Aria Of The Cursed Dragon

Chapter 19: 19. The Aria XVI

She was a very simple woman, whatever her love wanted she was willing to do it.

She loved Siegfried more than her life so hearing his solemn words she couldn't take it anymore.

Brynhildr quickly turned around and sealed his lips, and after separating she whispered to him in a loving tone " ....Make love to me Sieg... "

Siegfried didn't wait anymore as he quickly got rid of both their clothes before they passionately embraced each other....

...

" How long will you stay Sieg? " Brynhildr asked softly as she laid her head on his chest listening to the rhythmic beating of her husband's heart as she felt his comforting caresses on her hair.

"A year ....after that I would have to go to the frontlines " Siegfried said in an apologetic tone as he kissed his wife on top of her head.

Brynhildr comforted him in her usual gentle manner even if she felt saddened by the news " It's all right....., I know the man I married won't be able to witness others suffering without doing anything"

Siegfried felt even more guilty when he heard her supportive words.

But he couldn't just stay back as war erupts on the mainland and Chaos spreads.....

...

Emperor Alf was sitting on his throne as he held a vial which held a transparent liquid in his hands.

Alf had a complicated expression on his face as he gazed at the vial.

Although the liquid looked harmless Alf knew what it truly was, A poison which can even slay a God.

He closed his eyes and after coming to terms with his inner turmoil Alf's eyes became sharp as he clenched the vial in his hands.

He was no longer a King but an emperor and he couldn't let personal feelings cloud his judgement.

Siegfried was far too dangerous....

....

A year had passed and the turmoil on the mainland only worsened.

Border skirmishes to a rise in crime rate, and bandits becoming more and more rampant. The life of commoners became hellish.

Siegfried didn't know all of this but even if he did he couldn't do anything because it was impossible to save everyone.

After spending a year in Brynhildr's company Siegfried bid her farewell and went to the empire to join the war as the general.

Siegfried had his own loyal followers, he and his garrison were a fearsome unit in the Empire's army which struck terror in the hearts of enemies.

Siegfried's men were fiercely loyal to him and only him. To Siegfried, this may not have been a problem as he was loyal to the empire and his step father but his Stepfather Alf did not see it that way.

Siegfried may have been the reason he became an emperor but people did not appreciate free things and their gratitude is temporary.

An army that does not obey the emperor's words as law is an army that an emperor does not need. Even if it was Siegfried's.

After becoming more influential and powerful, Alf became more and more paranoid, Siegfried was someone he was very wary of and after Regim ( Dwarf father of Sieg) died even more so.

As more time passed Alf started to view Siegfried as a thorn in his side, he couldn't help but feel relief when he thought all of his troubles would come to an end after this war.

He had confidence in winning the war as that 'person' had given him a trump card to use in case of emergencies.

After this war, the name of Emperor Alf would be immortalised in the annals of history.....

....

Siegfried was bleeding through all orifices as he held the corpse of one of his most trusted men, Geralt.

He had a bitter smile on his face as he gazed at the stab wound on his chest. There was a hole in his chest plate and a reddish-purple wound was visible and crack-like marks were pulsing around the wound.

To think he would be betrayed once again by someone whom he trusted, but he couldn't even bring himself to hate or blame him as he knew his subordinate was forced to make that decision.

He felt complicated while holding Geralt's corpse, Geralt had taken his own life due to the guilt and Siegfried could only watch.

Geralt's actions stung but more than that the betrayal made him feel suffocated, he could only imagine one person who could do this and with Geralt telling him it was the emperor , there was no need to doubt it.

To think Alf would go so far as to threaten Geralt with his wife and children.

Siegfried never once thought of seizing the throne or taking control of the empire, he was never interested in power to begin with.

All he did until today was his genuine wish to help people and bring forth prosperity to the empire because his mother was married to Alf.

To think he would be repaid with betrayal instead of gratitude, Siegfried felt some tears flowing from his eyes and together with the blood it became bloody tears.

His subordinates all had grim expressions on their faces, some of them were even gritting their teeth so hard that their gums bled.

They knew they were going to die here today, as they were facing an encirclement from the armies of several kingdoms.

The empire had left them to die and more than that, their invincible General being in this state made them feel despair.

They knew Siegfried would die and this caused them to tear up, even the most seasoned ones in the group couldn't help but shed some tears as Siegfried was just that important to them.

Geralt died, he took his life due to guilt and now Siegfried will die and many more of their comrades will follow.

Everyone will die that was a reality they knew but to die like this was something they couldn't accept....
