Chapter 19: Oddly circular

Alfie opened his eyes to a lush green forest. Looking around, he saw that he was in the middle of an odd clearing.

Feeling the lightness of his body, he felt the skinny frame of his new body. He must've been in his late teens if he had to guess.

Though his new appearance would be saved for later, preferable once he got a mirror of sorts. As of now, he was more focused on his surroundings.

The clearing was perfectly circular, indicating its unnatural existence. The sun had yet to rise above the horizon of the forest, making it sometime in the morning.

An archway was built in the direct middle of the clearing. It shimmered with a glow, enticing Alfie to touch it.

Alfie waited for a moment however, he had some things to attend to first.

[Name: Alfie.

Current world: Opha

Current universe: Lords (Tier 1)

Original Skill: Transmigration (Triggered upon death).

Attributes: [Living husk], [Collector], [Restless Soul], [Soul Entity].

Remark: Aim high.

Three redeemable items! Claim.]

Looking at his status screen other than the expected three items he had bought, he had actually gained another attribute.

Collector: You've captured a part of another soul and have fallen in love with the process. The essence of a mid-tier entity orbits around your soul. Perhaps you can make use of that fact?

Alfie called back to the moment Zeus left his soul space, though hazy he did feel a sense of excitement and wonder that lasted less than a second.

Considering the system said this world had a developed power system, he added a mental note to search for anything related to the soul plane.

With a simple tap on the blue screen, three brown pouches landed on the ground beneath his feet.

'Random item pouches', Alfie pulled on the thin string that held the first bag closed. A bright shimmering light came from the unfolding bag before revealing a small marble.

Picking it up, it felt just like a normal marble. Was he supposed to eat it? Or was it just an actual plain marble? Alfie didn't have a clue so he simply put it back into the bag.

Opening the second bag, a small ticket appeared. Holding onto it he saw the still shimmering archway in his territory glow ever brighter.

The archway and ticket seemed to be connected in a way, but for now, he moved on to the third and final bag.

From the small bag, a large wooden spear lunged out scraping Alfie's cheek. With the spill of blood into its body, the wooden spear vibrated in contentment of its bond.

Alfie picked up the wooden spear, and instead of the cool feeling one would normally experience it felt warm, inviting even.

Two out of three. While the marble could've had a hidden use, it wasn't as apparent as the other two. Until he could properly identify its use, he'd keep it on hand just in case.

With those things finally out of the way, he moved on to the most important thing at present.

The archway was shimmering in anticipation, inviting Alfie to come into contact with it. As a good guest, Alfie obliged and put a hand onto the archway.

[Welcome Lord! Would you like to summon your first subordinates?]

Unlike the monotone voice of Anti, this voice was a lot more chipper and extroverted.

"Could you give me a rundown on what this lord thing is?" Alfie asked.

[You don't know? How is it possible for someone of this age to not know..?]

"I've only heard it from rumors. I'm an orphan and I've been living as a hermit for as long as I can remember, so I'm uneducated if you will." Alfie lied.

[Hmm well I suppose I can tell you the basics. It's pretty much all in the name after all. You've been chosen by the new universe to be a lord. Simple right?]

"Anything else you can tell me?" Alfie asked.

[Do you really not know anything?? I got all excited but I actually got paired with such a dull Lord…]

Alfie raised his eyebrows and gave an annoyed look towards the archway, "I'm uninformed, not stupid."

[Fineeeee. I'll give you a quick run down okayyy.]

Ivory looked at the city he had once called home. It was lying in complete ruin due to the recent magnitude 9 earthquake it had just experienced.

Had he not been from the slums of the city, he most likely wouldn't have been able to come out of it alive.

He chuckled a little at the expense of the wealthy people near the center of the city. They had flaunted their wealth with high-rising towers despite the dire times and now they had gotten their due.

Feeling a tug on his brown rags, Ivory looked down to see his little sister with hands full of white flowers.

Ivory smiled as he accepted his sister's gesture. He knew that he had missed something. He took half of the flowers and placed them onto one of the two mounds in front of them.

With a final look, the two turned their back on the graves of their parents.

The two would aim to survive despite the grim reality they faced.

Unbeknownst to them, such phenomena were occurring all across the universe.

Though at the time they certainly wouldn't have cared. Only after their ascension would they learn of the full truth.

[But then the day of beginnings happened. People got transported here, became lords, gained basically superpowers by learning to harness spiritual energy, and the universe started to fix itself.]

[Oh and if your kingdom falls you lose all your powers. I think that wraps up everything with a neat little bow.]

"Thanks for the rundown…? Ugh," Alfie paused.

[Rina]

"Thanks, Rina." Alfie smiled.

[Alright, Alright are you gonna summon your first subordinates now??]

Ticket in hand Alfie smiled, "Lucky guess, how'd you know."
