Apocalypse: Inhuman Ascension

Chapter 76: My Sister

While Leon was unconscious, he had a bad dream. Although he couldn't remember the contents, he felt an inexplicable sense of overwhelming sorrow.

'What… happened?'

His eyelids cracked open, and he saw Elena's worried expression. His face twitched from the feeling of his body gradually regenerating.

"Leon-boy…" Professor Oliver said softly, then shifted his gaze to Cassie.

Following his gaze, Leon took a look at his sister's condition. Surprisingly, he didn't have any strong reaction, nor did he show shock. Instead, a faint sense of sadness emanated from him.

'Didn't I want to ensure she remained alive? Isn't that why I've kept her with me? Even growing cold to build her heart… yet…'

He closed his eyes, then turned away from her.

"Ye Ming, were you able to bring everything back?"

The Chinese man furrowed his brows, but still answered. "We couldn't transport all the Kaiju, but we secured the whole body of the Godzilla. Including its crown."

Leon nodded subtly, his mind calculating.

'The scales and bones of that monster are exceptionally good materials. I'll surely be able to make something remarkable from them. The flesh can be distributed to the evolved. Since it can expand their essence reserves and replenish fatigue, it'll be a great boost.'

Then, his brows furrowed.

'That crown…'

He didn't know what to do about it, but it was better to leave it for later. He turned to Elena, his expression peculiar.

"Auntie, what new potion did you make?"

He found it absurd and almost unbelievable that she had created a new type of potion in just a few days.

The woman smiled proudly, then produced a potion with purple contents. Leon's eyes narrowed instantly. He was sure he hadn't seen this kind of potion in his past life.

"This is called a Booster. Unlike normal potions that heal wounds, this one boosts an evolved's healing capabilities greatly. Although it's really impressive, the materials are so scarce. Right now, I only have eight potions left."

Leon's eyes widened subtly, then he nodded. Inwardly though, he was quite surprised. This potion sounded like something tailored for him. With his originally insane regeneration speed, this potion made it incredibly faster. No wonder his burnt eye had been healed and back to pristine condition.

"I'm impressed."

He said, then got up from the bed. Most of his injuries had been healed, leaving faint scars that would eventually disappear. Then, he turned to Professor Oliver.

"Get me Miguel. I need you two for something."

The old man nodded solemnly, then left the building. He had a faint idea as to what Leon wanted.

Meanwhile, Leon stood beside Cassie's bed, his expression serene. The thought of turning her into an Undead Devourer crossed his mind, but he didn't want to. He knew how deep the effects of the change could affect a person's mentality. Take Sylvia for example, before her change, she was a reserved person. Now, however, she had become entirely unreserved, even barging into Leon's bedroom at any time of the day.

He himself was aware that he had changed too. However, he didn't want his little sister to lose her sweet girlish side. Therefore, he refrained from turning her. Instead, there was a more probable option.

"Um, boss…"

A mature voice entered his ears, causing him to turn to the new arrival. Miguel appeared fidgety, though he tried to compose himself.

"Miguel…" Leon said calmly, unnervingly so. "How much do you understand about your class?"

The man squinted, then shook his head. "I only started experimenting on it. I'm not too sure about what I can do, but I believe it's related to robotic engineering."

"Robotic engineering, huh…" Leon sighed. Then, with an unusual hint of weariness in his eyes, he said. "Miguel. I want you to study it deeply and create a prosthetic arm for Cassie."

Miguel's eyes widened in shock. It was only now that he noticed the armless girl laid on the bed. Judging from her pale expression, and the earlier arrival of a caravan, he deduced that the girl must have lost her arms in the battle.

His face turned grim, realizing how dreadful the apocalypse could be. Although he had seen humanity's dark side and cruelty, he hadn't seen the cruelty of monsters. Therefore, the blonde girl's condition made him solemn.

Raising his head, he gazed into Leon's lonely eyes and said, "I understand, Boss. I'll definitely do my best."

Leon nodded subtly, then spoke to Ye Ming. "He has full access to the Inventory now. Tell Ye Zemin to also accommodate his material requests."

The man nodded, then watched as Leon left the building, his figure emanating a sense of profoundness and desolation.

"This young man… actually shoulders much more than I thought."

...

Leon walked through the streets, watching as the people worked and spoke without worries. Beyond these towering walls, the ordinary people felt extremely safe. Unlike other shelters who suffered repeated zombie attacks, his Red Wings remained unruffled.

"Ah? When did I create something like this…?"

He mumbled to himself with a lost expression. Building a shelter hadn't even been his plan. It was Professor Oliver's plan. In Leon's eyes, recruiting talented people was only his priority.

Now, he had transformed into some kind of leader, or a inhuman creature playing King.

At that thought, he suddenly remembered something he saw before he lost consciousness. Frowning, he checked his system interface.

[Name: Leon White]

[Race: Undead Devourer]

[Status: Monarch]

[Title: Red Monarch]

[Pride Member(s): Sylvia Wilson]

[Dual Class: Smith-Weaver|Sharpshooter]

[Attributes: |Silver Hide||Target Lock||Weaving||Death Claws… (expand)]

[Level: Third-Level]

His brows furrowed instantly, surprised by the new additions.

'Status? Title? Pride? What's this bullcrap?'

Normally, he wouldn't have a strong reaction. However, his mind seemed to have blamed the Code 408D for his stepsister's injuries.

Nevertheless, he shrugged off his displeasure and scrutinized the information displayed.

It seemed, just like he guessed, there was supposed to be a hierarchy among all Undead Devourers. Although he had no clear understanding of what a Monarch meant, he knew it was definitely above something. At least, the Pride Members section proved that.

'Sylvia, huh?'

Narrowing his eyes, he sought to look for that silver-haired lady.
