Chapter 67: Throes
Charlotte and Claudia were tasked with the destruction of the magic eye, and therefore took leadership currently.
They decided that having the tyrant come to them, only for Charlotte to reposition herself so that the tyrant would be struck by her rapier was the best course of action.
I was not inclined to disagree.
The tyrant was spewing too much magic attacks for any frontal assualt to be feasible.
Remia and I as the two close combat fighters, were relegated to launching only long range aura slashes.
Annastasia and Aisha were given some breathing room as the tyrant was still rampaging.
So they were told to ingest some mana recovery potions.
As for Aura and Aldex, they were to help Claudia draw aggro towards herself and Charlotte.
Aldex's performance was astounding.
He was better than I had even planned.
His magic was fast and accurate.
I guess that comes with the territory, since his lineage, the Geary's are a mage house.
The Geary house ancestoy, John Geary, was a spatial mage with profound advancements into his attribute.
And clearly he had a descendant who inherited his spatial calculus.
It was likely worth it to learn from him.
Remia wasn't anything to scoff at either, although she wasn't a count's child like Aldex, she inherited some powerful sword techniques.
Her family was a knight family, in service to a Margrave.
This Margrave was a little different and served not only in political capacity, but also in military capacity.
His territory would serve as a place to march from, hence the name, in protection or invasion.
However he also held a high office for the federal army as well.
Her attacks were cutthroat and bloodthirsty.
Quite the stark contrast to her personality.
No sooner that the tyrant's tantrum finished, the spellcasters began their plan.
My bones had healed enough to join the fight, despite the lacking support.
The two healers tried to prevent me from continuing, but I couldn't leave Remia by herself.
I also wouldn't allow myself to fail to do my part.
In other words, I was being stubborn.
The tyrant began launching magic attacks before getting on fours and charging.
It seemed to have forsaken it's human like mobility, in favor of speed and destructiveness.
It was going to lack the dexterity of a human, but if this hit any of us, excluding Claudia, we would die in an instant.
Thankfully Anna hadn't said anything yet about being careful.
I hoped that meant we boded not horribly.
I hadn't expected to come out of this fight unscathed, but I did expect there to be no deaths.
Certainly the plan and people I had selected seemed to be working fine.
The 4 people in the corner of the arena floor shifted away as the tyrant ran headfirst into the colosseum walls.
Clearly, there was no room for changing direction, so the four regrouped at the center.
The new plan was to have the tyrant charge, and instead of Charlotte impaling the tyrant following the charge, she was going to be blnked up to the eye and stab it mid charge.
A risky plan, and a difficult one at that.
However, it wasn't impossible and I hadn't recieved any warnings, so we went ahead with the plan.
The tyrant once again was struck by magic and aura, aura and magic.
It seemed to be angrier now too, as it howled before it fell into a full four limbed sprint.
The thing was barreling towards Charlotte, almost as fast as it did with wings.
The other three already moved away.
Just as I began to think Claudia wouldn't reposition Charlotte, she did.
However the tyrant didn't get struck in the eye, or more specifically the magic eye.
The beast's charge stopped, as Charlotte's rapier dug into the intelligence eye of the monster.
Taking advantage of the stunned monster she lept off, and began to escape.
The monster howled louder than before.
It's screams hurt even Aisha and Anna, despite their distance.
The roof and walls shook as the sound echoed.
The monster was flailing it's limbs and sprouting magic attacks out like a fountain.
The walls and ceiling's luminescent stones began to dim and fall from the rock formations.
The colosseum turned pitch black.
No one dared to create a light or fire, fearing the immediate assault of the tyrant.
The only source of light was it's bloody eye.
I wasn't sure when this game switched genre from action-adventure to horror, but I would like out now please.
The monster's magic attacks had gone out, leaving us with no clues as to what it was doing except for one.
Sound.
We could hear it occasionally hear the swinging of it's arms thrashing.
Sometimes it was closer than others.
The six of us made our way to exits by feeling for the colosseum walls.
Or at least I hoped so.
The tyrant without it's intelligence eye was dumber than before it had even opened it.
It was able to sense our mana signatures, but didn't see it as threats yet.
So I added some dark magic to my eyes.
I looked at the eldritch monstrosity swinging it's arms.
They were massively long now.
The ends of the arms were large paw like appendages.
They dragged as the tyrant moved.
At one point I could hear the sounds of the arms swinging in front of me.
I began to move around the wall of the colosseum as quietly as I could.
Despite that, the tyrant begain swinging again.
This time, I not only heard the swing, but it was close enough to see.
Not exactly comforting to know the monster you're facing had no issues, and can hit you from anywhere inside the stadium.
I realized that while it could detect magic like fire or light, it couldn't sense the magic around my eyes, or inside my body.
The loss of the intelligence must've been a significant loss.
I needed to communicate with Aura to remove the last eye.
I launched a lightning spell.
The thunderous roar of the lightning stretched out as I launched more than a dozen out.
The arena lit up as the slower lightning filled the open space.
I took the time the lightning created to contact Aura.
"Let's use lightning magic to destroy this thing."
Unfortunately I never heard her answer as Anna interjected.
"Both of you be very careful."
Not a stellar warning.
Vague and worrisome.
On top of that, I couldn't see if Aura had agreed with my plan.
Thankfully, I didn't have to try another distraction, as she answered me in another way.
I saw purple lightning fill the arena.
