An Extra's Survival In Super Gene

Chapter 3: This damn system!

By now, I had pieced together some of my situation. I had reincarnated into the world of Super Gene, specifically on Planet Roka.

"So... I'm dead before I even get the chance to evolve?" I muttered with a sad smile, glancing at the clothes I was wearing.

My outfit screamed poverty—torn sleeves that didn't even reach my elbows, a ragged pair of pants, and worn-out shoes. My once-handsome face was probably replaced with that of a beggar.

"Life sucks," I sighed softly.

"So... what now? Any advice, System?" I asked quietly, but nothing happened. The screen didn't appear.

"Oh, right... I forgot something so basic." I said quickly.

"Information. Change the pop-up command to 'System.'" I instructed.

[...]

"Must I repeat myself again?" I asked, staring at the floating screen that seemed visible only to me.

[Daily quest has been updated, do you want to see it?]

"This thing isn't listening to me, is it?" I thought. Still, I wasn't upset. In this situation, throwing a fit at the system would probably cost me to lose a few teeth.

"Well, whatever," I muttered, annoyed, as I clicked on the notification.

To anyone watching, I probably looked like a beggar who'd lost his mind, talking to myself and pointing at the air.

But it didn't bother me. I didn't care what anyone thought.

"It's not even my real body, so who cares?" I thought as my finger finally touched the screen. The system window expanded into a slightly larger one before my eyes.

Monthly Quest: Locked (It hasn't been a month since you arrived in this world).

Yearly Quest: Locked (Not happening anytime soon).

My right eye twitched slightly as I stared at the system, especially the daily quest.

"How nice of the conditions for it to be a daily quest." I said, forcing myself to keep a smile.

Even though I claimed not to care what others thought, yelling something like that in public was a bit much. Still, I needed to change my appearance—walking around looking like a beggar wasn't exactly easy.

I stood up from where I was sitting and glanced around. This spot was perfect for shouting... perfect for completing the daily quest, I meant.

Behind me was a group of beggars. To my right and left, people moved back and forth, busy with their own lives. In front of me was a main road, completely empty for now.

I took a deep breath, standing in the middle of the busy street. People moved around me, some casting curious glances, others too absorbed in their own lives to notice.

Gathering all my courage, I shouted at the top of my lungs, "I'M A DEMIGOD!"

The area fell silent for a moment. Heads turned toward me, some with confusion, others with disbelief. A few children giggled, pointing at the "crazy beggar." One man shook his head and muttered something about attention seekers, while an elderly woman whispered, "Poor soul, must've lost his mind."

A group of teenagers nearby burst into laughter, one of them mimicking me, "Look, it's the demigod of the streets!"

I stood there, trying not to let their reactions get to me. My face burned with embarrassment, but the quest was complete. I focused on the system, waiting for my reward to appear.

After standing there for almost a minute, I moved back to my original spot and sat down, lowering my head to hide my face as I stared at the ground.

Suddenly, the system window appeared in front of me, the same one that refused to show up while I stood there feeling humiliated.

[Achievement Unlocked: First Hand Embarrassment.]

[Achievement Features: None (lol)]

[Daily Quest Completed.]

[Do you want to claim the rewards right now?]

I stared at the mocking words on the screen, my embarrassment turning into mild irritation.

The word "rewards" was highlighted in a blue hue, likely signaling that I could claim them.

I stood up again, not to shout this time, but to find a quieter place with fewer people around. If a set of clothes suddenly appeared out of thin air while people were watching, I had no idea how I'd explain it.

After searching for about 15 minutes, I finally found a dark alley.

"Damn, I don't even know what to do now. How am I supposed to enter the first god sanctuary with no background?" I said, my face twisting into a sad smile.

Once I reached the middle of the alley, I tapped the blue word on the screen. A set of clothes began to materialize in front of me, just like in the movies.

Before they could fully form, I quickly placed both of my hands underneath them, trying to catch them before they fell and got dirty.

"Aish." I muttered as I caught the clothes, a wide grin spreading across my face.

The shoes and watch materialized on the floor, while the clothes hung in mid-air. Once again, I couldn't shake the feeling that this was all the system's doing.

I took off all my clothes, leaving only my boxers on.

"Now that I look at it, my body isn't as malnourished as a beggar's. What did the original owner of this body even eat?" I muttered, glancing at my belly, which showed the faint outline of a six-pack.

Quickly putting on my newly acquired outfit, I left the dark alley, looking for a mirror or anything that could reflect my face.

As I walked down the street, my eyes scanned the surroundings, hoping to find something reflective. Suddenly, I spotted a glass window on a nearby shop. I approached it and stared at my reflection.

The face that looked back at me was more than average. My black hair was messy, falling slightly over my forehead, and my red eyes stood out, glowing slightly in the light.

I couldn't help but study my features for a moment. The face was unfamiliar, but it felt like mine now. There was no denying it, this was the body I had to work with.
