At the Beginning, the Villain Is Secretly Loved by the Protagonist’s Mother

Chapter 25:

Chapter 25: There Is Something Wrong With Him!:

Although Han Mei was a skilled swimmer, dragging another person while holding her breath was exhausting. Fortunately, the lifeguards arrived just in time.

With their help, Wang Zhenxing was pulled onto a hovercraft. He continued to pretend to be unconscious.

Han Mei, however, didn’t hesitate. She checked his breathing and found it had stopped. Without caring about the people around her, she immediately began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

As his shirt was removed, revealing his toned and muscular physique, Han Mei’s gaze lingered momentarily. However, there was no time to appreciate it now.

As a strong and independent woman, Han Mei had many basic skills, including swimming and first aid. She focused on saving him, performing CPR repeatedly until Wang Zhenxing coughed violently, spitting out river water.

Unfortunately for Han Mei, this happened while she was giving artificial respiration, and she swallowed a mouthful of water. Still, she ignored it and continued her efforts.

“Hey, are you awake?!” Han Mei called out, but there was no response.

Although Wang Zhenxing remained “unconscious,” his breathing had returned to normal, and his life was no longer in danger. Soon after, he was placed in a car and sent to a nearby hospital.

The incident passed, and the charity summit continued as planned. Despite the absence of its main sponsor, the event proceeded without much disruption.

The next day.

in the Center Building, Han Mei sat in her office, answering a call.

“You’re awake and out of danger now? Alright, I understand.”

Hearing the good news, Han Mei let out a quiet sigh of relief. After ending the call, she tried to focus on her work.

Yesterday’s events had left her uneasy. Although she had been worried about Wang Zhenxing, it wasn’t appropriate for someone of her status to stay at the hospital.

Now that she knew he was fine, she should’ve been able to concentrate. But as she worked, her mind kept wandering back to yesterday’s events.

Her face grew warm as she thought about the moments when she had performed artificial respiration. Yesterday, she had acted instinctively, but now those memories made her heart beat faster.

Trying to calm herself, Han Mei took deep breaths. It was nearly noon, and she wasn’t feeling hungry. She decided to rest in the lounge for a while before heading to lunch.

At that moment, the office door suddenly swung open.

Her son, Han Jie, barged in angrily.

“I never taught you to knock before entering my office, did I?” Han Mei scolded coldly.

Han Jie ignored her tone and said through gritted teeth, “Mom, didn’t you promise me you’d push Wang Zhenxing at the charity summit? Why did you go back on your word?!”

Hearing this, Han Mei felt a slight pang of guilt. The stern look on her face softened. “He accidentally fell into the water, fainted, and had to be sent to the hospital. He didn’t even attend the meeting.”

“Fine, but what I don’t understand is—why did you save that guy? If he fell in, you should’ve let him drown. Wouldn’t that have been better?” Han Jie said bluntly.

Han Mei froze.

The organizers had asked the media not to report the incident, but rumors had clearly spread. Han Jie must’ve heard something.

“This matter is complicated. I didn’t plan to save him. It just happened,” Han Mei replied, trying to brush it off.

Han Jie stared at her suspiciously. “Mom, is that really true? I heard you even gave him artificial respiration.”

“Where did you hear that?” Han Mei asked, visibly startled.

“I didn’t just hear about it. I saw it with my own eyes. A friend sent me this photo.” Han Jie pulled out his phone and showed her the image.

Seeing the undeniable evidence, Han Mei fell silent, unable to argue.

“Mom, are you attracted to that guy?” Han Jie asked nervously.

His father had died young, and he knew it hadn’t been easy for his mother to single-handedly manage the massive Fenghua Group. Though Han Jie was rebellious, he still cared about his mother. He also knew he wasn’t capable of taking over the company. Someone had to share the burden with her.

But Wang Zhenxing was an enemy—a man closely tied to Qin Yi. Han Jie couldn’t accept him as his stepfather.

“What nonsense are you talking about?!” Han Mei’s voice sharpened, her calm cracking under his accusation.

“Mom, I’m serious here. I need to remind you of something.”

“What is it?” Han Mei asked, confused.

“That man, Wang Zhenxing, is almost forty years old. He’s never been married, never had a girlfriend, and no one’s even heard of him having a lover. He doesn’t go to entertainment venues either. Mom, how can there be a man like that in this world? If there is, then something must be wrong with him.”

At first, Han Mei found his words ridiculous, but the more she thought about it, the more uneasy she felt.

It was understandable for someone of Wang Zhenxing’s status not to want to marry. But for a man to have no romantic relationships at all—that was strange.

Han Mei had remained single because of her strict standards, her obsession with reputation, and her mysophobia.

For women, a lock that could be opened by any key was seen as a bad lock. Han Mei wanted to be the “good lock.”

But for men like Wang Zhenxing, who could open many locks, they were called “master keys.” Society wouldn’t judge them.

‘Could there really be something wrong with him?’ Han Mei thought suspiciously.

Of course, this was just speculation. To confirm it, she needed to find an opportunity to test him.

“Mom, believe me. As a man, I can tell. There’s definitely something wrong with that guy. I guarantee it!” Han Jie added confidently.

“Do you think everyone is like you, running around and wasting time?” Han Mei retorted.

“What’s the point of living if a man doesn’t enjoy himself?” Han Jie laughed smugly.

“Be serious. You’re getting married in a few days. I don’t care what you do afterward, but for at least a month, I want you to behave. Otherwise, I’ll stop giving you more than a million yuan in monthly allowance,” Han Mei warned sternly.

“Mom, how can I survive without a million yuan a month?” Han Jie whined.

“I’m not joking.”

Han Jie shrugged, looking indifferent. “Honestly, I didn’t want to get married. If it weren’t for the satisfaction of stealing Qin Yi’s girlfriend, I would’ve dumped her long ago.”

“The wedding date has been set, and the invitations have already been sent. I don’t care what you think—this wedding is happening.”

“Fine, I get it,” Han Jie said reluctantly.

“Now leave. And remember to knock before entering my office next time.”

Han Jie grumbled as he turned to leave, but Han Mei paid him no further attention.
