Chapter 66: Quality of Existence
As my sword barely managed to cut his magic eye, he threw me off.
The monster's blood dripped from it's eye.
It turned to face me, ignoring the magic and aura it was being pelted with.
It didn't care it stared at me, before opening it's 4th eye.
The mouth of the tyrant opened giving a deep bass sound.
It was really disturbing.
The 6 of us stopped attacking as the damage we were doing was insignificant without the eyes being removed.
It's wings began to move back and forth before it smiled at me.
It made a sound, a combination of clicks and low tones.
Maybe 3 or four of them.
Was it calling for reinforcements?
Suddenly it lunged out towards me again, claws outstretched trying to grab me.
Aura and Claudia wasted no time in resuming their attacks.
The tyrant was not happy being pelted but was more focused on me.
I dodged it's hands as I dodged between it's legs.
I swiped my blade across it's legs, causing it to slow down.
The cuts were shallow.
Which made sense, because I was a 4 star swordsman.
My aura was by no means weak, but I was nowhere near a Tyrant.
It's black scale-stone like skin began to move over the wounds I had inflicted.
I was still underneath the thing's feet at this point.
I launched multiple spells and swung multiple times to give Charlotte, Remia, or the spellcasters time to remove another eye.
Aura managed to hit an eye, although I didn't see which one.
Claudia also followed up by hitting the eyes as well.
I couldn't know if they hit the same eye or different eyes altogether, but it was working.
I plunged my sword deep into the leg of the tyrant.
The wings of the tyrant pushed it up as I pulled my sword out to avoid being taken for a joyride.
I realized it wanted the center of the arena again.
"Move out from the center guys."
I, who was near the outskirts of the arena, with the tyrant, was safe, but Aura, Claudia, and Aldex, who had journeyed closer to the center to still hit the monster were in danger.
The casters backed up as the Tyrant landed in the center once again.
It stared at Claudia making a few sounds, before doing the same for Aura.
Then it turned to me, making sounds as well.
More low tones and clicks.
I saw the 4th eye and 1st eye had some minor damage.
Less than the 2nd but more than the 3rd eye, which still had yet to take damage.
I moved towards the center once again.
A few more hits to it's body, or one more decent hit to it's eyes, and we would reach roughly a third of it's health.
After which the rate at which he returns to the center of this area will skyrocket.
As it stared at me, it made a few more noises, before turning towards Aura.
Aura used
I took this oppurtunity to move towards the tyrant, careful not to let it deal any damage to me with it's magic.
Claudia was it's next order of attack.
It sped over to her before stopping.
Unlike previous attacks the tyrant stopped near her, and sprayed it's magic all over the surrounding area.
Claudia unaware of it's changing tactics, was caught in the storm of fireballs being spewed off by the 2nd eye.
I hit it with some weak spells, drawing it's attention from a injured Claudia, it turned to me, making the noises again.
The same ones.
"It's identifying us."
I said out loud.
I backed up and began to shoot 1 star magic at the tyrant.
Little more than afterthoughts to the beast, but it would annoy it.
"Aisha, heal Claudia already."
I began to anger the Tyrant even more as I started adding aura slashes to the mix.
My mana wasn't draining all too fast, but it could stand to be a problem if I continued fo a while.
It started to stare me down again, seemingly ready to charge.
That's when it started to stomp, causing some of the luminescent stone in the ceiling to darken and fall.
The arena also started to crack as the weight of the beast was no longer being controlled.
It started it's rampage, and began moving towards me, smile on it's face.
The others still were regaining their balance with the exception of Charlotte who was easily moving from surface to surface avoiding falling stones and abrasive flooring.
I began to move towards the Tyrant as well.
It started it's charge towards me.
I was unable to try to block it's attack, so instead I tried something different.
As it's claws came forwards, I jumped in between them, causing the Tyrant to pause it's assault for a mere milisecond as I moved in to strike the 4th eye once more.
As predicted, the move missed due to the eye, but the tyrant didn't come out unscathed.
Due to my sword being wrapped in aura, the part that grazed his face, did some serious damage.
Albeit not enough to send him into his second phase.
In the end, he finished his attack queue and returned to the middle.
I signaled to the others I wasn't going to wait for the attacks to reach us and instead attack it first drawing much aggro onto me.
As the tyrant began to look for the first person to attack, I lunged out and swung at it.
The tyrant quickly retreated and faced me.
It then jumped into the air.
I moved out of the way as it tried to crush me with it's feet.
I dove out of the area, avoiding any uncracked ground as to not accidentally get a spike through my back.
All the ground that was still flat and level, was now a sea of jagged rock and craters.
I manuevered around them jumping into the sky.
I angled my sword as if to attack him, only for my attack to be a feint for the monster.
The real attack was launched by Aldex, who by and large was an great shot so far.