I guess it was time for me to join her.
I began to launch my lightning out too.
Our lightning lit up the arena, showing off the horror of the tyrant.
It looked like a tree with two long arms with large inflated claw-hands at the end.
The monster's eyes looked around trying to find the source.
The light we saw was of no use to the tyrant as it had already lost it's first eye.
It began to swing it's arms in a circular motion, letting them swing fast around it's body sweeping the arena nearly in it's entirety.
It didn't stop us from casting, but it did hinder the amount of our cast.
We were still making our way to each other, when an arm slammed into the wall next to me and stopped.
I slid underneath it, hitting it with lightning causing the tyrant to scream while retracting it's arm.
"Lucas why would you do that?"
"It can still feel that you know?"
I grimaced at her.
"What?"
"It lost eyes, not it's inner ears."
The blood red eye beam from it's magic eye bore down on us from the other side of the arena.
A smile began to widen grotesquely on it's stretched face.
The lighting from the magic had reduced the horror of the monster, but the way it looked at us, was still absolutely terrifying.
I picked up Aura and flew up.
And I'm glad I did, as not moments later, the long arms of the tyrant slammed together annihilating the area we once stood on.
We continued our lightning as we descended.
Flying took too much mana from us.
I watched her, and her me.
We focused our lightning.
The tyrant began to move towards us.
Sluggish at first.
Then it picked up speed, as it's arms flailed around damaging the arena.
Together we reenacted a move of mine.
We jumped forward.
Using
The tyrant seemed ready despite it's lacking features.
It dodged my strike.
With an arm following me ready to strike me.
I threw Isla to Aura.
"Catch."
Aura swiftly caught the sword I had tossed.
I began to fall towards the ground with the arm following me.
We were nearly 60 feet in the air.
The fall wouldn't kill me.
Sure it would hurt, but the arm that was closing in would certainly end my life.
As it inched closer I waited for the final death throes of the tyrant.
The arm was close enough for me to reach out and stab it with my normal sword.
Then I heard the noise of the tyrant's last eye being pierced.
I let my arms guarding my body fall to my side, as I fell.
I was going to be fine.
***
*Aurelia's Pov*
Lucas threw me his ego sword.
He twisted his body as he missed the eye.
And then mouthed to me, or maybe he spoke, I couldn't hear over the lightning.
"Catch."
I caught the sword and landed on the head of the tyrant I stepped into the thrust and pierced the final eye.
I didn't even bother to confirm it's death, I needed to see Lucas.
I turned my head downwards.
His arms fell limp at his side, his eyes closed.
No.
No, no, no.
I jumped.
But it was too late.
He smashed into the ground, the hand landing right on top.
I fell fast into the ground leaving a crack.
I rushed over, using magic to launch the arm off of where his body was.
The hand was massive covering 3 times his size.
I rushed to his side.
'He is alive, mistress.'
I felt better with Isla talking to me.
'Thank you Isla.'
She was silent.
I picked up his body off the floor and moved it to a more flat surface.
Then a crack appeared in the arena's high ceiling.
"Everyone this test is over, please return to the center, for attendance and medical attention."
Personnel from the school poured out into the dungeon.
I radioed to the camp.
"The school is here."
Apparently I was late, as Rose told me that Charlotte had already said something.
i heard the gossips of the personnel.
"Holy shit, is that a tyrant?"
"I wonder who took it out."
"Apparently the 7th tier monster here is dead too, according to the mana readings."
"How many students do you think survived?"
"At least half of them have to have died right?"
Disgusting.
"Are you Lady Aurelia?"
"Yes."
"If you are in contact with your knight, you are requested to leave the dungeon immediately, give your statement, and return to the duchy at this time."
This man in black security clothing spoke to me.
I picked Lucas back up and walked to the exit portal.
"Don't worry, you'll have a nice bed soon Luke."
I whispered softly to Luke.
I nuzzled my head into his stomach a little.
I never noticed how frail he was sometimes.
'Mommy, are we leaving?'
Alea was watching us I guess.
'Have you been here the entire time Alea?'
'No, Daddy asked me to rush over to console you. He said he got sleepy.'
What?
'His words not mine Mommy, please don't be angry.'
'How could I ever be angry with you Alea, you're too cute.'
Alea reciprocated feelings of love to me.
I nuzzled my head against hers as she sat on his chest.
"Who are you?"
A personnel stamped his spear into the ground.
Now was not the time for snark.
"Aurelia von Svarmet along with my knight and his summon."
"Very well, please be careful as you leave, the portal is one you will need to ascend into but walk out of, watch for disorientation."
I heeded his words and entered the door safely.
Outside there were medical tents and many security waiting.
"We need your statement, if you do not need medical treatment at this time."
The officer was already aware of who I was.
"This is not the official statement, but simply a summary as we need a grasp of what happened down there in the last three days."
I told them as honestly as I could.
"You're saying your knight created a camp, saved all of the students, killed a doppelganger, the 7th tier monster: Ninmurta, the 6th tier monster: Tyrant, and recovered more people?"
"Yes that summarizes my summary well."
"Very well then, please head to the gates, as the Duchy awaits your prescence."
I walked through the large field operation to the gates.
"Aurelia von Svarmet."
I identified.
The portal home immediately opened.
My mother and father watched me carry the limp Lucas into the manor.
"Are you two okay?"
"Yes, mom."
I felt tears stream down my eyes.
I was tired too.
