarily large number of enemies they summoned through their portals. This means there are probably trillions upon trillions of stupid space bugs, most of them being made up of mantises and centipedes, which are relatively weak, but their numbers are still a problem.

I activate my unique magic, Rainbow Flame Transformation. My eyes turn rainbow-colored, my hair turns rainbow-colored, my wings turn rainbow-colored. My clothes are incinerated and replaced by a dress made of solidified Rainbow flames. My speed drastically increases, and I reach the rear lines in seconds. Of course, I can feel a ton of jellyfish attacking my mind; however, they burst into flames and are reduced to nothingness.

I say my rainbow flames can burn anything, even the mind. Attacking my mind while I'm in this state is the height of foolishness. Alright, I guess the jellyfish aren't super intelligent. Or maybe they were somewhat smart; it's kind of hard to tell. I let off my rainbow flames as I begin to dance. Even the mindless insects start to feel fear. This is my Rainbow Flame dance. The heat is so immense that it literally burns anyone just by looking at me.

The army of space bugs falters. I tell them all, " I will hold off the small fries; you target the scorpions." As I continue dancing, my radiant rainbow flames can be visible from 10,000 light years away due to how bright the flames are. The heat is so immense that it's distorting space and time. Just from the heat generated by my intense flames, everything ignites as I continue dancing my way through the enemies' ranks. They incinerate whenever they get close from the pure intensity of these flames.

The true purpose of my dance is revealed as a roar can be heard. This roar is enough to almost wipe out half of the enemies on its own. That was a dragon, and I am unable to summon it. It's far too powerful, but it seemed to respond to my dance for some reason. I have no idea why; I wasn't even dancing to try and summon the dragon. I simply thought my flashy dance would attract the insects, which aren't very intelligent, to me, especially given the very colorful nature of my rainbow flames.

However, thanks to that, I've been mowing down the enemies more quickly. Half of the enemies have been cut down by a simple dragon roar that seemed to travel across space-time. Unfortunately, more enemies are being summoned by the scorpions, pushing us. The elite forces are able to concentrate more on fighting the scorpions and have been mowing them down left and right. In a few hours, we should be able to Purge these assholes out of existence. Fucking space bugs are the worst.