His attack was seen through by the tyrant's 4th eye, and dodged, but it put the tyrant right into the line of my attack.
My first attack hid a second attack and Aldex's attack was hidden by my first one as well, however they were staggered in such a way, that it overloaded the 4th eye and prevented it from alerting the tyrant from stopping me.
I slammed my sword into the 4th eye, gouging it out.
The tyrant was never going to get a leg up on us anymore.
Now with arguably the two most dangerous eyes on the tyrant gone, the 2nd phase began.
I jumped off and ran away, as it's mouth began to howl.
The howl does mental magic damage, and the sound magic also causes physical damage, and therefore proximity to the beast prior to the 2nd phase starting matters.
Aside from me everyone else was a far enough distance away to take minimal damage.
Aisha and Annastasia also took nearly no damage, due to their distance from the monster.
'Isla, can you store me in the mental world momentarily?'
'Yes, Master.'
I entered my mental realm while awake.
This would both allow me to start repairs, but also keep from adding injuries.
'Master the screaming has stopped, please leave as I take care of these injuries.'
I nodded as I let the sword push me back out.
The tyrant faced me as the howl ended.
It jumped into the air, flapping it's wings at the top and diving down onto me.
I ducked out of the way of the attack, as the claws on the feet of the tyrant demolished the floor I was just standing on.
I watched as the tyrant took flight once more to postion itself in the middle of the arena.
We needed to cut off it's wings now.
I pulled Claudia into a formation with me.
Together we drew a lot of attention from Charlotte and Remia.
We picked up Aldex next, who was also doing much of the heavy lifting.
In terms of drawing aggro alone, he was the best of us all.
He was able to properly attack annoying spots with proper timed, and proper tier spells.
Yet he was never the attacker.
His skill in baiting was top notch.
The Tyrant now sufficiently angered by the three of us, flared it's wings.
As it pushed it's feet into the ground, Charlotte's sword came slashing down on it's wings.
Similarly, Remia's sword cut up into the wing cleaving the entire wing in one go.
Aura made sure to grab the two of them as they had used some of their most powerful moves.
"Annastasia, I need recovery buffs please."
I didn't bother to even look at her, believing in her to do it."
No later than my order was issued, Charlotte and Remia both recieved recovery.
The tyrant angry over losing two eyes and now it's wings, began to throw it's arms, and magic around while stomping.
"Baby mode."
A mode players could take advantage of.
Some monsters start to go berserk, others baby, others have special states.
A baby state monster, just means free damage, and I wasn't going to let that go to waste.
"Annastasia, Aisha, I need your strongest damage buffs."
"Okay."
"Yes, big brother."
'Master the internal damage in your mind is repaired.'
'Good, because we are about to experience it again.'
I dashed to the tyrant using all the weapon buffs to stab it's intelligence eye.
However as I neared it's face, the monster's smile became more apparrent.
It was too unnerving.
I realized that it was smiling for a reason too, I had been lured into it's trap.
I saw it's arm swinging towards my body in midair.
It moved it's claws to make a repeat of the damage I sustained running from it last time.
"Claudia."
I yelled.
She immediately hit me with a gravity spell instantly shooting me down, plunging me into the 1st eye.
Unfortunately that didn't stop the claws from touching me even slightly.
I was sent flying into the stands near Aisha and Anna.
"Lucas, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I'm -cough- fine."
I sputtered some blood out of my throat.
"Do you still have mana after casting those buffs?"
"We have the recovery potions too Lucas."
"Great."
They fed the potion to me as my bones and muscles mended.
I saw the tyrant begin to freak out in the center of the arena.
It's magic and intelligence eye still awaited death.
Despite this, the tyrant went into it's third and final phase.
It started to lash out on the arena, screaming and launching magic in every direction.
Thankfully we were far enough away that any shot that got near us, lost most of it's blas power.
The stones on the roof and walls, began to shake and and fall off.
The colosseum became dimly lit, like a room with blinds and only one window.
The others on the arena floor started towards the edges of the arena.
The third stage of the tyrant, the not-berserk tyrant.
Like I mentioned all monsters have a special trait when pushed into a corner.
This tyrant however didn't seem to have one.
Maybe it was due to the influence of the intelligence eye.
Finally the screaming stopped and I could finally hear something else.
"Annastasia, Aisha, heal the others if you still have any mana."
"We're going to make our final push, and hopefully have the school rescue us soon."
I knew the school was trying to muster 8 8th tier veterans to ensure our safety.
But I wasn't entirely sure when they would arrive.
"But until then we need to remove this threat so we can avoid spending anymore rations fighting off the waves of monsters, this thing keeps throwing at us."
We decided to destroy the intelligence eye last using the comm orbs.
The magic eye would go first.
We had a plan, that Claudia and Charlotte would take care of the magic eye, and Aura and myself will remove the intelligence one.
Now all we had to do was put it into action.
