Chapter 26:
Chapter 26: Make a Friend:
The Top Qingling Hospital.
Lying on the hospital bed, Wang Zhenxing turned on his phone. After falling into the water yesterday, the phone had been soaked, but luckily, it was waterproof and still worked perfectly.
The screen displayed several missed calls, with most of them being from Xu Yourou.
Having abstained from emotional entanglements for so long, he had broken that pattern recently. Once a habit is broken, it’s often harder to go back. Seeing that he hadn’t responded last night, Xu Yourou had grown anxious, calling him repeatedly.
Other missed calls included one from Lin Keqing, his assistant. Her call had come that morning, likely because he hadn’t shown up for work. The remaining calls were from business contacts and acquaintances.
Ignoring the rest, Wang Zhenxing only called Xu Yourou back.
“I was busy yesterday and couldn’t pick up. Did something urgent happen?” he asked, pretending not to understand her worry.
“No, I was just a little bored and wanted to talk to you,” Xu Yourou replied shyly.
“It’s inconvenient to talk over the phone. Wouldn’t it be better to meet face to face?” Wang Zhenxing teased, smiling to himself. With Qin Yi about to return to Qingling, he wanted to strengthen his connection with Xu Yourou before then.
“What do you want to eat tonight?” she asked happily, her excitement barely contained.
“Make up for yesterday. Otherwise, I’m afraid I won’t survive,” he joked.
“You… You’re so evil, always teasing me! I’m not talking to you anymore.” Blushing, Xu Yourou quickly hung up the phone and headed out to buy groceries, her heart full of anticipation.
Afterward, Wang Zhenxing opened his messaging app.
Feng Qianqian had sent several messages, all about the new cosplay outfits she had ordered online. She wanted him to see them and offer suggestions.
“I’m busy today. I’ll let you know when I’m free,” he replied. He really wasn’t available today and decided to handle it later.
Just then, a doctor entered the room with his test results. “Everything is normal, Mr. Wang. You’re free to leave the hospital.”
This didn’t surprise him. His original plan had been to use medical knowledge to fake a health issue and stay in the hospital for a while, avoiding the aftermath of the charity summit. However, after learning more about Han Mei, he dropped that idea and went through the examinations as usual.
After calling his driver to bring a fresh set of clothes, he waited patiently. About half an hour later, the driver arrived.
Once dressed, Wang Zhenxing left the hospital. But just as he stepped outside, his phone rang. The number was unfamiliar.
He paused before answering.
“Mr. Wang, can we have a chat?”
The voice on the other end was cold but carried a charming undertone.
“Who’s this?” he asked, though he recognized Han Mei’s voice.
“Han Mei.”
“So it’s you, Mr. Han. What’s the matter?” His tone remained calm, neither hostile nor friendly.
“My car is parked outside the hospital entrance. You’ll see it when you come out,” Han Mei said.
Wang Zhenxing’s eyes narrowed slightly.
‘She clearly knew I’d be discharged today and came here early. What does she want?’
Telling his driver to wait in the car, Wang Zhenxing walked out and scanned the area. Soon, his gaze landed on an extended Rolls-Royce parked conspicuously by the entrance.
The car’s luxury was hard to miss.
As he approached, a middle-aged female driver stepped out politely and invited him inside.
The interior of the extended Rolls-Royce was incredibly spacious, like a small private lounge. Its luxury was striking, with details like a starry ceiling embedded with real diamonds, sparkling brilliantly.
As his gaze swept over the surroundings, he couldn’t help but feel a twinge of admiration. Owning such a custom luxury car was tempting, even for him.
His attention then shifted to Han Mei.
She sat elegantly in the spacious car, her legs gracefully crossed, with one high-heeled shoe dangling from her silk-clad foot. Her outfit today lacked her usual aloof and imposing aura, resembling that of a refined and alluring city woman.
She looked far less like the cold, arrogant “richest woman” and more like a relaxed beauty enjoying herself.
To make matters more surprising, the way she looked at him was similar to how Xu Yourou had gazed at him before—intense, almost predatory.
It was the kind of look that could unsettle a man.
Han Mei was undeniably a striking woman, and even at her age, she exuded an irresistible charm.
“It’s not convenient to talk here. Let’s go somewhere quieter,” Han Mei said softly.
The Rolls-Royce started and drove to a quiet, remote road.
Once the car stopped, the female driver exited and closed the door behind her, leaving only Han Mei and Wang Zhenxing inside.
The soundproofing of the custom car was exceptional; whatever they said inside would never be heard from outside.
“If you have something to say, just say it,” Wang Zhenxing said coolly, as though unaware of her intentions.
“I saved your life, yet you’re acting this coldly toward me?” Han Mei frowned slightly.
“There’s no need for formalities between us. You’re suppressing my company behind the scenes, and I’m supposed to be polite to you? Wait—what do you mean you saved me?” he asked, feigning confusion.
Han Mei remained calm. “If you don’t believe me, you can ask anyone who attended the charity summit.”
Pretending to verify, Wang Zhenxing called a friend to confirm. The answer was clear—Han Mei had indeed been the first to jump into the water to save him.
“Why did you save me?” he asked, his expression softening slightly as if puzzled.
Han Mei looked sincere. “To be honest, I only recently found out about my son’s actions against your company. It wasn’t my intention. My son’s spoiled, and I’ve indulged him too much.”
“You didn’t know?” he asked, his tone skeptical. “Your son controls multiple companies behind the scenes, and you had no idea?”
“I’m too lenient with him. But this matter wasn’t something I would have allowed if I had known earlier. In truth, I admire you, Mr. Wang. It’s rare for someone in business to be as charitable as you.”
Pausing, she added, “I know it’s hard to earn your forgiveness with words alone. So after you fainted yesterday, I donated an additional 100 million yuan in your name to charity. Take it as my way of apologizing to you.”
Hearing this, Wang Zhenxing smirked. “There’s no such thing as a free lunch. If you’re going through all this trouble, just tell me what you really want.”
Han Mei smiled faintly, the corners of her lips curving perfectly.
“It’s simple. I just want to… make friends with you, Mr. Wang.”
