American Comics: Multiverse of Madness

Chapter 529: 529. The Threat.

It was unclear how much time had passed.

The entire city of Kahndaq had been reduced to a pile of ruins.

The yellow sands rolled endlessly, dust billowed everywhere, and the sandstorm caused by the war covered the sky, casting a dark veil over the city that had already turned into a wasteland.

"Cough—spit!"

On the ground, Hawkman coughed up blood and spat it onto the sandy ground. Slowly, he propped himself up to stand, his face covered in blood, and his helmet nowhere to be seen.

Not far in front of him, Doctor Fate was pinned under Black Adam's foot, struggling desperately to push away Black Adam's leg. But Black Adam's immense strength left him with no ability to fight back.

Breathing heavily, Black Adam, though victorious over Hawkman and Doctor Fate, was not in a much better condition.

Even as powerful as he was, he had to admit one thing: these two 'wizards' were tougher than he had imagined. Because every time he fought, he went all out, which had caused his stamina to drop significantly.

"Even if you defeat us, you still can't escape the confines of this space," Doctor Fate said with difficulty.

From their previous encounters, he had realized that this person hadn't learned any magic or sorcery. All of his power came from the blessings of the Egyptian gods.

In other words, unlike Doctor Fate, who had received the blessing of the god Nabu and learned magic, Teth-Adam hadn't studied any other magical abilities. He was only acting within the power framework granted by the gods.

In this situation, Teth-Adam, who knew nothing about magic, had no way to break out of this space. He had no means of escaping.

Hearing Doctor Fate's words, Teth-Adam's eyes narrowed slightly.

He knew that what the wizard was saying was true. If he couldn't leave this place, then he was merely switching one seal for another, unable to truly return to his homeland.

After a moment of contemplation, Black Adam's eyes flashed with coldness.

"Yes, I indeed don't know how to leave here, but you do. So, I need you to break the seal and send me out of here."

"Ha, do you think that's possible? Why would I do that?" Doctor Fate snorted coldly.

"Because..."

Black Adam lifted his foot, and in an instant, he vanished from his position, reappearing in front of Hawkman. He grabbed Hawkman's neck.

Hawkman, who had barely managed to rise, couldn't react fast enough to Black Adam's movement. He only saw a blur before a choking sensation overtook him. His body was lifted by the tremendous force.

Gripping Hawkman's neck tightly, Black Adam slowly turned his head to look at Doctor Fate and continued.

"If you don't do this, I'll kill him in the most brutal way."

Seeing this, Doctor Fate struggled to rise, then voluntarily removed his helmet, revealing his aged face.

Doctor Fate's actions did not provoke any reaction from Black Adam. He coldly watched the elderly man and spoke.

"How about this deal, wizard?"

Hawkman desperately wanted to resist, but the choking sensation made it hard for him to gather his strength. He struggled to shift his gaze to Doctor Fate.

"Then... just kill me."

Clenching his teeth, Hawkman spoke slowly.

"It's fine. Dr. Kent,I am never afraid of death."

Hearing this, Doctor Fate's expression darkened. Before coming here, he had foreseen the general situation of this mission.

In that prophecy, the entire city of Kahndaq was engulfed in flames, and a terrifying force swept through the ancient city. The cries of the people filled the air.

Hawkman, Carter Hall, would also bravely sacrifice himself during this mission.

However, at this moment, the scene in front of him was vastly different from his prophecy. Though Hawkman was indeed on the verge of death, the overwhelming flames and the sinister energy that had terrified him didn't appear.

It was as if everything had changed after they were pulled into this alternate space.

But now was not the time to think about the truth of the prophecy. As Black Adam continued to tighten his grip, Hawkman could not hold on much longer.

With his teammate's life in danger, Doctor Fate staggered to his feet.

"Wait, don't kill him yet."

Frowning, Black Adam loosened his grip slightly. "Have you made up your mind?"

"No, I just wanted to say..." Doctor Fate looked away from Black Adam and turned to look at the ruins, his gaze both solemn and curious as he spoke.

"Since you're here, why not show yourself?"

Seeing Doctor Fate's motion, Black Adam was momentarily stunned. Then, he looked toward the direction where Doctor Fate was looking.

With his immense power, Black Adam wasn't afraid of any of the wizard's small movements, nor did he worry that the wizard might deceive him.

