Apocalypse: Inhuman Ascension

Chapter 75: Anna D'Grace

Anna approached the Saber Fangs evolved with slow, but suffocating steps. Her skeletal whip dragged across the street, creating a grating sound. Finally, she stopped five meters away from the group, then tilted her head.

"You guys were with her, right?"

Her voice was perfectly calm, though, it sent a chill down their spines.

Toji gulped, then stepped forward to answer her. "I didn't know she was like that. She looked perfectly human when she was with us. You have to believe me."

Anna's eyes shifted to him, like two deep pools of muddy water.

"Believe you? How can I do that?"

Toji's face hardened. As a fellow third-level evolved, he didn't fear her. However, he absolutely didn't want to have any conflict with her. If he dared to fight with her, her other teammates would immediately attack and maim his team.

But even then, it was obvious that this blonde girl wanted to vent her anger on something. Her eyes were filled with so much killing intent they could feel it coiled around them.

Thankfully, Daddy Ye arrived and placed a hand on her shoulder. When she looked back at him, he quietly shook his head, then gazed at the group coldly. For the first time in a while, Ye Ming had a chilling expression on his face.

"If you want to live, drop all your equipments, then scram!"

His voice startled them, and they involuntarily took several steps back. Toji frowned slightly, but couldn't say a word. He knew that this team had the ability to annihilate them swiftly. Gritting his teeth, he dropped his three-star chainsaw, and removed his two-star armor. Seeing that their leader had complied, the other evolved removed their equipments, placed them on the ground, then turned away. Toji cast one last indignant look at Anna, then left with his team.

Then, Daddy Ye turned to Austin's group.

"Yes?" His voice was low and deep, "What are you waiting for? Scram!"

Austin's lips twitched, but he said nothing. Even though he was a little older than Ye Ming, he still felt intimidated by that man.

Ezekiel frowned, then opened his mouth to speak. "Shouldn't we get a portion? We also partici—"

His words died in his throat when Anna turned to look at him. Seeing the frightening look in her eyes, he felt his heart tremble.

Austin smacked his son's head, then smiled helplessly. "Thank you guys for helping kill this Fourth-Level Monster. Now I can be relieved."

Saying that, he dragged Ezekiel's ear, then led his team back to their vehicles. Very quickly, they drove away from the scene too.

Daddy Ye sighed, then felt Anna's body tremble. He looked into her tearful eyes, then patted her back reassuringly.

'Let's hope she can survive…'

Although he hoped Cassie could survive, he wasn't so sure. And even if she did, she'd remain a cripple for life.

From the distance, he spotted Sylvia carrying Leon's figure towards them.

'Haa… a single battle has cost us so much.'

Shaking his head, he turned to Rebecca. The young lady understood his intentions, and turned to the Red Valkyries.

"Gather all the essence crystals. And we need a way to bring this corpse back to the city."

The women nodded, then immediately dispersed. The other kaiju monsters had been killed, so collecting loot was the next step.

As for why Daddy Ye didn't order the evolved women himself, it was because they only answered to four people… Leon, Sylvia, Rebecca, and Aisha. This was how they had been trained by Leon.

Still, it didn't really matter. Once they were done, they'd be returning to the city immediately.

...

At the Red Wings shelter, Bob was on duty with Johnson today. They both patrolled the walls, occasionally killing a few zombies that strayed around.

"Ah, damn it! I'm so bored." Bob complained, scratching his back. "And why the fuck is the sun so hot? Tch."

Johnson remained calm, his only remaining eye closed. Even under the intense heat of the sun, he only smiled.

"You shouldn't get worked up, Bobby."

He continued to enjoy the heat, waiting for Bob to reply him. However, what he got was silence. Furrowing his brows, he opened his eye and turned to him. The red-headed guy was staring into the distance with wide eyes, his mouth agape.

"What the hell?!"

He muttered, prompting Johnson to take a look too. In the distance, a large procession of trucks were moving towards the gates, all loaded with large chunks of flesh.

"Did they go to kill a kraken?"

Bob's question was left unanswered.

When the evolved team drove through the gates, everyone was stupefied. They hadn't expected the mysterious raid to yield this much. The ordinary people who stayed within the walls could only watch from the distance as the trucks drove towards the Glass Tower.

Alighting from the vehicle at the forefront, Daddy Ye and Old Pipe carried both Cassie and Leon to the Alchemy Research Building.

If there was someone who could help them, then it'd definitely be Elena Holmes. Although Leon would be able to heal eventually, they didn't want to risk it.

When Elena saw the condition of the two siblings, she was shocked beyond disbelief. Although she wanted to ask for the details of what had transpired, she didn't have time to.

She immediately placed the two teenagers on separate beds, then fumbled for new potions she had created.

Clenching her jaws, she picked a purple potion. "I haven't tested this one yet, but I believe it can help with this kind of injury."

She said, then administered the potion to Cassie. In just a few seconds, her shoulders began to grow flesh that would eventually cover the bones and create stumps.

Seeing that it was working, Elena was relieved, then administered the same potion to Leon. Under their astonished gazes, Leon's natural regeneration sped up, and flesh began to cover his exposed bones.

"Thank goodness. At least, they aren't going to die."

Professor Oliver patted his chest, leaning against a table nearby. Ye Ming was equally relieved, as his expression softened.

Abruptly, Leon's eyes snapped open.
