Apocalyptic Rebirth: With a repairman system space, she rises again.

Chapter 237: Janet in Eden.

Janet Kailani had been wondering for so long, searching for the next place to call home. Her superhuman nature made it easier for her to travel in the snow because of her ability to turn snow into water.

Her skin resisted the cold more easily and the weather that made others freeze outside beyond four hours could be described as sweater weather for her.

She was no longer as soft hearted as she had been when she moved to Ceasar's base. Other people were not her priority anymore, only herself. So, when she met those who were hungry or those who were trembling desperately along the road, she did not dare to stop.

Janet had not even stopped for supplies. She had made away with one of the RVs in the white house which was well stocked. It was one of ten that were prepared by Ceasar's team for himself, and his men should the moment come when they could not hide in the bunker under the White house anymore.

She had been heading to Camp Zenith when a drone spreading President Finch's message passed overhead. At the end of the message, the location of the base was given. Angels Hollow.

It was once the biggest national park in the country, nestled in the highlands of the Hollow Mountain range. It used to be a safe haven for those who loved picnics and the ones that loved to hike. According to Finch, it had somehow resisted the meteors and acid rain, and it was still standing.

She had driven for a week, taking small breaks to rest. It had been a long tiring drive, but she had finally arrived at Angels Hollow. This time round, she had no plans to share her abilities. Her plan was to observe and learn. If she liked what she saw, she would reveal herself and her abilities.

So far, the only observation she had made was that there were many people flocking to the base like her. Caravans of desperate humans on foot and in vehicles, their faces thinned and pale, eyes desperate but hopeful. Janet wondered how the trekkers had made it to the base. She also wondered how many superhumans were in the crowd.

It took an hour long for her to reach the front. There, she noticed a group of people dressed in military uniforms, waving signboards that invited superhumans to go through another entrance.

Angel's Hollow Park had two large tunnels that served as entrances. One used to be an exit, once upon a time. But not anymore. Now, it had a large red carpet and a fire wielding superhuman melting the snow. All superhumans were proving themselves at the entrance before being given passage.

For a moment.....one small moment, Janet was tempted to divert her car and join that queue. There was no doubt in her mind that those people were on their way to live the VIP life on this base.

The cars moved ahead and she followed slowly. Closer to the wall now, she saw the large neon sparkling sign which had the words EDEN.

A soldier slapped the RV, and she killed the gas and opened the door. Three armed soldiers hopped inside to start their inspection. Behind them, a woman with thorny hair like that of a porcupine followed.

She looked Janet over once with cold uninterested eyes. "Name."

Janet introduced herself.

"Where are you coming from?"

All the soldiers dug their eyes into her like they were waiting for the opportunity to rip her apart. Janet shivered and clenched her hands around the steering wheel of the car.

She wanted to name another place. But instinct told her that there was something they had noticed. If she lied, she would bring trouble on herself.

"The White house." She answered firmly. Her heart was beating so fast, and she wondered if they could hear it. Could they see how nervous she was?

Porcupine hair smiled. "If you had lied, my spikes would have been in your body quicker than your next breath. The plates on this RV are federal, issued to White house vehicles. You have some questions to answer but that will be all for now."

She stepped out then....more like leaped out with one jump that left Janet blinking.

The three soldiers grabbed some snacks from the RV, smirked and walked out.

Janet sighed after they left. Her car was waved forward, and she made it into President Finch's promise land. She had no idea what to expect but the image she had in her mind was similar to what the White house had been like.

But it was different. The roads through the park led to Angel town, where the actual settlement was. It was not beautiful or thriving, but it was somewhere between the lines. It had ambition, a little green here and there and a lot of humming, the sound of generators that were roaring like sleeping giants.

Old stone houses that were once looked down on were now held in high esteem and loved. Besides those houses were others that were partially collapsed. They had been patched with iron sheets, metal and cement.

The roads were crowded with people. Some clearing up the snow and others standing around fire pits of something that looked like melting iron. Among those were individuals holding cups with drinks that were steaming. Maybe it was tea, or coffee. She could not guess.

There were many eyes in the windows of all the buildings. Children especially seemed to be interested in the new arrivals. Some waved from behind glass showing friendliness.

Janet did not trust their smiles. Along the way, she had seen disturbing things, and she trusted no one. Not adults and not children. The apocalypse had changed them all and the residents of Eden were no different.

She noticed porridge stalls all around the town. At each one, their seemed to be a superhuman with fire abilities.

"That power awoke like candy in this town." She muttered. She wondered if there was something special about the town that helped it survive and awake many superhumans. In her mind, she broke down the obvious reasons.

The town had survived for two reasons, one, the trees in the park had mutated and absorbed most of the acid rain. Two, around the park and part of the town was a large heavily reinforced metal and concrete wall.

Once upon a time the residents had protested its construction, never knowing that it would someday be their saving grace.

It also helped that Angel's Hollow was a high ground.

As for the pyrokinetics, maybe they had moved in from outside like her. It was not necessarily related to the town. Janet parked the RV in an area that had been designated for all RV owners that made it into the town with their vehicles.

She sighed as she turned off the ignition and rested her head on the wheel of the car. Her eyes closed and she drifted off to sleep wondering if this would be her new home or another base for another president to play tyrant.

She looked at the graying sky, and guessed that it was already evening. A sigh fell from her lips as she whispered the name of the camp to herself, "Eden."

Was it going to be the promised land or garden of plenty and safety like the one it had been named after?