As Doctor Fate's words fell, a human silhouette slowly emerged from the empty space in the ruins, appearing before everyone's eyes.

"No wonder you're Doctor Fate, even in this situation, you have such sharp observational skills."

A strange voice echoed through the small space. As the voice sounded, the silhouette of a human figure slowly became clear.

Alex, one foot propped up on a large rock slab, sat on the collapsed half of a building, looking down from a high vantage point at the three extraordinary beings below.

Seeing this stranger dressed in black with an eye patch, the three people present, except for Hawkman, all showed a change in their expressions.

"Did you bring me here?" Teth-Adam asked coldly.

"Of course, it was me."

Alex didn't deny it, simply watching him calmly.

"Otherwise, what should I have done? Let you two go on fighting in the capital of Kahndaq? Look around you, look at this ruin. Do you think many ordinary people will survive the aftermath of your battle?"

Hearing Alex's preachy tone, none of the three responded.

Teth-Adam looked at his homeland, now reduced to a wasteland once more. It seemed like a bad memory resurfaced in his mind, and a sense of guilt began to rise within him. He then loosened his grip and released Hawkman.

Without Teth-Adam's hold, Hawkman collapsed weakly to the ground, gasping for fresh air.

Leaping down from the ruined building, Alex slowly walked up to Black Adam, sizing him up. Feeling the divine power on par with that of the wasteland universe's Billy, Alex nodded slightly.

"I thought you'd continue fighting for a bit longer, but I didn't expect such a quick resolution. Indeed, Shazam's power is not to be underestimated."

Suppressing the urge to devour the other's divine power, Alex turned to Doctor Fate and continued.

"Teth-Adam just emerged from a seal and is ignorant, but you two, as superheroes and long-time members of the Justice Society, shouldn't be so careless."

Hawkman covered his neck, sitting up from the ground.

"We're here to protect the world and—"

Before he could finish, an immense pressure suddenly descended upon him.

In that instant, he felt as though the gravity around him had multiplied by countless times. His entire body was slammed into the ground, unable to move even a finger.

"Don't interrupt while I'm speaking. No wonder the Justice Society's leader is now the Hourman. With your personality, how do you maintain relationships within the team?"

With a slight tap of his finger, Alex applied the pressure to Hawkman, clearly disappointed.

He genuinely felt a bit of sympathy for old Bruce Wayne. Despite having retired after achieving success, he still faced the invasion of General Zod and the ensuing war. After barely surviving that calamity, dealing with the aftermath had proven difficult.

On one hand, he had to deal with the open and covert battles within the government and Congress. On the other, he had to form a hero organization to protect Earth. He had no time to even focus on Gotham and had to spare time to train a successor.

And yet, none in the Justice Society had stepped up to take the lead. If they were given time to grow, Hawkman and Doctor Fate were not children anymore. Together, their ages totaled over a hundred years, yet they still acted so thoughtlessly.

Turning back to Doctor Fate, Kent Nelson, Alex continued.

"Can you control that helmet? If you can't, don't use it. Do you really think the god of order is on the side of humanity?"

"Who exactly are you?" Doctor Fate asked, not answering Alex's question.

Alex didn't respond. He simply grabbed his collar and opened his coat, revealing several bat-shaped throwing blades.

Upon seeing the familiar weapon, a flash of memory crossed Doctor Fate's mind—an image of a dark figure that teleported to the side of his bed under the cover of night.

He didn't know how the figure entered his house or what they intended to do, but he knew that if the person had meant to kill him, he wouldn't have had time to summon his helmet.

Exhaling deeply, Doctor Fate's perception of Batman was raised even higher. He had long suspected that Batman could use magic like him. Now, seeing this person, his suspicion was confirmed.

"So, you're with Batman."

"Sort of. Batman and I are old friends," Alex replied, half truthfully.

But Doctor Fate responded with confusion. "There's no record of your actions in the Justice Society's program. This mission should have only involved Hawkman and myself."

"Then you should be glad I'm standing here now. Otherwise, you two would have had to pay the price for your mistakes. I know you have many questions in your mind right now."

Alex paused for a moment, then glanced at Black Adam before continuing.

"There's a lot of hidden context in this matter. Now that you've fought, I'll take you both back to the real dimension, help you unravel your doubts. I hope you can behave yourselves after this.

Otherwise, I won't just lock you away in the realm beyond reality."
